An absolutely brilliant experience!! £12 per person and worth every penny! It's exhilarating, but also relaxing in parts and allows you to view Cardiff Bay/Atlantic Wharf/Penarth from a different and stunning angle. I took my 9 year old cousin on it and she had the time of her life singing along to 'Danger zone' whilst riding the waves! I live in Cardiff and will be strongly recommending this to anyone that visits, even if it's just to go back on it myself!

Amazing ride, excellent value for money and staff are very helpful, welcoming and informative. We went for an hour long Coast ride and saw 2 islands, cruised at high speed and learnt about the history of the islands. We didn't set foot on the island but that is an available option and you can stay there as well. Crew helped us into and out of our life jackets before and after the trip. If you want to record or take pictures you can do so as speeds are reasonable but as with anything, you do so at your own risk! A go pro or the like will be more suitable and sit at the front if recording is your thing. The sea breeze can make it a little chilly so a jumper or jacket is recommended if you get cold

Decided to book the Flat Holm trip after always looking at the island from Cardiff and wondering what it was like on there. We were met at Mermaid Quay by Rosie and Sean who were very welcoming, friendly and made you feel at ease. They helped with our life jackets, explained all the safety procedures with a bit of humour thrown in and were great throughout. The island was very interesting, the wardens/volunteers welcomed us from the boat explained what to expect, where everything was etc and we were left to either explore ourselves or take the guided tour. Back in the bay after going through the barrage locks, Sean gave us a quick demo of the boats capabilities which was great fun for everyone, himself and Rosie even got us to sing happy birthday for a lady whos birthday it was on board. Great day out, great trip to Flat Holm and would definitely do it again.

What a wonderful day out! As tempting as it was to roll back to sleep when the alarm went off at 05:30 to be at the causeway for 06:15, I'm so glad I didn't! The sunrise was beautiful, the team were warm and funny, and made everybody feel at ease with one another. There were nice little touches such as the playing of the Jurassic Park theme tune as we approached Steep Holm and all of its majestic beautiful, and generally being there to answer any questions about the island that people had. I was worried that twelve hours on the island was going to drag, but it was a surprisingly beautiful opportunity to slow down and enjoy the numerous trails taking in the history and natural beauty of Steep Holm. If I lived closer, I could certainly see myself becoming a volunteer there! Thank you for a fabulous day!

We were extremely lucky to have had an amazing sunny day at steep holm. The speed boat takes you comfortably from Penarth marina to Steep holm and the travel itself is quite nice both in the morning and in the evening. The only thing that I did not appreciated had been the long waiting time to return to Cardiff. There were only 2 speed boats and before taking us back to Cardiff the speed boats needed to do two round trips to Weston super mare to bring back those who departed from there. I understand that due to the nice weather there were many people, but waiting on the beach from 7pm until 9.20pm was tiring. Especially when the tide was riding quite fast. I think it could have been better organised, but might have been an exception due to nice weather and big demand. Overall great time at steep holm, however for the boat trip £45 seems a bit excessive.

Booked on a whim as we were walking past, The little ones idea. Great experience even with a 4 year old, the guys were great and looked after everyone. Life aids were provided and the speedboat was exhilarating.

A post Lockdown escape with my family to Cardiff Bay, was a lovely treat. This fast and furious speed boat ride had the teens screaming with joy, while me & my sister screamed with terror! Well worth the experience. The teens will definitely do it again! I’ll watch next time :)

Omg!!! Fantastic!!! Best £12 I spent, we were staying in cardiff for few days, and was looking for something to do with my two daughters 13yrs old and 15yrs old, and came across them on the bay, they were so welcoming we booked and were on the boat enjoying our thrilling, exciting ride, fantastic!!! It was definitely our most remembered and enjoyable thing we did on our short break, and most definitely want to book again next time we're coming to cardiff, and would highly recommend it to everyone, thank you so much 👌Shirley xxx

A fantastic day boat trip out to Steep Holm island, the crew were very professional and took everyone's safety seriously. I'm looking forward to going to Flat Holm island with them , an exhilarating boat ride and day on the island.

In off season there is no booking required. Just go the bay and you will find out one eventually. Look for a guy in the picture. His boat is just 6£ for adults and half price for kids.

Our visit to Flat Holm yesterday was just perfect from start to finish - helped by absolutely amazing weather. Sean and his colleague from Bay Island Voyages were professional and friendly throughout so that we felt very safe and had a really fun trip. Thank you - we will be booking again.

Had an amazing coastal trip for my daughters 11th birthday with 11 of her friends. All 12 kids smiling and loving the ride and the informative talks from our Captain Ed. Safe, fun and great value for money!! Will definitely use again.

Really good fun! Lifted my spirits! Thanks to Matt the Helmsman for a lovely trip and taking the time to chat a little! Great safety briefing! Highly recommend this company for some laughter and excitement on the waters of Cardiff Bay 🙂

Fantastic trip! Couldn't have asked for anything more. Boat ride over was super fun, Flatholm Island was beautiful, calm and so peaceful. Loved the smell of leeks and was wonderful to see all the nesting gulls. Capped off a fabulous day with a pint at the Gull and Leek. We're already planning our next visit and have decided to make this an annual trip. Everyone at Bay Island Voyages was GREAT.

Always good fun and very good customer service. It was the second time I've been on a spin around the Bay with my family. My daughter has special needs and found it great that not only did they let us on first but the skipper of the boat came over before we took off to make sure that she was ok and able to handle the trip. He said he'd stop the boat the second we asked him to by raising our hand if there were any issues. She ended up loving it! Highly recommended fun

Took the Steep Holm excursion from Weston-s-Mare and had a delightful day. We arrived at the quayside at 7:15am as instructed ready for the 7:30am boats (2) which arrived, but had to wait a few minutes until the tide had risen sufficiently for them to dock. Got on the second boat (they would return to pick up the remaining passengers) and the 15min blast across to Steep Holm was great as the sea was totally calm. Landing on the beach was pretty straightforward, though some agility is required, the crew and island volunteers were very helpful. Had to stay on the island for 12hrs as dictated by the tides but in splendid sunshine this was no hardship and the time didn't drag (much). The return trip was also faultless, more or less a repeat of earlier. In short, thoroughly recommend the island and the boat.

On the return trip to weston super mare we had to wait a few moments for the tide to be high enough to enable us to dock safely. During that time the skipper and his assistant played some really nice music on the boat, we cruised around slowly as the sun was setting over the ocean. A very nice little touch to end the trip and made it all that more memorable. Thanks skipper!

My husband and I went on the 15 minute bay voyage yesterday, having never been on a speed boat before. Bay Island provides life jackets in the event of an emergency and give a safety briefing before setting off, so we felt we were in safe hands. The boat is fitted with padded benches, which you sit on as if riding a horse, and there are bars in front of each seat to hold on to. The driver also makes sure the passengers are ok during the journey. The trip was exhilarating and I finished the ride with my hair looking as if I’d been dragged through a hedge backwards. We did get off the boat with smiles on our faces, as promised, and I would happily recommend.

Good experience spoiled slightly by thr man Seated behind who constantly unraveled his bionic arm directly over my head to get a wider camera shot of him and his kid.

A great service from booking through collection from Western Super Mare, the trip to Steepholm and the return journey later. The crew managed to be both entertaining and professional is every way. I would happily use again.

Booked their trip from WSM to Steep Holm. Everything about the trip went very smoothly from start to finish. We thoroughly enjoyed our day on Steep Holm and would definitely consider taking other excursions with Bay Island Voyages based on our experience on this trip.
