Do not go to Cartagena , we spent 2 months there so we know it inside out as it is not so big and it was a terrible experience. We stayed in Castillo Grande which is the best area and the place literally stinks because the sewers sometimes overflow as they have serious problems with them , its dirty, there are only few decent pavements and the cars park on them so its problematic even to walk, when it rains the streets are like rivers as they have no gutters and the rain overfills the sewers, in the old town sellers pester you as soon as you get off the taxi, the beach is dirty and you can see dog and even human excrements apart from beer bottles, used limes, cups etc. , people are not particularly friendly, if you take a tour to the islands you may risk your life. You better read the other negative comments you can easily find over the Internet and trust them, there are hundreds of negative comments that surely people do not make up. If you are very keen to go to Cartagena don't spend more than three days there and avoid traveling by boat to the islands. You may be surprised how my comments compare to the other comments in this page and perhaps wonder why mine is so negative but at that point all you have to do is to go there and see it for yourself.......

A very beautiful city, you must have a good time to get to know it very well, it has many places to see that are very beautiful, the experience I had was quite good so I cannot give negative points, Cartagena the tourist area is very nice , their typical dishes are extremely good. That is if you have to go with good money to enjoy 😱

Cartagena is beautiful, you really have a good vacation, the bad thing is the excessive prices, which is almost everything, so you should know where to buy and always ask the prices,

I loved that city! The walled city and its sunsets are beautiful... The Basurto market and its delicious gastronomy, its people, the heat and breeze of the sea...

2 days in Cartagena de Indias: colours, music, varied humanity. A country, Colombia, which is trying to get back on its feet, especially Cartagena which offers a lot on a cultural level. If you leave aside the traffic of taxis and scooters, the guided tour of the ancient city is an activity not to be missed.

Also known as the pearl of the Caribbean, Cartagena de Indias is not just a desirable travel destination for its Instagrammable beaches. This ancient city that mixes architectural styles ranging from colonial to deco to contemporary skyscrapers is a true cultural gem whose hidden treasures offer surprises every day for the visitor with a mind and heart open to grasp them. The quality of the cuisine and the cultural offering, the possibility of walking on the walls to get to know the entire ancient city, the movie-like nightlife... you can't help but be enchanted.
