Being one of the most beautiful experience I’ve ever had the opportunity of live, Miguel is the greatest show man ever, best guide ever, detail explanation, it has so much history on it, all tourists should go there to learn everything about Cartagena and his pirates 🏴‍☠️ of the Caribbean. Do not doubt it, go for a wonderful history lesson!!!

Was kind of disappointed by this museum. Not a lot of authentic artifacts or anything like that. A few replica books and amateur small scale model ships. It wasn't expensive so I'm not surprised, but not worth the stop in my opinion. There's nothing in English, so if you don't speak Spanish then it's definitely not worth going.

Very interesting area with a lot of history. Ancient battlements surroung the old part of the city and the museum has some interesting historical information.

Excellent museum for history buffs and children. Lots of interactive displays upstairs. Only downside is there are very few translations from the Spanish. But the Google translation camera app works very well, so come prepared! Recommended, especially if you have children!

It is a simple museum that should take about 15 min to see. But there are public bathrooms there and inside a local group plays a musical drum selection that is very upbeat and enthusiastic. Just outside is a small cafe that has limited food, plus beer, alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. They have table service and they take some credit cards, but no one speaks English. We had a fresh squeezed lemonade and a beer, our I'll was $8.

Probably the best museum in whole of Cartagena!! Absolutely loved it ! The ticketing staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. This place is loaded with old and modern things used by the Colombian Navy… including, things used by Spanish sailors.

Closed for private event with no notice posted online. I arrived at the Naval museum after reviewing the available open hours in the website. However, the museum was closed for a private event (wedding - see photos outside the museum an hour after I attempted to enter). This information was NOT posted on the museum website, or anywhere else I could find. These days most people use the internet to make plans. While I’m sure the wedding was a nice event for those who attended, a more professional museum would have notified its other customers.

Probably the best thing we did in Cartagena. You can enter replicas of a submarine, helicopter and 2 different coast guard boats. Fabulous time, highly recommend for families with children.

I was walking around El Centro and decided to wander into the museum. It was a fantastic experience, with extremely informative pieces. My favorite however were the simulators on the second floor. I’ve seen many of the subs and ships docked here in Cartagena, so it was cool being able to walk around them

Cool place for a visit in Cartagena. The more modern exhibits are fairly interactive and fun. Kids who are really into machines and boats will have a blast.

Cute museum in the old city! Some fun and moderately interactive displays. Not a lot of English text, but Google translate came to the rescue so we could learn a little more about the history aspect of the Colombian navy. Fun to spend an hour or so... and a good place to get a break from the sun.

Interessantes Schifffahrtsmuseum.

My favorite museum in Cartagena! It’s large, it has plenty of history facts and things to look at (even boats and submarine simulators). Tickets are cheap and can be bought at the entry, plus it has a little souvenir shop.

Nothing in English and you won't know until after you pay the ticket to go in. Would be helpful to at least have the ticket prices by the entry and basic info in English, as well as labels so visitors can do self guided tours. Almost didn't go in because the front desk people were too busy chatting among themselves.

Very cool museum with great props and artifacts. As a typical North American, my Spanish is abysmal, but for very cheap you can hire a museum tour guide on-site. Mine was really friendly and fun to tour with.

We had next to no expectations when we entered the museum and got positively surprised. The museum covers 500 years of naval history and has a lot of cool and informative displays and exhibits. We spent three hours there and felt well entertained and learned new things. Well worth a visit.

Interesting museum with a lot of interesting exhibits with the chance to go on part of a submarine and boat. Although most of the information is in Spanish it is still good to see even if you don't understand. Only $21,000COP to enter.

We loved our visit to this cute little museum! Miguel is the museum’s English-speaking guide and made our visit so educational and so fun. He told the history of Cartagena and its battles like an epic story. He also told it in a way that was very clear and easy to follow. Highly recommend visiting the museum and getting the guide.

  • 1/5 Wade M. 1 year ago on Google
I don't understand the great reviews on here. It felt like the museum hadn't been updated in decades. There were no real historical artefacts (only models). All of the text was in Spanish. Considering what you can get for that entry fee elsewhere, it was expensive.

  • 5/5 Dragan L. 1 year ago on Google
Really well laid out museum. For non Spanish speakers, hiring a guide is a must and well worth the cost and visit.

  • 5/5 Peter L. 1 year ago on Google
This review is specifically for attending a private event at the museum. There is a hall on the 2nd floor that is exceptional for hosting any kind of business cocktail hour / dinner. The space is covered and very well air conditioned.

For us it’s a must. We love learning about the history of the places we visit and this Museum is a jewel : Cartagena is a Maritime city with amazing historical battles against pirates, the English navy etc. The Museum exhibit is very well installed with Models of the events very well explained. They also offer Guided tours. And it’s just across the street from Baluarte in the Muralla area, so it’s perfect to visit it before the sunset. The only thing I would say I didn’t like is the intense red color in the floor and windows .. would’ve gone with more natural brick colors or stones..great place to learn about the History of Colombia and pirates

  • 5/5 Mateo M. 1 year ago on Google
This was a nice surprise in my trip. The museum has a detailed description of the naval battles linked to Cartagena and Colombian navy. Really interesting history to learn about. It also has a couple of sort of simulators (a sub and a chopper) that are great for kids. All and all a great experience and good activity to shelter from the sun.

  • 4/5 alex s. 11 months ago on Google
Great little museum with some fun interactive exhibits (including a submarine and a ships bridge). Selfishly, I wish they had more content in English, but as a group you could ask for an English speaking tour guide for a fair 30K cop (roughly £5/$6) which seems reasonable if you don't want to test out the limits of your highschool Spanish. Given the heat it was also a nice break during the middle of the day, although a number of open doors in the downstairs exhibit meant the AC had little effect down there.

  • 5/5 Olga A. 10 months ago on Google
You can go inside a helicopter, boat, submarine, etc. Very nice scale models of ships and forts.

It's definitely worth a visit to learn of Colombias Naval history. Large mockups of a ships bridge, a helicopter, and a small submarine simulator, along with dozens of displays illustrating Colombias fight against Spain, made for a very interesting learning experience.

  • 5/5 David S. 1 year ago on Google
The history of the Colombian navy plus Caribbean culture and trade are covered in the Museo Naval del Caribe in Cartagena, Colombia. The museum building is a former Jesuit college. The museum contains a replica of the Galeón San José, sunk by a British ship off the city in 1708. Ownership of the treasure aboard the San José has been the subject of decades of litigation.

  • 2/5 Emily R. 4 months ago on Google
We are not sure why this museum has such high reviews. All the signs are in spainish apart from a few sporadic English translations. We were told this before purchasing the tickets and continued as we often visit museums in spainish and use translation apps to translate any text. The ground floor room was full of a lot of information. There were huge amounts of text and the room seemed to have little order. The layout of the text made it impossible to translate using an app. We could not decipher and information. The first floor is really focused on the navy. There are detailed profiles on specific ships and naval officers. Too much detail, in our opinion. Some of the displays were also not working. We did enjoy the life size models/replica helicopters, submarine, and boat on the first floor. These were interactive, allowing you to flick switches, spin steering wheels and press buttons. I would recommend visiting the castle and watching the introductory video there. This provided a clear and simple understanding of the naval history.

Museo Naval Del Caribe is a cool museum in a historical building that offers a lot of cool exhibits. I like learning about the history and culture here. The pirate exhibits were my favorite part as you can get educated on the different historical pirates. I enjoyed this museum and the memorable experience it offered.

  • 5/5 Ricardo B. 4 years ago on Google
At first I thought it wouldn't be so interesting, but I felt quite amused there. The first floor shows a lot about the history of the city and country regarding the navy; on the second floor you'll find more modern stuff and can go inside simulators made of real ships - including a submarine. And there was a local music and dance performance while I was there, which was a pleasant surprise.

  • 2/5 Fernando F. 4 years ago on Google
Very limited museum, low budget exhibits. Not worth the visit unless you are a naval history fanatic and even so you might me disappointed by the lacklustre models and presentation. Skip unless you have ran out of things to do within the walled city.

There are more props in the museum than actual artifacts. That said (and even though it's a little kitschy) it does a great job of telling the story of the city's history. Definitely book a guided tour if you come here. Right now there isn't any A/c inside so the first floor is a little brutal until you reach the inside courtyard that has a breeze flowing through and a shop that sells cold drinks.

(Translated by Google) It is a very complete museum, well cared for and with a valuable cultural content in which you can refresh part of the history of the country. I recommend doing the tour with a guide, there are those from SENA, which are free but deserve a contribution due to their great knowledge and they also offer other types of guides with a charge at the entrance. Additionally, if you like paranormal stories, the museum hides secrets of this type. Unfortunately it is not very crowded, unfortunately the promotion of tourist sites does not include this place, which is quite beneficial for all kinds of people, especially school-age children. More or less you should have two hours for the tour that go by very quickly with the guide's explanations.
