I've gone to play more than once before giving a one star to see if this was a one time occurrence. The place is nicely set up but i can't shake the fact of how bad the DJ is here. How does he play Lion King theme on the dance floor and think this is good??? There was another night that he mixed titanic then changed it to Jay-Z without any blend. If you ask anyone that has gone here they will tell you the music is trash.

I went last night too expensive for the service and drinks, the only good part is the drag show, it’s dirty, smell awful, and the service is terrible. Bar tenders are rude they give me hot beer I ask for a change and they said that they won’t do it. That everybody is drink it like that also very disrespectful to said it. Why cover is only in cash?? Is so annoying do 2 lines to get in. Now the main thing is the music. OMG is that Dj even gay? Is that a gay club? Is that a Dj? So wrong, you have to be to drunk to have fun in there I won’t recommend this place

I went on Friday 9-17-21. I found the $20 cover charge to be quite excessive. I was worried I had come on a night DJ Seizure was playing the music because I had heard how bad his track selections are. Luckily, we came on a night DJ Remedy was in control. One track flowed seamlessly into the next. I shook his hand at the end of the evening to let him know how impressed I was. Things were very lively on the dance floor. However, I have never seen a wetter floor. I had to minimize my movements when dancing for fear of slipping. The drag show was energetic and the audience seemed to really get into the acts. I didn't appreciate being charged $16 for a Bulleit Bourbon double and then am charged at the other bar $19 for the same drink (I just deducted a few bucks off the tip I gave the second bartender). Both sides were packed so this isn't a place to go if you're worried about COVID. It seems to be popular with gays as well as straights. I understand its popularity.

One of my highlights of Nashville! So much fun to go to, watch, drink dance and play! I recommend going here to see one of the shows and enjoying the dual dance floors they have. The Drag show was great with great music, dance and beautiful stage performances. The Drinks are excellent and poured strong. I will definitely have to come back for another good time.

Play is advertised as a Gay Dance Club, but the clientele is 80% straight women, maybe 5 % gay men. I went twice in May 2022 and literally one night I was the only gay man out of 30 people on the Dance floor. It has a busy drag show and the dance floor is nice, it is not a gay bar through, and if I had approached most of the men there (including some of the employees and management) I would have been told to leave them alone 'cause they are straight.

There was a cash cover, and unfortunately I didn’t have a debit card or cash. I talked with the front desk guy to find a solution, as I was in town by myself, but he wouldn’t allow me to even charge a cocktail at a surplus or anything. Not a great experience. Maybe fun when you get in, but couldn’t say.

Be prepared for $20 entrance fee and bar is kinda pricey. I recommend being drunk to enjoy the dance floor since the DJs are never good. The service from bartenders could be better a few seemed like they hated their job so I’m sure it’s hectic on busy nights. But all in all a staple in Nash queer scene and recommend for drag race fans they hold some cool events with some queens.

I go every Wednesday, Thursday and most the time on Saturdays. The dance floor is big enough for the people they have on the days I go. They have enough space for the space they have for the tables and chairs. You just have to get there early to get a seat. But that is almost and bar you go to.treatsatio has enough room with a bar. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. The staff are very nice and friendly. I know everytime I go outside they always open the door for me. Grey the one that works by the door. He is amazing. Very friendly and respectful. He treats you like you are part of the team there. The bartenders are amazing. They know how to make a drink. Once they get to know you, you never tell them what type of drink you want, they know what you want and how you want it. The drag show are outstanding. It takes a lot of courage to do what they do. I really want to thank everyone for all the hard work y'all do to make it the best place to attended in Nashville. Thank you..

It's basically the only dance bar & gay bar worth going to in Nashville. Canvas is lame, Tribe is usually empty, and Trax is just tragic. I hardly ever go. I've been in Nashville 2 years and been maybe 3 times. It's good for dancing, but there's a 20 dollar cover at least on any given night. And, I'm sorry, but nowhere in Nashville is worth a $20 cover. You can get the exact same and better in top tier cities around the country for free. I'm not into drag, but they have that. The music they play is usually old... like from the 90s and early 2000's. Sometimes it's a vibe... but after a while it's like... can we join the modern era please? The drinks could be stronger. It's packed on Fridays. Getting a bartender to look at you is a special ring of hell. There are like 3 spaces inside and a large outdoor back patio which I like. Idk... I'm from San Francisco, so my experience with gay bars is like, top quality. This is... just okay. I wouldn't go to it if I lived in NYC or SF or LA. But... for Nashville, where else will you go? Fun place to dance and I haven't had any real negative experiences, but overall it's just okay.

I was better off staying at the straight bars with $0 cover charge and getting a better experience. The $15 cover charge is a quite excessive for a place under renovation. Extremely crowded so if you’re sensitive to social distancing this is not a place I would recommend. However the drag show gets a 5/5! Amazing performers definitely the highlight of the club. P.S. if you have a bubble butt beware for a$$ grabbers all around.

Went with two other girlfriends last night for her 21st birthday, first time for me personally going to a club and honestly it was a lot of fun. Felt very safe and both the staff and other club goers were friendly and kind! The shows they had at the first stage were entertaining and the line up was great! Bartenders were on it and the drinks were delicious. Dance floor was loads of fun as well, spent hours at this place without even realizing it, a really good way to end a night of celebration!

What more is there to say? This is the flagship gay bar/ dance club in Nashville. They have a lovely cast of drag performers and a huge dance floor. You can reserve tables and booths for special events to get a front row seat at a drag show and probably get to participate by getting asked some questions by the MC. Look for special events that you can participate in by dressing up to avoid paying a cover charge.

I had a great time celebrating my friend’s 40th Birthday! The shows were great. I can honestly say that I enjoyed myself. All the Queen were beautiful❤️❤️❤️❤️. Be careful of parking lot scrams across the street from the club. I can’t wait to come back!

SO. MUCH. FUN! I really enjoyed my first drag show and then hopping over to the dance club. The DJs were incredible and played banger after banger! Definitely worth the cover charge.

I come to play A LOT with my girlfriend. The one thing I will say is that recently, the ATMs at the front have started to charge double the amount they used to for withdrawals. It used to be $3 but now it looks like it’s $6. The drinks from Ariel are amazing (she’s the best bartender IMO). The drag bar is great and we always have a lot of fun.

This is delayed from a visit on 8/11/23. We started at Tribe next door for dinner/drinks before the show. After that experience we were nervous when we found out that this place was the same owners. I'll say, COMPLETELY different experience. My bartender, Rylee B, was super friendly and helpful all night with drinks and constantly breaking bills for us. We didn't eat and I don't think they have food on the Play side which is the only reason that is marked lower. I wish it was posted on the website that cards could not be used to pay the cover fee; I would've brought more cash to avoid ATM fees. Aside from that, we had a blast. We reserved a table up front and stayed for the first two shows of the night. My friend was visiting from Austin and after a horrible 1st experience at Tribe, he had a blast here at Play. Definitely work on your Tribe staff, but the staff over at Play was amazing, the performers were great, and we will definitely be back!

Can't think of a better 18+ club in Tennessee. If you're looking for a very safe and fun environment to bring someone out for their first time at a nightclub this is it. They pride themselves on having a fun, toxic/creep free scene and it shows. Very accepting. They have a cover charge but considering it's 18+ and you get a free performance show out of it you can't complain. My family friend Tonya also runs free salsa nights here every Wednesday and are always a good time. Sending my well wishes to all staff at PLAY. Thank you for not changing throughout the years and maintaining the same great experience.

I wanted to love this place so bad but I get more disappointed the more I go. Their is no space in this place! You have to slip and slide past everyone. I have been to two different drag shows now and I am too short to see each time. I want to love it so bad but it definitely needs to be expanded. When it comes time to dance their is nothing but 18 year old kids dancing and taking off their clothes. The music is very difficult to dance to and it’s just not fun. I wish I liked this place but it’s just not it.

The best queens I have seen! The crowd was wonderful, the bartenders were great, and the queens were FAB! Great place to bring a party, friends, and partners! Highly recommend!

The drag show was fun. Nicole was a great performer. The mixed drinks seemed watered down. I didn't see a single shot that wasn't mixed with a chaser. I bought a round and it came out the same.

Play Dance Bar is the best gay bar in town, however all are welcome. Great shows and caring staff. No harassment is allowed and good times are to be had. They even have coat check available on Friday and Saturday nights.

This is a must attend place!!! I will be returning quite often and bringing more people with me! The staff was amazing and the performers were out of this world, I cannot wait to go back!!

I was in charge of planning a bachelorette party of 16 girls (which is not an easy feat!) and we came here for a drag show one night based off of a recommendation from one of my close family friends. We had an absolute blast!! The queens were so talented and we were blown away by how entertaining the show was. I would definitely like to come back the next time I’m in Nashville, and I’d recommend Play to anyone!

Such a fun atmosphere with the queens. One of the best places in Nashville in my opinion. Good drinks and entertainment.

The drag show was great! This is a fun place with high energy. There were people of all ages, and a good mix of men and women. The only thing that could have made it better is if there had been more seating for the drag show.

We are here from out of town and came on a Thursday night, so weren't expecting much. This place has a great vibe, fun audience, terrific performers, and reasonably priced drinks. We had a blast and are coming back this weekend before we leave!

PLAY is such an inviting place to everyone! I left my credit card there one night, and Ryan made sure it was back in my hands safely! Talk about above and beyond. i most definitely recommend this place.

Best drag show I’ve been to in a while! One even did a K.Flay song and I SCREAMED!! Bartenders are super attentive! Play attracts the kind of people who are kind to people, and every interaction I had with other patrons were positive and lovely! Can’t wait to pay them another visit next time we’re in Nashville!
