Positives first, the venue does have two menus - 'meaty' and vegan, which is great. The price point is incredibly affordable, and considered a cheap eat. Menu is also vast, offering good selection. Unfortunately not a fabulous experience at Baba Hawker for me however, I hate to say 😓 This is my second time at Baba Hawker, but first time eating. The first visit was my partner and I awkwardly standing in the middle of the restaurant at peak dinner time Sunday. No patrons. No staff. Dim lighting. 10 minutes waiting. We were a bit confused and wondered whether the place was closed. We decided to leave. We wanted to give the place another shot the following week, once again on a Sunday. A couple of small tables were full. We stood in the doorway awkwardly again for about 5 minutes before a staffer finally emerged from the kitchen. We needed to yell out to them to confirm that we could take a seat. 5 minutes later menus arrived. It took entree 20 minutes (1 x satay skewers) to arrive and the mains a total of 45 minutes (2 nasi lemak's) . The venue was relatively empty at this point which left me puzzled. The food was disappointing and not overly authentic. The gripe was that the meat (chicken and beef) was terribly overcooked and dry. The egg was so incredibly over-boiled that it tasted like dusty powder. The curry was thin and watery. The butter chicken had a superficial mild flavour however the beef rendang was unpleasant and the flavour was completely un-enjoyable. I really wanted to enjoy this place given the inflated close to 5 star rating but felt there was more emphasis on their selection of board games than the quality of the food. Sorry.

Delicious food and a comfortable atmosphere make for an excellent culinary experience. The bare brick walls and casual scene create an invitation for authentic, tasty homemade meals, which come in an abundance without hurting the hip pocket. The biggest con about this place is the extensive menu we were unable to try given we were a mere two humans with only two stomachs. We will be back. This is a must try for anyone. Very vegan friendly.

Delicious fresh food ! Also the current menu online is not up to date, The new menu has lots of items. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options to choose from! Outdoor area out the back is very beautiful, cozy & green, nice atmosphere. Friendly efficient service & lots of games to choose from. Also purchased a side of the Carolina reaper hot sauce.. definitely recommend!

First ever order: I don't know how it has taken me so long to try this place. Wasted, wasted years spent eating anything other than this wonderful nasi lemak, and the beef rendang. Even as takeaway, the quality is absolutely brilliant. Soft, moist, slow-cooked meats, fragrant coconut and pandan rice, duck curry puff... Just perfect. Can't wait to sit in so I can also try the cocktail menu.

What a great little find we stumbled upon. Really good fresh authentic meals, subtle flavours or punchy, spicy meals, depending on your preference. And such good value! We also liked the drinks selection, with lots of local breweries, gin makers etc on the list.

Great place for kids! Kept them entertained. Food’s ok but could be spicier!

Delicious food! I had the goat nasi lemak, and the meat was beautiful. Very hospitable staff. :)

Fabulous home style food, flavours of the like I’ve never had before! Felt extremely authentic and the service was exceptional. Will absolutely be returning to this gem.
