We have been to the Senate Hotel many times, but never so disappointed!! Nothing is as it was: no friendly greeting or farewell at reception, breakfast is just a shadow of previous times. No choice of rolls, no more fried eggs, toppings not chilled and all for the same price. When asked, we found out that the hotel got new management a year ago. We are looking for a new hotel for our next stay.

This place is not even worth one star. The two jokers behind the reception gave the worst service we have ever witnessed in any hotel. Their only interest was smoking and drinking coffee. The room was disgusting and filthy. Service was non-existant in this dump. Read the negative reviews first, they tell you the truth about this abysmal hotel.

Location was perfect for the Christmas markets and it was reasonably priced. Very dated but that's not important. The carpet in the rooms needs at worst a clean or at best replacing. The staff were hit and miss, some were lovely and some were very rude. This is definitely a hotel for loud, drunk tourists and not particularly family friendly.

My hotel room was booked for me by someone else. Thank God it was only for one night, because the carpet in particular was full of stains and should definitely be replaced. There were stains on the mirror in the bathroom, the toilet bowl was really dirty and a lamp flickered the whole time. You could feel the springs on the mattress on the bed and despite the windows being closed I kept hearing noises at night. The location is definitely positive, just a few hundred meters from Cologne Cathedral!

The hotel room would need to be completely renovated. The carpet can no longer be cleaned using conventional means. The breakfast takes some getting used to, I don't know when the last time I should eat such concrete eggs. The staff ignores guests' questions about coffee regarding guests' requests. The colleague at reception was busy with himself. 200 meters to the cathedral are also not enough to recommend this house.

The most important thing first: the location is uniquely good for exploring the old town of Cologne. In addition, the room prices are quite reasonable. Sure, the hotel is already getting old. Nevertheless, it has a certain flair and, like some previous reviewers, we couldn't complain about the lack of cleanliness. What we all noticed was the great friendliness of the ladies at reception. And our not exactly small dog was also welcome. We can't say anything about breakfast because we had breakfast outside. Why only three stars? It just has a few “quirks”. Rooms facing the street are not exactly quiet. If you arrive by car, you can hardly avoid the parking garage. But €10 for 24 hours is a good price. It's unusual that you need three keys to get into your room. Nevertheless, we would book the hotel again. But you should hurry. As we have learned, the hotel will be completely renovated next year. Planned duration: approx. 2 years. Then the prices will certainly not remain at the favorable rate.

Last minute choice with this hotel. The website uses the best of filters obviously. For €63 the best feature was the bed. It was comfortable but really this is a 2star rating hotel at best as the pictures show. Also the fridge/mini bar is unavailable during 'cold' months even though 24degrees in Köln today so when thirsty I bought a litre bottle of Cola Zero that cost €6 at reception. I can't imagine the electrics are up to date either as you can see from the picture. Will not stay here again.

Great location - but almost derelict condition, poor breakfast, shockingly bad service. The location is not worth the price.

Old school place with a feel of 80-90s luxury. Overall well kept over the years, but the rooms could be cleaner. Breakfast offered both cold and warm (eggs, bacon, sausages, etc)

A small hotel with good location. Just couple of minutes from cologne cathedral and all shopping streets! Biggest minus was that the rooms does not have air conditioning (At least single room). Now with 35 degrees room was really hot. Single room is also quite spacious and condition was OK.

Rented apartment for 1 night from Senats Hotel. Reception was friendly. Toilet didn't work, lights didn't work at all. For €820 for 1 night (1st Saturday of the Christmas holidays) we expected more than a shabby apartment with holes in the ceiling in 'retro style'. Breakfast was even sadder. Only ate products that were pre-packed, the rest did not look particularly well taken care of.

The rooms are very old and very tiny. The price for one night is 200 euro and i think it is so overpriced. We came there after a very long drive and we paid for a room with a kingsize bed. They told us that they only have a room with 2 separate beds but for 30 euro extra we can take a room with a kingsize bed.. we accept it but its a little bit odd.

The room was very big and well decorated, the staff was super friendly and helpful with everything! The only thing is that the room didn't had A/C so we struggled a lot with the noise outside because we needed the window open. Was a good experience though

I guess this is what you get for the money in the location like this in straight centre, didn't check the prices elsewhere. Very affordable for the location, stayed at the 2nd floor looking to the parking house (away from the strret), wi-fi was good, room and bed linen clean, breakfast enough choice of cold meals, less on the warm food side, but I do not demand it very much (eggs are just fine for me), reception no problem, warm welcome. What could be improved is the furniture and flooring, which are all outdated and worn (would need investment). Slept well, would return here, credit cards available.

For the first night we got a “better” room for €5 more (cash payment separately from the actual booking). Room had neither curtains nor bedside tables. There was no hot water the next morning either. For the second night we have another better room. There was a bit of a drain smell in the room. Location of the hotel is great.

Location very good - close to the cathedral, train station and city center as well as Heumarkt and Alter Markt with various restaurants, pubs and bars. The hotel is getting old and has a huge renovation backlog. The furnishings in the rooms are also a bit older. The room doors only serve as privacy protection and allow any sound to penetrate unhindered. Otherwise, the room is a pleasant size - except for the bathroom - and meets the standards of cleanliness that you should expect in any hotel. Breakfast is good. The staff is nice, although only partially competent. Result: Stay was okay, but next time I would look for an alternative in a similar location.

Had to cancel my booking after 30 minutes due to an sudden change in plans. The hotel rejected my immediate request to not charge me! They referred to their conditions and said I should have read them!?!. I can’t recommend a place that would accept to charge like that, when no service has been provided, nor any loss had to be compensated! It’s simply a win-lose transaction, courtesy of the Hotel. I won’t do business with people exemplifying such behaviour, and therefore I can’t recommend others to do so either!

Clean room and close to the cathedral, ideal for a stay during the Christmas market.

It was a very good stay. Just one night in a single-bed room. In the middle of downtown Cologne, within walking distance (about 5 minutes) of the Dom and the Central Station. The room was clean, good looking and good enough for the money. Staff was okay and breakfast was good. I would come back again.

Very happy with our stay at the Senats Hotel in Cologne. The location is excellent; in the city centre, and only a small walk away from the Dom and the train station. Doors are open 24/7. The room looked well taken care of and was clean. Beds were comfortable. We slept with the window open on the street-side of the hotel, but noise was hardly a problem. Upon arrival we received an invitation to the hotel bar for two glasses of bubbly. Breakfast was fresh and complete. Nothing amazing, but definitely decent and according to expectations. The croissants were quite yummy! One hour of internet access is included free of charge. Further use requires a fee, but is easy to set up. As others have mentioned, you do need keys for everything. Personally, I didn't view this as particularly problematic, however. Over all, we were very content :) Service at reception deserves a special mention - we were more than happy with the help we received.

Great location, decent sized room. The staff was responsive and professional. It is a little dated, stained rugs, and a tiny TV, but overall a great deal.

a bit old-fashioned. The location is great though. Got an upgrade because they had no double beds left.

Me and my boyfriend only stayed at the Senats for a night, and it was an unpleasant experience, not to say a disaster. Prior to our arrival we called the reception to inquiry about the low emission zone of the city since the hotel is situated therein. The receptionist had barely any command of English or French and could not provide us with the information. At our arrival, the room we had booked (superior with a view) was unavailable and we were given "an upgrade" (the business suite). In the room, the furniture was old and decrepit (broken mirror, mal-functioning hair dryer and lamps, stains on the armchair/carpet). The biggest problem was the smell emanating from the bathroom which was simply disgusting, but considering that there was an "Airwick" aerosol in the wall, I doubt the personnel was unaware of the problem. I told the receptionist about it, who acted surprised and greeted us with a "sorry", clearly not the reaction you expect in a 3 stars hotel that self-describes as offering “stylish comfort”. I do not recommend this place.

Location was great for this hotel which was the saving grace. Kettle was dirty and they didn’t have any extra to exchange. They didn’t have enough extra pillows after 3-4 rooms had asked for it. The fan was not working and didn’t have another one to replace. I waited in the room for 20mins only to realise they didn’t have a kettle and fan for replacement; called up the reception to be told that he will bring it up when he’s free or I can come and pick up myself (which is not a big issue, but after I’ve waited for 20mins which he could have called up to the room to tell me). The replacement kettle was a vacuum flask which he said it was an automatic kettle.

Yes, not a single star. We arrived and the hotel was simply closed. Moreover, we paid for our accommodation in advance. And on the doors there is a sign - go to another hotel. Naturally the level is lower and they don’t know what happened to the Senats. In general, this is pure fraud and this is after 20 years of normal work.

🫤 My husband and I went for some coffee and cake. The waiter put 2 small cups of beer on the table without us asking for it. I told him I didn't want beer. "He said in Germany you drink beer". I said I really don't want beer but he continued to insist and left it so I thought he was giving it to us i...
