This day, this museum, this place, everything touched me. Just two generations ago, my grandparents' generation were shooting at each other. One of my grandfathers didn't come back from the war. As a German, I am grateful that women and men from other countries gave their lives to liberate Europe and ultimately Germany. So that we all, including my children and I, can grow up in a democracy. This museum commemorates the people who risked their lives and lost them often enough. The implementation of this difficult task of honoring these people without glorifying the war has been uniquely achieved in this museum. I visited a few D-Day museums in Normandy, and I liked this one the most because of its sensitive and careful nature. And, although I delved into this topic as a hobby historian, I was still able to learn a lot of new things, also because I was never introduced to the Canadian perspective on things. Many thanks to this great concept and the people who stand behind it and work for it. At the end of the tour, both my children and I were left with heavy hearts because of the historical responsibility that our grandparents' generation had burdened us with their crimes and mistakes. A visit to Juno Beach, which seems peaceful and idyllic today, cheered the soul afterwards back up. We then talked a lot in the family about politics, war, and what people are capable of, and that was the best thing of all. Many thanks to this institution for triggering this input.

A must for anyone visiting Juno beach to learn about D-Day and to appreciate the sacrifice of the Canadian soldiers there. This is a small museum with some interesting exhibits. Your visit begins with a short immersive video of landing on the beach on D-Day (not graphic, suitable for children) before the entrance to the exhibits. The first room is mainly information about Canada, but the main exhibit contains radio broadcasts and information on WWII planes and much more. Your visit ends with a longer film on the war (also suitable for children). The final room of the museum before the gift shop is mostly anecdotes for Canadians, citizens and immigrants about what it is like to be Canadian. As others have mentioned, the museum can be a bit dry. There’s a lot of information presented within a short time. And at least 50% of it is about Canada, rather than the war, Juno Beach, and/or Canadian soldiers - which I found a bit strange given the location. But also, maybe it’s just that I am Canadian, so the information wasn’t new to me. Overall: Worth the visit.

A different take on D-Day compared to other museums in the area. The focus is on the impacts of the conflict on Canada and the Canadian Troops involved. Lots of interesting information including two film presentations, but quite text oriented displays. Lovely, friendly Canadian Staff!

My second visit. Little has changed since 2019. It's still an excellent museum that focuses on how the Canadians came to be part of D-Day and what their experiences were at home and in Normandy.

A smaller museum. Dedicated mostly to the Canadian troops. Unfortunately, the museum almost only contains pictures and newspaper clippings. Therefore, I don't think the price of admission is justified. Personally, as a non-Canadian/French person, I wouldn't recommend it.

I recommend a guided tour because the guides are very, very great and impart a lot of knowledge. They are the same age as the soldiers at the time and also come from Canada. The bunkers can only be visited as part of a guided tour.

Honestly such a great museum for anyone interested in D-day history, particularly the Canadian version. The museum really delves deep and provides detailed information about the Canadian role in the war. There is also a temporary exhibit about Dieppe which is well worth visiting. Highly recommended for all and there is free parking.

Very good presentation of the Canadian vision of the Second World War: origin of Canada's economic recession with the wheat crisis and that of 1929 until the landings. The film at the end of the visit is very poignant. We come out with tears in our eyes. Thank you for this memory exercise. Never again.

Mixed feelings about the center. Good to see that there is also a Canadian center in Normandia but the exhibition and films at the center were quite pointless to me. But it could be just me. Knowing what I know now, I would skip the center and just go for the bunker tour which was very good. Also do not forget the Canadian cemetary just a few km from here.

Moving, informative and a definite must for anyone interested in D-Day. The young Canadian Guides were fabulous (and so was the proper Canadian maple syrup from the shop!) The only thing that would have improved it would have been a coffee shop rather than a vending machine.

It was moving to see the presence of the Canadian story told in Normandy. I learned a great deal about Canada’s past. I’m surprised how new this establishment was, only since 2003. I’m thankful for the veterans that pushed through making this place possible. A humbling experience. I recommend checking out the guided tour offered by the Canadian youth, who will take you through two German bunkers. These are not open the public otherwise. Also a great place for kids.

This is a must visit if coming to Normandy to learn more about D-Day. Deep dive into the landings on Juno, which were the second bloodiest of the landings, but also a wider look at Canadian society and Canadian war effort in WW2, which was fascinating. Worthwhile doing the Juno Bunker Tour too if you have the extra 45mins to go into some renovated bunkers which aren’t accessible to the public. Also the grounds and area nearby is littered with other cool bunkers & memorials so a great place to wander around

The experience was enlightening. But the Canadian cemetery was very emotional. Our guide knew the basics, but perhaps was too Canadian in presentation 😕. Story telling more than facts give one a feeling and experience. This was lacking.

Friendly staff, nice museum which tells the complete liberation story and not only D-day. It also contains more information about the Canadian history that we did not learn before. Very nice!

Wanderful museum. My kid is totally not in history but there is an interactive game in the museum for kids and that game made him read and look for clues and think and view through exposition. Super experience with kids, of course I didn't see everything I wanted because I was entertaining together with kid, but museum is awesome. A little bit lack of expositions such like Canadian uniforms, awards, medals, etc. Advice - be ready to spend not less than 1.5 h.

A great way to learn about the background of the war, the battle of Normandie and what it had to do with the Canadians. It was quite emotional because it sucked me into the emotions and situations the soldiers must have been in during that time.

Wonderful museum, it is well curated, interesting and a great place to learn about the D-Day from the Canadian perspective. The guides were all super helpful and kind. Do not miss the outside tour of the bunkers, it's definitely worth it and they offer it in English or French.

The staff is friendly and entrance was rapid, in spite of quite a number of people. The museum itself is good from an info perspective. At the same time, it is a bit dry. Both movies (shown at start and end) were great! Walking the surroundings of the museum was quite interesting as well

A really peaceful place. Very respectful. Easy and quick access to the beach. The bunkers look really interesting, and would have been good to have toured if we'd had more time. You can still head down to 'peek in' without the tour, and what struck us (literally!) Was how low the ceilings were!!! We are both average- height for a woman and a teenaged girl, and both hit our heads going in and going out!! The memorial plinths are really nice, and some beautiful inscriptions have been made. We also loved the inuksuk to the inuits who fought. An incredible gesture, and eye-opening as I'd not even considered inuits having signed up!! Far more to have seen, but what we did see was breathtaking.

We took bus 3 (it will be renamed to 101) from Caen - took about 40 min! Juno beach was amazing, as a Canadian, I was thrilled to be welcomed by Canadians at the Juno Beach Centre who also have us a tour! There's a 45 min tour where you can visit 2 German bunkers, and learn about the WW2 history. There's also an informative museum with a movie that runs every 30 min to learn about what went on here during D-Day!

  • 5/5 Piotr K. 1 year ago on Google
Probably the best museum out of all D-day beache centres. A lot of information provided in interactive way very enjoyable for adults and kids, plus the interactive game for families. Two great movies (at the beginning and at the end) are really heartbreaking. Very friendly staff and small souvenir shop.

It focuses on a lot more about Canada than just the Juno Beach landing as part of D Day. Not sure it's the right place for all that other stuff about Canada. Good experience for the guides who come over from Canada for 7 month assignments.

As a Canadian, I got a great overview of Canada's action before and during the war. The museum does provide a good overview of the war in general, albeit with a Canadian lens. The displays were modern and the films quite moving.

Caveat: don't let anything I say here be taken as a reason not to go to honor the sacrifices of our soldiers/sailors/airmen. I have some personal gripes about the Centre itself, not the beach or the history of it. I feel bad about this, but the truth is I found the Centre itself a letdown. They get 3 stars for effort, but the place is every stereotype of a "Canadian Experience" or "interpretive centre" that I've suffered through for years. If you're not Canadian, you may still find the place dull and trying too hard, especially to move merch. The intro movie that is supposed to put you in the "mindset " of a Canadian soldier on D-Day was incoherent in both official languages, as well as too artistic or whatever. The run-up scene in Saving Private Ryan is the standard for that, as our guys were on the same types of landing craft. I understand that they can't show that, but it's a good template for most soldiers who landed that day. Fix that, at least.

A very informative and moving museum about life in Canada and what led up to the tragic sacrifice made by so many young Canadians on Juno Beach so far from their loved ones. The four staff members were great to chat to, so thank you to them for their welcome. The little shop is a great extra with specialities and souvenirs. You can pop in at any time if you haven't the time to go around the museum itself or have already done so before. I will definitely come again because you can easily add an other hour to the 1 and 1/2 hrs recommended for the visit.

I'd put this as a place worth a visit. The two US beaches seem to get all the attention, but the other American beach (Canadians are from the north American continent after all) is also interesting. They've also got a well preserved bunker

  • 3/5 John H. 4 years ago on Google
Another one of the beaches which all happened on D Day. Again this place brings everything home to you the beach that is. What these guys must have gone through on that eventful day must have been horrific. However this memorial is not as well kept as the others, they seemed to have let this place go, which is unfortunate. A massive shame really as the town just seem to be cashing in now compared to the others we visited. The town itself we didn't like and the smell from the estuary is very bad, put it this way you wouldn't eat a meal outside. Needless to say we didn't and consequently we didn't stay here very long. You car park is near the museum and it's all free. The museum is fine nothing to shout about but if you are doing all the D Day landings like we did I'm afraid you have to go here. Hold your breath and try and enjoy, you have been warned.

For anyone who enjoys learning about history (the good and the bad), the D-day sites are a must-see. I went to all five of the landing beaches, but being Canadian, I spent much more time here than I did at the others. The museum here does a good job of highlighting Canada's part in the landings, and is staffed by Canadians. They offer guided tours of two of the German bunkers (which you can only get into as part of the tour). When I arrived, I immediately started wandering around to explore, which caused me to miss the last guided tour of the day in English. I did the French one, and was amazed that I understood a bit of it since I don't speak French very well, but kudos to the tour guide who took a couple of minutes to translate for me. I did overhear the English-speaking tour as I was passing by while exploring, and they gave a lot of interesting information about the changing landscape, why the bunker is positioned where it is, etc.

  • 5/5 Mattes J. 4 years ago on Google
It was very impressive to visit, we really enjoyed the guided tour through the bunkers and on the beach. Our guide, Patrick, did a great job at explaining how and why the bunkers were built, what challenges the Canadian soldiers faced and how the soldiers on both sides must have felt. The tour was absolutely worth the little raise of the ticket price. The museum was informative, interesting and emotional being close to the soldier's experience, especially with the film at the end.

Given the alternatives this museum is only recommended if you are Canadian or especially interested in Canada. Given that, the permanent exhibition in the museum is good. Reminded me that when Mackenzie King visited Hitler in 1937, he was completely taken in. Skip the bunker tour as there are better ways and locations to see remnants of the Atlantic Wall (including the Longues-sur-Mer battery not far away).
