Decided to visit this restaurant after hearing great things about it from some locals in the area. Craving traditional Romanian food, my partner and I were looking forward to this place for dinner. Little did we know that it would be two hours of wasted time for us. First issue was that for a place with no available seating and a queue outside of waiting customers, you'd think there would've been more people to help. But on a saturday afternoon, there were only two servers servicing 12 - 14 tables seating 2 - 4 people each. Second issue was that once a table was cleared it still took 15 - 20 minutes for those same servers to clean them and set them up for the next batch of customers. Third was the terrible attitude of the servers. Granted, it was a packed restaurant with frustrated customers and only two servers servicing them all. But instead of trying to even explain the situation, they only took very harsh attitudes towards the customers from seating, to taking orders, to providing the food. Even when you asked for recommendations, the servers only responded with, "everything is good. Choose something." Not helpful advice at all. Fourth issue is the food itself. Given the higher end price, you'd think you'd get slightly larger portions or at least amazing tasting food. Instead the portions were quite small for the price and the taste nothing earth shattering. It was good, just not great. With this in mind, even with craving traditional Romanian food, I'd have to recommend that you only choose this place if there are NO others restaurants available in the area to eat at and it isn't a busy weekend. Very disappointed, especially after hearing such great reviews about the place.

The place is in the basement of the building and it does look like a wine cellar. It does not have many tables available and when we got there, we were lucky to get the last table. The food is truly traditional to the area and quite delicious. We enjoyed the Ciorba de perișoare, the salmon was grilled nicely and fhe Papanași were perfect. Price wise it was quite good, not expensive. The waiter was friendly and even knew how to speak in French (noticed that he was using ot with a big table of people).

Delightful experience in every way! Romanian food at it’s best! Two very careful, attentive and funny waiters, dressed in traditional clothing that will make you feel very welcomed.

Very good place to eat Romanian traditional food in a wine cellar taverna. Relaxed atmosphere, tasty food, polite and proffessional waiters wearing Romanian traditional costumes, everything is right and makes you feel good. While being not cheap, is not too expensive for the average tourist.

Amazing traditional food, friendly staff, quick service and reasonable prices - what more is there to look for in a restaurant? We came here after seeing the Mark Wiens review video and were so impressed, we returned again. Definitely try Tapșa - and even if you don't, polenta here is a must. 2nd time around we got soups - beef and bean with smoked pork - as well as mushroom stew, but ate everything in such a hurry, we forgot to take pictures :)) All in all, great meals and happy feels. I noticed the owner reads reviews - definitely give your funny waiter a rise, he's an asset to the place :D

This is a traditional Romanian restaurant located in a basement, that is, in a wine cellar. The food plates are large and, fortunately, tasty. The staff is dressed in traditional Romanian clothes, and ethno music is always playing in the speakers which makes a perfect atmosphere for foreign tourists. And the prices are right, nor small, but no exaggerated by large. Of course, the two waiters were at funny and helpful. Ursus beer bottle - 9 ron Plum brandy (50 ml) - 10 ron Soup trip (ciorba de burta) - 33 ron Tochitura - ~30 ron (I dont remember exactly the right price)

I was here 8 months ago, driven by the high rating it has on Google. I was looking forward to the traditional food everybody praised, after 2 years of living abroad, but I was left disappointed... I hope they are better now. I ordered Polenta with Milk, Beans soup with smoked meat, and Plum dumplings. Let's take them one by one: (but first I have to specify that I waited A LONG TIME for the food) Polenta with Milk, my favourite quick meal, perfect for when you have leftover polenta. In my 25 years of living in Romania, I have never heard about hot milk with hot polenta. At least one of them was always cold, in order to avoid the mess that I had here, where they mix and create something of the consistency of porridge. Was strange... Never thought I will leave such a dish unfinished. Beans soup with smoked meat: Tasted good, but the lack of meat was disappointing. I consider Romania the land of smoked meat, and to be served only 3 small pieces of meat, is extremely cheap. Plum dumplings: they were okay, but they offer you way too little jam, for the amount of fried dough. It becomes unsavoury quickly. About the place: It is located in the basement, and because of this, some might feel a bit claustrophobic. The entrance is very sketchy, almost horror like. At first I was worried to come in, but once in, the place looks nice. Unfortunately, because it is in the basement, there is no mobile phone signal, so be ready for a couple of hours without your phone (some might like it). About the personnel, my biggest issue with the place: When I visited it, there were two waitresses, a young person, probably in his twenties, and an older person, probably late thirties. The young person was the one who welcomed me, and he was wonderful. Respectuos and well behaved. Unfortunately, after he seated me, the other person continued the service. This one was very rude, and extremely annoying. The table in front of me was occupied by two foreigners, who made the mistake to come to this restaurant. The way he talked with me and them was rude, no bit of respect. He was answering our questions like that was the last thing in the world he wanted to do. From time to time, he tried to joke with them... God, those jokes were bad. Some of them were in English, some in Romania (even though they didn't understand the language), overall, none of them made any sense. The discomfort of the two was so visible, and I was feeling embarrassed for their experience in my country. When the waitress wasn't making that couple uncomfortable with his jokes, he was with a group at the big table, discussing and joking. Even then, he continued to decrease my, and the couple's, level of comfort. He was very noisy. My headphones couldn't cover him talking there, and the couple had no chance of holding a conversation. Overall, a very bad experience. Prices are high, the portion sizes are cheap and the service is quite bad. I am giving 2 stars, instead of one, because of how nice the young waitress was, and because the bean soup was tasty, even without the expected meat.

Quite the tourist place, they are used to foreigners. Extensive menu, tasty food, efficient service, and very nice atmosphere. We were a bit disappointed by the fried ice cream desert, as the strawberry ice cream really tasted artificial chemicals. A part from that, would recommend for a nice Romanian dinner in Sibiu.

Delicious local food. Try the apple juice if its available. Desserts were big portions so beware! Also 2 waiters but they were super efficient. Make sure you get seated early because they will not let you in if its about 1hour 15mins before closing!

This was one of the recommended restaurants. Location is hidden away from the busy street and underground. The 2 male servers that were working were great. The handsome one not as friendly as the other guy but still ok. He shd be in the entertainment industry, a model or actor! Had the bean soup and the pork cheek with noodles and saunkeraut which both tasted good. The bill doesn't include tipping but pls tip!

Small restaurant, full of charm and traditional Romanian look. Hidden gem of Sibiu, placed in basement with wonderful food and service. We had amazing experience there, staff was funny, informative and helpful. I was unable to finish my main course but took the rest with me to the hotel. Restaurant is kids friendly, but bear in mind there are stairs. We will revisit when will be back to Sibiu.

Wow what a place, you must come here. This is the best hidden gem in Romania. Amazing atmosphere, great service and fi ger licking great food. Every dish was delicious. When we god the bill we were very surpised of the low price, we ate at high end restaurants at 20X the cost where the food was not as good and we did not enjoy ourselves as much. This is a must do if you are in the area. We will come back again and again and again. Thank you

Mal hervorragend geschmeckt.

I ordered a soup and a peasant stew(pork). The soup is really good, lamb soup. Recommend. For the main course, there is good and bad. The bad thing was the pork is too dry, difficult to chew, so this is the first time I could not finish the meat! And have to admit the quantity is quite huge. The good thing is the polenta. When the cheese on top melt and mix with the juice, the taste is great! A small suggestion, the cheese could be placed under the fried egg which could melt the cheese faster, and the egg make like sunny side up, I think I would be even better than over egg. Oh, last thing, it is better you could provide the Wi-Fi coverage and show it clear, since down there is totally out of coverage.

I arrived because of the amazing rivews but after i finished eating its an average resturant. Located in Cibio old town underground and behind a regular door. There are around 20 tabels, the serving was fast compare to othets romanian resturants. Our waiter forgot from our bottels of water order, only after 3 times i asked and around 45 minutes we got them The waiter was also impatient during the evening, smile is one of the important things in resturatn!!! No parking in the area, so you must park outside the old town. Wont gi back.

Such a nice restaurant with very traditional interior, friendly staff and very tasty food. You shouldn't miss the beef soup and the beef fillet with peppercorn sauce. For dessert try the doughnuts with fruit jam, big portions and very tasty. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) BOOOM ...... It is a real shame that the reviews I do for the locals in Romania are not read much, anyway for those few who will look at these writings I can say GO THERE, we were three people and with an à la carte menu, both of Veal Sheep and beef, the quality is very high, waiters who as well as Romanian speak fluent Italian German English, the entrance to the restaurant is already characteristic a door under a sign then two flights of stairs to go down the first stops on the door of the (very clean) bathrooms the second one for the entrance of the restaurant about sixty tables set with hand-decorated ceramics, fantastic welcome by the waiters dressed in traditional clothes and not believing two traditional orchestral players that play for the pleasure of traditional music guests . Conclusion 3 complete dinners Fresh water beers and Palinca coffee Lei 240 with tip, ie € 50 or € 17 per person. Evaluate yourself ..... A nice Bravi at Stafff. Continuate cosi

This place, in my opinion, has a fair rating on Google Maps. I would like to notice an authentic taste of the Romanian dishes served here. On the other hand, I would like to get a higher level of the service. This restaurant has an authentic spirit inside, so a warmer attitude is expected as well.

The best food i have ever had in a restaurant. Great taste and amazing service. Even the staff gave me great advice not to overpay for some of the foods. The taste is a as natural as it can be. I dared to talk to the chef and found out some secretes. The food is organic and grew in a farm.

To be honest, I have been at Crama Sibiului with any occasion I was in Sibiu. The positive are the location, decoration and the excellent food (generous portions, fresh and tasty). A bit on a less positive light is the service. I appreciate all the advice and small talk with the staff wearing the traditional outfit. Hence, they get busy and overlook the order... I will return hoping for at least the same experience. in the picture 'Clatite cu urda'

A pretty interesting place, with a unique vibe and good food. The beef fillet was great, and the rustic potatoes I ordered with it were as well. The "Shepard's bag", a pork fillet stuffed with pork sausage, was great too. The Papanash was authentic and satisfying. My only complaint is the waiters being over friendly, and the mediocre live music, which frankly, was pretty bad and annoying.

A very nice rustic place. Lively crowd. Very good service although not all servers were as forth coming as the others. We were well received with jokes and puns which i always appreciate. The food was good although it does depend on everyone's tastes. Some complained that their food was not salty enough others on the contrary that it was to salted and so on. I definitely recommend the place!

(Translated by Google) They recommended it to us in the city and we tried to find a place. In fact, the place was full and we had to wait a bit, but the attestation was not in vain. The restaurant is not easily found and is located in a basement with a vaulted brick ceiling, typical and rustic furnishings, not very large and therefore the places remain a little close together. Excellent traditional local dishes, especially the ciorbe. Kind and fast service, we had a great time. Highly recommended, also from the point of view of the final expense.

(Translated by Google) After reading about this restaurant in many blogs, once I arrived in Sibiu, I couldn't resist and I went to dinner at Crama Sibiul Vechi too. The location is characterized by a barrel vault covered with many small red bricks. The waiters wear traditional clothes and during dinner a group of musicians played Romanian folk music. What can I say ... a nice step back in time! I enjoyed an excellent sarmale, the famous cabbage rolls stuffed with meat, accompanied by an excellent red wine. It is impossible not to make a stop in this place if you are traveling in Transylvania.

An amazing traditional Romanian restaurant located in the city center. The atmosphere is very authentic. The place is located in an old cellar it is cold and there is no smoking of any sort (including electronic). The service is very good, there is a disclaimer that you may need to wait up to 45 minutes, but this is good, because everything is made fresh and it is not premade. The food is very good. The polenta was very tasty. The Shepherd's bag was amazing, just amazing. And the Papanashi were delicious. The home made pickles were very good and the Romanian beer also. The place is not a tourist trap, unlike some other places in the center.

Dont miss this restaurant whenever in Sibiu. I tried the peasants stew and the cheese dumplings, they both tasted like heaven. The service may be a bit slow, because there are only two waiters serving, but it totally worth to wait. Also the athmosphere is very unique in the basement, and the temperature is very nice ecpecially in the middle of the summer.

Fantastic restaurant! I arrived around noon on a Wednesday and was immediately seated by a friendly server who spoke English (menu is in English too). I skipped the appetizers, but was sorry when I saw all the soups being poured tableside! Luckily, my main course - the sarmale - made up for any regret. It was delicious, and I finished every last bite. An order of the papanasi and a cappucino rounded out the meal - all that and a beer cost me about $20. Fantastic place, highly recommended.

It was a very good experience. I have now tried to dine at Cram Sibiul Vechi 2 times in fourteen days. Both times the food was very good and the waiters was nice. The second time I was there with my colleagues, the waiter remembered us and said that he was glad that we came back. That is a good service. I'll gladly visit again next time I visit Sibiu.

OMG! This place is amazing. I ate here until I felt I will explode. Portions are big, waiters do good jokes(in Romanian), smile and are friendly. Good job whoever runs the place!

Everything tasted like school lunch food... very expensive compared to other similar restaurants in the area. I don't know what they used to be, but I don't think they should be serving memories. Service was also lacking, somewhat. It was NOT a horrible or bad experience, it was an "ok" experience... answering reply. The coffee was mediocre, I had something with lamb, but the meat had a very strange rubbery texture unlike any other lamb dish I have had in my 12 years in Sibiu. Also, the sauce was overly simple and bland. My wife's dish was the same. We had to go get something somewhere else afterwards to wash the flavor out of our mouth. Maybe you have a few good dishes, but you really need to rethink your "tocanita " style dishes. I came there with my wife for our 19th wedding anniversary. We had first discussed marriage in your restaurant 20 years ago. Too bad the quality has gone down. PLEASE fix it... I want to come to your place...
