Impressive collection. The museum was sometimes a bit confusing to follow but nonetheless very much worth the visit.

The Dukes of Bourgondy took the belfrey clock of Kortrijk and placed it on the Notre Dame at Dijon in order for the 'Jaquemart' to strike each hour of the day. But it wouldnt be the only artifact that the Dukes would take from Flanders. As the power of the Dukes rose, so as well did the cultural richness as they ordered several most reknown artist of the time to excell on their artwork. Although the French revolution destroyed the church where the richness of the Dukes was ment to survive the ages, the tombs survived so we can still witness how Klaus Sluter sculpted the 'plearants' in order to grieve for the Duke and his whife. But there is much more to see than only the medieval art. Certaibly wirthwhile the visit.

The entrance is on the side of the large building that was once the Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy. The collection spans a long period and is not so special. Sometimes you see an item that stands out but most of it you just pass. What is impressive are the tombs of the Dukes of Burgundy which are best seen from a balcony above. The museum is a maze of galleries with stairs and elevators everywhere. Navigation is a bit difficult Entrance is free.

Beautiful place with loads of art, a wide variety of it, and a bit of history! The Duke and Duchesses tombs are particularly impressive.

Nice Museum, very well renovated mixing modern display and traditional aesthetic. Sculptures, paintings, ancient and more modern art will be available for free, it is a very unique initiative from the city of Dijon. Well served with 2 elevators too

Free entry to museum that is Burgundy's answer to the Louvre. Easy walk with tonnes of art and sculpture. Well air conditioned for summer too.

I was shocked that entrance was free for such a unique, extensive exhibition of some rare paintings and sculptures. A nice walk through history, and Christianity in Europe. The facilities were top notch, modern, clean and spacious.

Amazing museum in an amazing city. The museum is objectively small, only three floors, but what a chic and amazing exposition. I'm not talking about the fact that the entrance is free. This is absolutely and very important for all visitors, especially for those who go with the whole family and who want to join the works of art. And of course many thanks for this to the city. Where I was, I have not seen this anywhere else, it is unique, many thanks to the city for this ones more. Exposition from ancient times to the present day, very good logistics of rooms, very good arrangement of paintings, spacious halls - all this in general is conducive to a calm viewing of the collection. 100% recommendation!

Another of the great Musee des Beaux Arts of France, originally established just before the French Revolution. Many magnificent art pieces from antiquity to the modern day. Also houses the tombs of Dukes of Burgundy. The building itself is part of the palace of the Dukes of Burgundy.

Nice museum although the directions to follow for going around the museum were somewhat patchy. Plenty of oil paintings on canvas, a good section on sculpture, covering especially on François Pompon. The other very interesting parts were on the history of Burgundy and its four dukes. Unless I missed it, I was surprised of not seeing anything about Gustave Effeil whom has we know built the Effeil Tower and was born and grew up in Dijon

What a great museum this is and it is free (in the summer). Absolute must see in Dijon.

Very fine museum with free entrance! Various paintings, mostly midevil, and statues.

Some lovely artworks and an extensive collection in this free museum housed in a beautiful building. We had a tasty lunch in the brasserie though we were disappointed in the staffs very obvious laughing at our attempts to speak French. Our attempts are in no way perfect but at least we were trying! Rather ruined what had until then been a nice experience.

Great museum with a lot of different exhibitions and displays, ranging from the history of the building itself to medieval up to 20C art as well as some contemporary exhibits at the very top floor of the museum. Free of charge to view the permanent collection but you have to pay to see the temporary exhibition.

This is a must see attraction. It has a wonderful range of interesting exhibits and is beautifully laid out in the former Ducs palace.

Must-do if in Dijon. Well-curated and presented collections of historical, local, and modern art.

Its free, has amazing architecture to look at and some outstanding art as well. Just for the ceilings in some rooms it is worth a visit though. Go to the top floor and onto the balcony of the dukes to look at the coffins.

OG). Der Eintritt ist frei.

This museum is a must-see in Dijon with artwork from as early as the 14th century. It demonstrates the evolution of art from two to three-dimensional art employing more artistic technique & introducing light and depth.

Free entry but you need to go to the counter to get a little ticket before you cross into the galleries. I think it's just to find out where you come from for research purposes. The owl walk comes through here (see my other post) There's a small but nice green patch out the front if you need a rest.

Free entry, wonderfull variety of art and friendly staff. They ask you to wear your backpack in your front. Admire the space and surprised it is not more crowded.

Huge, a lot to see and it is free. Friendly staff. Totally recommended!

A must-visit in Dijon! You can easily spend 2-3 hours at the museum, using their self-guided tour (either free via the museum website / mobile application or €4 audio guide), which is packed with information about the Palace's history and architecture, as well as the various artworks. Kudos to the friendly staff!

We enjoyed this museum. First off, it is free. They also have free lockers to store your stuff if you want. And the bathrooms are very clean relative to most in public areas. We came in January, so almost had the place to ourselves. We are not art experts but enjoyed the entire place. Definitely worth a visit.

Great free museum. You go through the art by the ages and they have a pretty good selection of works. Spent about an hour here, had to leave my bag at the counter but the clerks were helpful about it.

Very nice, smaller art museum in a historic building. And it was the best price (free!) when we went in December 2022. English translations in each of the rooms gave context to the part of the building and/or art period it was intended to showcase.

Visited with someone in a wheelchair as the website touted excellent accessibility. You have to hold open doors though, for which I deduct a star. The art collection is nice, though not vast. Very small African art section was a favorite.

Beautiful museum with big art collection. The main collection doesn't really have a 'storyline', and it felt a bit haphazzardly organised. Despite this, it is worth a visit and a nice addition to a trip to Dijon. Visiting the museum is free.

The tombs of the great dukes are impressive and a must see, but the rest is not that interesting.

Inside the ducal palace is the museum of fine arts, which focuses on medieval and religious art. The highlight is the ornate tombes of the Dukes of Burgundy in the main hall. Underneath the tombes are numerous figures called 'the mourners', of which each represents a different emotion. Additionally, there are several swords, weapons, and the Duke's crown. Entry is free!

One of the best museums I have visited in a long time. Everything is so beautifully presented. And covering such a wide variation of interests. Make sure you have plenty time, it is bigger and more interesting than you at first think. I had such a good time there.

Museum is lovely and well organized, guiding visitors chronologically through the collection. For free admission, this museum really exceeded expectations.

👍👍 We were blown away by this little place practically in the middle of the city. Fountain, small pond, the sound of falling water, just the perfect place for a little rest.
