The food was not good. It used to be the best place to eat, but now the quality is downgraded.

This place is a lot better than the ones in city. Their spicy sauce is amazing and food flawless. Eveytime I go there, staff are very friendly and helpful. Update- went there after a year and food was still the same as good as before but service no better. One of the server didn’t even understand when we’re ordering and was ridiculous when asked for some chilies was told will be charge for that. Before they used to have chilli oil on the table but not anymore and then when asked for fresh chili they are just thinking of how to make monkey. With service that like would never go back.

Me and my buddy were here for a quick dinner and it was way past the dinner time. Usually, the China bar in CBD opens 24hrs, this outlet is open only until 4 AM. It was a bit crowded, most of the tables were occupied and the ambiance was good. I liked the energy in there and the interiors and flooring may make some people feel uneasy. I ordered the Flat rice noodles with crispy beef. The staff, a young man, seemed he prefers not to talk instead he just throw down the menu and showed up the paper to mark our choice. We scribbled down the order and later the person took it off for the kitchen. The way he served the food was a bit rude. Instead of putting down slowly he just pushed it on the table like he is throwing food for free. And the worst part is, he didn't even acknowledge that he served the food instead he just quickly walked away to the next customer. The food was delicious and as we were enjoying it over a good conversation the earsplitting sound of the juicer made everyone uncomfortable. It was really a let down every time the juicer comes on. I wish they could have operated it in an isolated session at the kitchen. The noodles were fine but, it was a bit of too many flavors that I could literally taste the powder they put it. You can see that when you look at the noodles how all those spice powders stuck on to the food. We had a good time dining here given, the mixer is turned off. The staff should be trained properly in customer service. The food was delivered pretty fast which is impressive. A good 'late night' joint.

Amazing food. We ordered chicken fried rice. It's a lot and easily a portion for two and it was great. Garlic prawn spring rolls were like so crunchy and yummy. They stood out of all the dishes and a must eat fish at every visit. Seafood soup is something I did not like and my fried ordered prawn fried rice. I highly recommend ordering your fried rice spicy and you shall be eating food sitting at the doors of heaven. We also ordered some seafood noodles which was good.

Definitely not recommended! Ordered roast combination with rice. The flavor of roast combination was acceptable, but the rice is raw! Asked if that possible to change another plate of rice for me, the waitress not even listened to my whole sentence and said, "Just put more sauces on rice! Our rice is like that." I was like I beg your pardon???? A brand restaurant established more than 20 years can't even cooked well a bowl of rice? A suggestion here, get your staffs trained. Please don't ruin your 20years reputation.

More expensive compared to other restaurants in BH. Food is ok - don't bother with their signature fried rice (extremely plain for the price and the meat is spam not even bbq pork). The bbq meats are good but noodles lacking in flavour. Free tea is provided if you ask for it but very watered down. I wouldn't come back considering the multitude of options in BH. Staff are better than other places in BH though - not rude.

Absolutely DISGUSTING service today. We have spent over $1000 on lunchtime takeaway here in the last 6 weeks alone. Today, they sent wrong food and charged wrong ( higher) prices. $33.50 for beef stir-fry but we got sent a lunch dish... mainly rice with a sprinkle of beef/vege. I simply rang to ask them to resend 1 dish, and the Asian man who answered pH was incredibly rude to me, spoke in mumbles, then hung up on me. When I rerang, to speak to a manager, he refused to answer the ph x3, then answered and hung straight up. DISGUSTING...and typical of somewhere where staff needs customer service training and someone who can speak decent English to answer phones and deal with customer issues. This could have been quickly and easily resolved, but because of this shameful customer service after a mistake made by THEM- we will no longer be supporting the Box Hill branch of China Bar ( Doncaster store cooks better food anyway!!)You guys just lost a frequent local customer!!!!!!

The food was fresh and super delicious! 😁 Staff and service was friendly and I definitely will be coming back! Also the in house chilli oil is so tasty, not very spicy at all but very delicious.

The China Bar in Box Hill has the best Chicken Curry Laksa ever, so far that I have tried. They have different types of curry laksa, but chicken is the best. Their Char Kuay Teow, which is flat noodles fried with prawns, fish cake, bean sprouts, is really good as well. Almost as good as in Malaysia. You must also have their Hainan chicken rice. Do you know that not all China Bars are the same? I didn't know that until I went to another China Bar and suddenly realised the Box Hill branch is better. Here is a menu hack for you: They have a "buy two and get one free" offer. It's only for take away, but the trick is you can eat one dish in the restaurant and takeaway two. So, my favourite is to eat the curry laksa in the restaurant and takeaway two dishes (eg. chicken rice). It's really a good deal. Something like $33 can get you a lunch for yourself and dinner for two at home. Unfortunately I couldn't give them 5 stars because not all dishes are fantastic, but the ones they do best, they do well. Highly recommended.

My go to place for meals when I was living in Box hill. Big menu (I found items that are no longer available in the CBD one), food quality is quite stable, pretty fast serving. Friendly staff, I highly recommend you won’t regret

This place is very up and down. The service is amazing yet appalling. Yes, the food I ordered came within 1 minute which was amazing. However, I went with 3 friends at 11pm and the restaurant had barely anybody in it. And because 2 of my friends didn’t order anything, they got kicked out by this rude old man and had to wait outside. This rule makes no sense as they weren’t as a business going to make any more money from their 2 seats as no stranger would sit with two strangers. Disgusting.

Recently dined in. Will not fault food as it is quite tasty. Will not fault service, as it is prompt. However, I will fault cleanliness. I will fault one waiter who happened to be on break coughing sneezing into a tissue who proceeded to wipe his nose with his hands. COVID is still around. I for one have health issues and struggle to be in public places. When his break was over he wore mask. (Great) I then noticed him sneezing. To my surprise he took off mask and sneezed???? He then wore mask after he sneezed. Disgusting. Furthermore, as I commented cleanliness is of low standard. I wiped my fork with serviette, only to find dirt on the fork! I'm disgusted with lack of hygiene in this place. I was there on the 25/12/2023.

Food was good and tasty. The old man was too rude to us, he put and slide the small bowl to our table and walk away. Like????? This is very disrespectful. People should have manners especially the staffs.

Haven’t been to china bar in so long and used to love it. The menu is so limited and all of the food we tried was lacking in flavour. The meat cuts weren’t great and they were boiled so again, very little flavour. Won’t return again :(

Narrow restaurant plenty of seating. The restaurant is a hive of activity no matter the amount of dinner's in the restaurant the service is exceptional from the greeting making you feel welcome to being seated ordering was unusual, ordering pads with your table number all you do is write the order down on the pad by using the corresponding meal numbers by how many the staff collect the order and while you wait which is not long you can have a chat. Then the food arrives and the wait is worth it the food is so full of flavour and plentiful it satisfies from start to finish. The crispy pork is crispy and delicious. The BBQ pork is full of flavour. Steamed pork dumplings wow. Mongolian beef heart warming and filling. Oh and the lemon chicken crispy fried chicken with a lemon sauce absolutely perfect.

One of my favourite Chinese restaurants of all time. We have been eating from this place for last 15 years and tried most of their dishes. It was consistent with its taste, quality and quantity. Sadly we have noticed big quality drop in past 3 months and they lost their consistent. Price is relatively highly compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area. But we don’t mind if they can re-produce the good old taste.

Visited around midnight, the curry laksa with roast pork was pretty good. The ckt had wok hei but too salty for our palate. Large portions of both. Service super quick and efficient. This branch has a benefits program based on cumulative number of meals above a set amount - ask the staff for details

The place is nice but depending where you sit, you can have a hard time talking due to background noise. The wall art is interesting to look at as well. The only real downside to visiting is that you need to spend a minimum $30 to pay by card and sometimes when I ask for things (takeaway) the staff aren't sure what I'm asking for. However the food is great and very tasty, and staff are very attentive. Take away also tends to be ready quickly.

Old school establishment. Opens late. Full range menu with all the classic Cantonese dishes. Consistent taste. Fair prices. Great comfort food. What more can you ask for?

The roasted pork and chicken dumplings were really nice but the duck was not as good as the one I've tried in the Russel street branch. Food aside, the service there was terrible, it wasn't busy at the time but was so hard to get the attention of the staff and when we finally had their attention the way they were speaking was just rude. Other then that, the water/tea they served tasted like unfiltered old water.

Found it very oily and salty, service was good and food came out reasonably quick. Spent $121 between three of us which wasn't bad, there was a lot of food. The chicken and core soup came out a little cold bit was taken away and heated up. It was possible the nicest dish and didn't make me feel like I had over done it.

Curry Chicken Rice is my most favorite among their dishes! Nonetheless, custard buns are perfect as they are!

Fast food Chinese style. Open late, tastes pretty good, and close to my house. Can't really go wrong... 5 stars mainly because it is convenient and consistent :)

Visited after a long time. Was not that crowded like it was used to be, because of covid. But good covid safety measures taken.

Their crispy pork rice is on the next level. So far I could not find that quality in any China bar out in Australia

All my favourite dishes, especially the roasted duck so delicious 😋 Too bad their drinks menu has changed, all else I would give this a 5 stars.

I love the Chicken and Cashews with vegetables. It reminds me of a dish my Grandfather ordered for me as a teenager and I hadn’t had it for almost 20 years after his passing. The staff are very friendly and efficient, even when busy they are never grumpy or rush you. Great for takeaways and they have cash only set meals daily which are a bargain. Highly recommend this location over the CBD ones.
