This is a really busy place. As a former Cafe owner and Barista, I found the coffee below par. I approached the manager who assured me that I got a double shot. He said if you want an 'intense' flavour try a triple shot. So be warned. This brew does not pack much of a punch. It seems to be a very mild (bland imho) 'Padre' labelled bean. I won't be going back.

When you’re in South Melbourne market & looking for a coffee, go visit Padre. I saw a long queue & I thought the coffee must be good. Ordered flat white & it didn’t disappoint my expectation.

Firstly, male staff members at this establishment are sorely in need of customer service training. When I ordered an iced latte in a mug and a glass of water on the side, the cashier appeared to have difficulty understanding my simple order. Despite my clear request to have the coffee served for consumption on site, it was presented to me by a nice lady in a "plastic cup". Ordering a cup of water proved to be equally challenging, as a tall, unfriendly Caucasian male server seemed unwilling to hand over a simple glass of water. I have no intention of revisiting this place, and if you do choose to go there, please be mindful of their poor service.

Seems very crowded at the South Melbourne Market but the coffee was very mediocre. This particular bland isn’t strong despite already having a double shot. 🤔 It tastes quite milky. I prefer my coffees strong but if you like your coffee mild-tasting, you can give it a shot. After a few sips, I requested for an additional (third) shot.

I was fascinated by this coffee shop that located in the middle of South Melbourne Market for its long queue. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about coffee. They even suggested which type of coffee that i would prefer. But sadly, the coffee was good but not ‘over-the-top’ fantastic. I was hoping for more. The interior is so bright and clean-looking, really eye-catching.

Not bad, but not exceptional. I found the regular latte a little too milky and served a little too hot for my liking.

We are not big, big coffee drinkers, but Padre Coffee is never without a line and seemed very solid. We decided to try getting chai lattes ($5) Not sure if they were having a bad day, but the chai was very watery/diluted. Simultaneously, we recognise that they are known for their coffee, so it may be because of that as well.

Since last couple of months something changed . I don’t know if it is new staff or new company policy, but now coffee is surprisingly bad. I asked for a Small long black, but received a bucket of coffee-ish liquid. This happened last time I visited too, about a month ago.Back when I thought it was a mistake but now I see it wasn’t…The charge was 4,5 $ and it is a price for a high end coffee in Melbourne. So, to the owners-it’s not late to turn back and serve this high end coffee you used to have.

Popular coffee joint selling a good variety of drinks, retail beans and merch. Clearly insufficient seats for those interested to dine in so the next best option is to get takeaway and find a table somewhere else in the market.

10 years ago this used to be good place to get a specialty coffee and have options of what blend you would like to try. The service was friendly and Melbourne had less specialty coffee elsewhere. It justified The small size and lack of flavour options. Now, I ask for their blend options and they tell me just to drink their regular one, can’t tell me the flavour of the beans or origin and are rude about it. The size is still small, coffee is expensive, it only tasted ok and the service was rude. Not quite a 1 star but at the bottom of my list of places to return to.

Ordered a decaf latte with oat milk. Super friendly service. There were lots of people wanting a coffee here as well. Also the decaf is single origin from Mexico which does me they care where their coffee comes from.

My partner bought a tin of their coffee. At first I thought it was caffeine-free but then I realised it's just their blend. It doesn't taste like coffee. It has a very mild taste, and my lattes end up tasting a bit like hot milk. Overall, based on that experience I can't rate it any higher. I'm still making my way through it.

Nice place to relax and have a cuppa coffee amidst the eating and shopping in the South Melbourne Market! My children enjoyed the hot chocolate with the marshmallow!

Awesome coffee - great for enjoying while exploring the South Melbourne Market! The service is super friendly and quick so even if it's a little busy, you won't have to wait too long to get your coffee fix.

Great smooth, creamy coffee - might not be the best choice for those who enjoy strong bold flavours but a personal favourite. Lines can be long on the weekend but moves fast. Staff are pleasant and their coffee pods are great to have at home.

Worst coffee I’ve ever had. Tasted like watered down bitter filtered so-called coffee. Besides the wait time. Would not recommend it.

Come here almost every other day with my partner Seamus. Coffee is banging, serving is banging! Although it can get busy on the weekends, that’s nothing these barista superstars can’t handle. They are always happily punching out melbs best coffee for us to drink. ❤️

One of the best, if not the best coffee I've ever had here in melbourne. My soy flat white was amazing. Love it.

First off, the cashier got an attitude. That was already a turn-off to me. Then she took a wrong order and served me a cup of batch-brew coffee instead of pourover. Quite disappointing although the coffee itself tasted pretty good, to be fair.

Best coffee in Melbourne. This was the first branded coffee I had in Melbourne and it took me a while to find this brand again. I now own a coffee machine with only padre coffee beans

Something has changed at Padre’s at South Melbourne market. The coffe a year ago was really good. It is now so bad - undrinkable. Bitter .. also the milk is burnt. Sent back the oat latte and got a regular latte - both very average!

When in South Melbourne Market, try Padre! I live quite far from here so when I went here, I’ll go for Padre. Love Padre coffees! My church use their beans and been making coffee with Padre beans. Now I get to try their coffee in their cafe. Amazing coffee still.

Horrible fraudulent company. I started a subscription for coffee beans. Cancelled it but I keep getting charged. I have emailed the company and customer service person “Tom” four times trying to get this cancelled and I keep getting charged and sent coffee. I have contacted my bank and cancelled my card and raised several dispute claims against padre but still getting chanrged. I’m at a loss as to what to do. I have an unwell four month old daughter and really don’t have time to deal with this. I have made this known to padre and they just keep ignoring me. They need to work on their customer service for coffee bean delivery as my requests just keep getting ignored. Very unprofessional and is just the last straw for a very difficult time for my family. Obviously, I know my daughter’s health isn’t their fault but they need to stop ignoring my emails. Happy to provide evidence of these. Just an unethical company and even though I enjoy their coffee, would steer clear as they can’t be bothered to cancel my subscription.

Wonderful coffee. Prepare to wait as the queue gets quite long.

Coffee is not bad at all, but the staff is one of the most inefficient I ever saw in a coffee place. Even though there’s 5-6 people around 2 machines, you will always wait more than 15 minutes for your coffee, and last time I even got a smaller size (for which I gave up after having waited all that time).. switched to another place for my morning weekends in the market..

Padre serves good coffee at a lot of places. This cafe in South Melbourne Market is popular because of not only good location, but also good quality coffee!

  • 3/5 Lil T. 2 years ago on Google
Been to Padre 2 years ago where they had excellent coffee unfortunately today it is overpriced and not up to par. The cashier got my order wrong, initially asked for a small iced latte, and he said there was only medium for iced so I ordered a small hot latte. He charged me for a medium instead with the public holiday surcharge of 15% and card charges 5.85 for a maccas grade coffee, with worse off service.

30 minute wait for coffee, no dedicated waiting area so hard to discern length in a busy market area. No line to order so thought it must be quick or reasonable at the least. staff gave no indication of wait time which is common elsewhere if waits are 10 minutes even. Poor service, expect much more honest and transparent communication from staff if timing is like that.

Disappointed with Daddy's Girl change of blend We have been buying this DG. blend for years and noticed change in flavour long time ago, but, we thought it was us or our espresso machine However, checking the internet I have found that the blend has been modified at least 4 times, but, it is still called the same DG Blend, how can you keep the brand identity changing is mix blend? Blends found, so at least 4 different blends: 40% Colombia Totoro, 40% Brazil Sweet Espresso, 20% Ethiopia Sidamo COLOMBIA GAITANIA 40% BRAZIL SWEET ESPRESSO 40% ETHIOPIA YIRGACHEFFE GELANA GEISHA 20% Colombian, Indian and Ethiopian beans And the latest: COLOMBIA GAITANIA 40% BRAZIL SWEET ESPRESSO 40% BRAZIL FAZENDA BELA VISTA 20%

Not really sure what's going on here but the coffee is extremely weak. You really start to question if there's a shot in the coffee at all. My wife took two sips and promptly chucked it in the bin.

I was looking forward to a decent coffee at Padre. Sadly disappointed. The person taking orders acted like they’d want to be anywhere but there. The coffee was way too hot and not very strong. Overrated. Also the store design isn’t compatible for a busy market.

Delicious coffee. Also worth the visit (and wait) in South Melbourne markets. Coffee bean used not sour, the roast isn't over done.

Even though I admit that their batch brew is nice, I m constantly disappointed with their poor customer service. All we ordered were 2 batch brew coffees with no crowds behind us. After our order, we had to wait for the baristas who were busy with the coffees ordered before us. I asked nicely after a short wait to see if the cashier (who had nothing to do) could pour us our batch brew but the manager said sarcastically making sure I heard, “they can wait”. The last time we came with the same order, it was busy and they forgot our order.. both barista and cashier misunderstood who was pouring it for us. So I m left speechless for their lack of hospitality on both Occassion.

Don't get me wrong. I've had coffee made in other cafes using the Padre beans who give such a good name to the brand. Can't say the same for the latte from this joint. Shocking and disappointing! Is it the barista or ....? I know, I know... First world problem.

Excellent mocha. Ordered one with full cream milk and other with Almond milk. Did not disappoint, good service and reasonable wait time considering how busy it was.

what a disappointing experience today at your south melbourne market location - the girl behind the counter seemed miserable, not a single smile, no sense of customer service - almost seemed robotic just saying, next, taking the order and money and moving on to the next customer. the young man handing the coffee out, was repeatedly brushing his hair back with his hands (seemed long and getting in his face) then using his hands to put the lids on the cups, fingers all over the sippy part - i was immediately put off. my partner ordered a coffee which tasted burnt and my hot chocolate was just hot milk poured onto the chocolate powder, i had to ask for a spoon to mix it myself as it was just hot milk with all the contents on the bottom - definitely not worth the visit, considering the hype around this place

One of the best coffee in town, definitely the best in South Melbourne Market. They just incapable of making less than perfect coffee. A cup of coffee latte would be prepared by 3 baristas. One for the coffee, one for the perfectly foamed milk and another for the latte art. Highly recommended.

Hit or miss. I always order the same thing and some days it's great, some days it's just bad. I expect better from specialty coffee considering there are great options in the area.

Located at South Melbourne Market, Padre Coffee made really great coffee and had a selection of beautiful-looking pastries and muffins on display. Their staff was always so friendly as well. It was definitely one of my favourite coffee places in South Melbourne.
