Walked in and asked one of the staff if I sit or order at the counter. He asked if it's my first time and I said yes. He then proceeded to walk me to the counter while explaining everything on the menu and mentioning which ones they were best known for. After I ordered a few of his recommendations (the hot dog, Polish sausage, fries) I waited, grabbed my food and sat down. One of the best hot dogs I've ever eaten and the buns were so soft. I enjoyed the toppings on the hot dog more than the onions on the sausage but they were both great and the fries were delicious too. Overall the food was very inexpensive and filled me up well. The nice staff member even came by once he saw me get up and asked how it was and what I ordered. Having somebody like that definitely puts Portillo's as a must-return for me. The place was kept super clean as well which was nice to see!

I grew up out here and this is one of my favorite places to come back to. Their Chicago-style dogs are fantastic, they have awesome fries, their chopped salad is one of my favorite salads ever, and their cake shakes are to die for. Not to mention the interior is fun to look at. They have tons of seating. They make food very fast and call out your number with a fun little rhyme. On my last visit i left my purse behind and realized it 30 min after we left. I’m thankful for the honest and wonderful people who work there who found my purse and kept it safe until I came to retrieve it. Thanks portillos!

I stopped eating at Portillo's for probably the last 5 years because of terrible experiences after experiences at different locations of Portillo's. One can only tolerate so much before giving up. I sworn off Portillo's but given an opportunity, I tired them one more time at the Downers Grove location and they might have restored some faith in me again. I am giving The Downers Grove location 5 stars just because the food was excellent and the GM and crew was so nice. Restaurant was clean and staff was friendly. I tried the garden hot dog and it was interesting. Italian beef was good with sweet and hot giardiniera. Cheese fries is a must. Their chocolate cake shake is my go to and Portillo's famous chocolate cake is a out of this world. Get the chocolate cake. If you don't want anything else in life from Portillo's, cheeseburger is cheeseburger and fries is fries but this cake is the most delicious thing you can put into your mouth from this restaurant so always get the cake and visit the Downer's Grove location if you want to spend money on a better Portillo's than the others, visit this one. It's worth the drive for me.

Nice restaurant too busy and not enough help to take care of the customers they have. I went to get a Chocolate Cake and stand in the main line of ordering. Well you guess it right lucky day it was the wrong lane. I must go and order at the other end at pickup and delivery counter. When got there there was another lane. So it took me almost half an hour to just walk in and walk out with the cake which was just sitting in the shelf. I think they need better signs and some process to handle customers promptly. If they streamlined I could have been in and out in less than 5 minutes. My thought the rush may have been caused of not handling customers in an organized manner. I liked the cake but not going there soon for that. I can’t afford to spend 1/2 hour of my time in line to pick up a cake. Take a pass.

Portillo is a chain hot dog/burger restaurant famous for its hot dog. The food and service are great. Too bad their plant base hot dog is out. Will try it out next time.

We were recommended to try a local staple for an Italian beef sandwich. Food: We had an Italian beef sandwich, an Italian beef and sausage sandwich, a portillo hotdog, and fries. All were good for a chain that borders on fast food. Service: Counter service, self serve so not much to speak of but the employees were friendly and efficient. Atmosphere: family friendly casual place with options for the whole family. Nice 1920s prohibition Era decor. Fun.

Who doesn't love Portillo's there's something for everyone. They have a someone at the salad station whipping out some creative salads that tastes just as good as it's presented. Of course the original menu items are a must haves. Make sure you try the chocolate cake

Food was good but wrong. Didn’t have time to go back as we ordered at 9:45pm inside the restaurant. Ordered a double cheeseburger and once I got to my destination it was a single cheeseburger. I also dislike the fact that this restaurant is always dirty. Behind the counter food is always everywhere (on the floor, on the counter tops). This store is always a mess in the evening. To say that every Portillos you go to they are always busy because the food is great. I feel they should have 1 or 2 people only focused on cleaning.

Being from out of town and never having been to Portillos or eaten a Chicago-style Italian beef, the manager made recommendations for me. My combo sausage and Italian beef combo was amazing! I recommend mozzarella cheese and gravy on it.

Enjoyed lunch at Portillo's . Ordered at counter. Staff was nice. While they were moderate busy it took about 10 minutes to get our order. I had Italian beef with fries. The beef was good and the fries were hot warm and crispy. Classic Chicago food like I remembered as a kid.

Chicago dog!! Loved the snap of the casing! The Italian beef, a must to double dunk it in the aujus gravy. Staff was super friendly! Collections of cool stuff to see.

Super cool place!! The chocolate cake shake it as by far the greatest! Took me back to my childhood of mixing my cake and ice cream together. If you go you have to get a dog.

Nice for the experience. Service was fast. Familiarize with the toppings that each food comes with. Dog was OK. Jumbo dog wasn’t so jumbo. Price was a bit steep in my opinion. Got the beef dip, polish sausage, jumbo dog, fries, cheese burger, shakes, and Greek salad (came with chicken).

Amazing customer service! After an issue with Uber eats, Portillo’s went above and beyond to help us out and even threw in a free soda while I was waiting for the food. They were super friendly, also helped me carry the food to my car. So grateful for the outstanding service from the Portillo’s employees, especially during a busy lunch rush! Thank you!!

My go to place! Can never go wrong going here! The spicy chicken sandwich is my new favorite now! So good and worth getting! Don’t forget to join birthday club to get a free piece of cake!

Drive thru line went fast despite being crowded. Order was correct. Fries were really good. Italian beef was good, meat was tender and had a good flavor. Bread was a bit soggy on end but tasted good because it was soaked in beef juice.

This is a special Portillo with extra spacious room and decors on steroids. Takes you back to the olden days for sure. Food. The Chicago dogs are great! Everything they should be.

Awesome location and right by Good Sam hospital!! I get my wife lunch from their often and they never mess up the order and always have everything ready on time which is a big deal when you're bringing food to a hard working nurse!! Workers are great but man is this place a scam. One maybe two years ago my beef n cheddar croissant was packed with beef. Now it’s the size of a HOTDOG while prices continue to rise. Foods TASTES great. Employees are great. Stop rationing Portillos give people what they paid for.
