Our room was very clean, we were part of a tour group so we were there 2 nights. Thankfully our room was ready when we arrived at 9am so we could rest. Front desk staff were excellent, everyone on all shifts! Very helpful! Breakfast was done very well with many options! The fruit cup was fresh and the pastries and yogurt parfaits were very good! We had dinner in the hotel restaurant 1 night and it was very good as was the staff too, very friendly and answered lots of our questions! The dining area is beautiful!

My husband and I stayed here mid August for two nights and I highly recommend it. The hotel building has a Harry Potter vibe from its Masonic past and this added to the whole experience!! The rooms were comfy and clean. There was a great choice on the breakfast menu. What made our stay were the friendly staff. They were warm and attentive and gave excellent service.

We were only there one night, but I was so glad there was underground parking included, to start with. Check in was really easy, the room was great and the beds were really comfortable. There is only 1 small elevator, so I recommend asking for the first or second floor :) The restaurant had a great selection too!

Bathroom black mould and silverfish. Hotel is in a good location. Room was nice although very old fashioned. No power sockets near the bed. TV did not work, remote batteries suspected. TV looked old and may not have had new apps if any. Bed was comfortable, but the bathroom had large spots of black mould and the shower curtain had mould stains. The room also had silverfish. I had to ensure bags and clothes were never on the floor to ensure I didn't bring these guests home.

The hotel looks fancy from the outside and the price tells you the same, but in reality it's just totally average. Staff at check-in wasn't really friendly, maybe we are not their typical clientele. All in all, the hotel is not worth the high price we paid. At least the breakfast was decent.

Stayed one night and found the level of customer service both professional and friendly. Room was very clean and the choice of food at the breakfast buffet was very impressive. I have stayed in this hotel before and would be happy to stay there again. In summary, great hotel with wonderful staff.

It was a decent property but my first night stay was a nightmare in this hotel. Saw few of these in my room during the night time. Next morning I was moved to another room which was surely a better room with a beautiful view. Expected a lot from this property but wasn’t good enough. Would like to appreciate Reception lady Queen & Duty Manager for the overall help during the stay.

Hotel building might be 4 star but service is 2 star. Staff were friendly but multiple issues both with reception and bar with regards forgetting drinks, ignoring notes on booking and no follow up on getting a taxing. Every interaction seemed to require chasing up with staff. Didn’t spoil a special occasion but definitely didn’t add anything

Basically pleasant stay. The hotel is located in a pleasant environment. Visually interesting building with good finishing. Our room was very clean and for us (2 adults & 2 children) of the size scarce but sufficient. The room was equipped with the most necessary. Unfortunately, the toilet seat was not properly attached and slipped, but for 4 nights not too tragic. The bar was half staffed in the evening and it had plenty of staff, yet it took a good 40 minutes between ordering (2 cocktails, 1 Guinness, 1 soft drink) and serving. This is clearly too long. Also it was inexplicable for us why the Servierpersonsl constantly goes behind the bar, although this is the room of the bar staff. Otherwise, the hotel is recommended.

No air (which is not that uncommon) but the windows only open a few inches and they ran out of fans. It would seem to me that if you don't offer air conditioning, that you would make some provisions to properly cook the rooms with natural ventilation. A single tall fan near the window would have satisfied the need. Breakfast was good and the service was friendly.

The location is amazing, the building is beautiful. Front desk and the restaurant staff was very friendly and professional. Unfortunately the rooms are very old. Bathroom needs an immediate refurbish and the rooms much better cleaning. It's not acceptable to have random hair on your bed and dirt on the curtains.

We found the hotel to be very comfortable. That said, I'd also like to add that because one of the elevators was broken it was an awful inconvenience to have to wait a long time for the remaining elevator to arrive. Also, there was no business center, why is that? I've traveled for business and pleasure for more than 50 years and have never been in a major chain hotel that did not have a business center. In order to us a computer I had to walk a few blocks to the local library which had two public computers. You have very nice property, the breakfasts were very good, and the front desk staff were particularly helpful to us. The room rate was a bit high, but that's Europe. We had dinner in the hotel one night and the food was okay but overpriced, and the liquor was totally inadequate. I ordered a Scotch on the rocks and I could hardly see the liquor in the glass. Very cheap in my mind and we went elsewhere for dinners after that. All that said, I don't think that we will be staying a another Clayton Hotel in the future.

This is a 4☆ hotel, which I find very hard to believe. Absolutely beautiful on the outside, but in the rooms, not so much. We got in at 5:30 AM, and was assigned a room. No one helped with our luggage, and when we unlocked the door someone else was already in the room! We had to go back down to get another room. No apology from anyone about the inconvenience, just concern for the guest in the room. Took at least 10-15 minutes to finally get assigned another room. There is no a/c, and you can't open the windows due to health reasons??? Our room must've been about 75-80°F at all times. We were on a tour with CIE and didn't even look forward to going back to our room. Our tub didn't drain. Our travel agent sent us a bottle of wine and we had no idea it was from her because there was no note from the hotel. The housekeeping was fantastic though, so thank you for that!

Had a lovely stay at the hotel. When we arrived we received 2 keycards which meant we were able to split up as a group when doing activities. The beds were also very comfortable. The hotel is reachable by public transport (for which I recommend getting a leapcard). If you get off at The British Embassy stop, you get off right in front of the hotel.

Lovely hotel in a very nice part of Dublin. The staff that work there where exceptional especially Stephanie( working in the bar) and Shena ( working in the breakfast area - apologies if I have spelt her name incorrectly!) Both very patient and understanding of my daughter. Room Lovely ,clean and quiet. Many thanks Clayton Ballsbridge

As this was our second stay at the Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge we were upgraded to a top floor suite due to a slight mishap on our last visit, but this was because of the Covid-19 restrictions. I must say we both had a fantastic night sleep on both nights in our upgraded room, as the bed was so very comfortable. Best bed we have ever had the pleasure to sleep in from all our short stays at hotels in Ireland. Highly recommended.

My husband, daughter and I stayed one night at the Ballsbridge Clayton Hotel. The room was comfortable and spacious, as well as clean. My only concern was there was an open pack of sweets from a previous guest left in a drawer, as well as only 2 cups provided for teas/coffees when there was 3 of us. Would have liked more supplies for hot drinks as well, as we only had 4 tea bags in the caddy. Front Desk staff friendly and helpful. Overall a nice stay and well positioned for getting to American Embassy and city centre.

Some friends and I stayed in this hotel for a few nights and absolutely loved our time. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, providing extra towels and pillows when requested. They were nice when we checked in/out and helped when we needed to store our bags after check out. The room had enough storage and space for the 3 of us and a really pretty view. Lastly, it was obvious that Clayton Hotel has great efforts to keep their impact on the environment low. The room required the key card to be inserted for the lights to turn on! I would absolutely stay again.

Loved the Hotel, the only issue was we had to move rooms after our first night due to a broken radiator valve stuck on high. We were pleased to receive some free drinks and a free breakfast on our 2nd night. Staff were very friendly and thanks to Sebastian for sorting out new room and the kind girls on reception for our free breakfast. Would stay again.

After a long trip from coast to coast followed by a ferry crossing we arrived in Dublin around midnight. The reception was extremely friendly and we were in our room in no time. Room and shower were great.

Very expensive for what you get. At a glance it looks very nice, but much different to website imagery. We stayed for one night as we were attending a match, like many other people staying in the hotel at the same time. The reception staff weren’t attentive, and this was evident for other guests trying to check-in & check-out too. They weren’t overly welcoming and we felt as if they weren’t listening to the guests as everyone had to keep repeating themselves. We had free parking as part of our booking, but they tried to charge upon check-out, even after we had mentioned it. There was no record of our free parking on their system and we had to relocate the free parking voucher from Hotels.com to avail. We felt this was a big inconvenience. The room was satisfactory, but quite dated. The furniture, carpets and the drapery is in need for a replacement, lots of marks and stains. The only reason for a good room rating was the comfy bed. We ate dinner at the bar and this was a complete disappointment. (See Photos) The pizza was evidently frozen and overcooked. We ordered topped fries ‘Mozzarella, chorizo and ranch sauce”, which was nothing as as described in the menu and was like a cheap spray cheese(Definitely not a real cheese), with burnt pieces of so called ‘Chorizo’. The portion was also not acceptable for €6.

This is a high quality hotel with lots of staff who justify the price. Sandy Mount Station is less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Photos make it look like the hotel is set in a rural area - it's not. The hotel has ample parking of its own.

Dined at the hotel's Grandstand Bar & Restaurant-Lucas provided excellent service and the food was delicious. We had coffee earlier and the service was impeccable then as well. We had just arrived in from the US, so we were a tad travel weary and the restaurant was just what we needed.

Hotel is nice and amazing. Good ambience nice restaurant. They do not have a spa i requested where is Spa and they told me they do not have one and i can check for spa at intercontinental hotel for spa. Food was delicious and good seating 💺. The staff at restaurant was extremely slow for everything i had to wait and even when i requested description of few menu food as i am vegetarian waiter was not sure and came back to us after 10 mins with details. Was not expecting waiters to not have any knowledge of menu and superb slow service.

Good location. Service was not that great. It is definitely not a 4star hotel. The taps in the bathrooms were leaking which they did fix later. The parking isn’t free even if you have a room there which is very strange to me. Definitely not worth the price atleast for the family room.

Large hotel. Nice looking lounge and dining room. Reception very helpful. Not too far from the centre of Dublin. On a bus route and near the train station The only part of our visit we were not happy with was housekeeping. Beds were not made properly. Drink station was not replenished at all. Nightwear was found under the bed ! We were four ladies. Three night stay rooms 114 and 116. We did report our issues to reception and were offered complimentary breakfast for one! There are cobwebs on the lamps in reception. Even the card machines were dusty.

The Clayton Hotel Ballsbridge strikes you more as a collegiate ground than a hotel. It stands proud and proper maybe just a little more intimidating than inviting. But the staff stepped up to hospitalities calling and assured us that the building has welcoming intentions. I rather liked the place and found it to be an interesting visual vista that had my eyes darting along the impressive red stones. On our first night I guess I visited the bar after hours, maybe they had just closed up, I'm not sure. A bartender was tending to the bar and when I ordered a Boilermaker he said that they were closed. The same thing happened to me at the airport. I was surprised how difficult it was to get a drink in Ireland. In anguish I asked, "Who do I have to sleep with to get a drink in this country"? Recognizing a kindred spirit the bartender stepped up, apologized and dutifully placed a shot of Jameson and a pint of Guinness within my reach. A great topper after a long plane trip. The next morning we had breakfast in our room. I never adapted to the European practice of having beans for breakfast, so I told them no beans...maybe another boilermaker. I'd like to stay there again and Dublin has lots of lodging to choose from so that's saying plenty. Five Stars.

Enjoyed our stay in comfortable room. Problems with toilet blockage twice. Also small snack e.g biscuit for tea or coffee would be welcome. Request for smaller breakfast second morning was not welcomed and priced at 12 Euro each so we went elsewhere and enjoyed. Not necessary to replace towels daily, suggest guests place towels for replacement in bath. Exceptionally busy time at breakfast, maybe some booking needed.

Absolutely amazing place to eat and drink. The staff definitely make the experience even better. From Axel to Dahyana and absolutely everyone that I didn't get a to mention but know it's the whole team. Ye really make a great atmosphere and work so well together. You are all a credit to the Clayton Hotel franchise.

The hotel was certainly very nice, great restaurant, quiet and comfortable even with an international conference going on. But the reason I am writing this review is to commend Daniel Onofreiciuc and the other reception staff for helping my company ship our trade show display back to Canada. They went above and beyond to make sure we could take care of this important business before we moved on to another location. Life savers!! Thanks again for a wonderful stay and top-notch world class service.

The hotel has an amazing structure and the staff is absolutely perfect. But they can do better in the small details. No fridge in the room, no products in the bathroom (only toilet paper and liquid soap), no double sheets in the bed, not good pillows.

The staff were lovely but the hotel itself completely let us down. One lift in use in the whole hotel so it was a hike and a half to our room with all our belongings. There was mould on the seal around the windows in our room which didn’t give a 4 star hotel feel at all. The walls in the bathroom were filthy and the seal around they bath was abysmal. To make things worse we were woken at 7.30am in the morning with the loudest racket ever possibly due to renovation works going on in the hotel, which we weren’t made aware of prior to our trip or at check in. What was meant to be a nice trip away for me and my partner after finding out we were expecting, ended up in a trip that we couldn’t wait to get home from. Very let down and most likely will not stay again. Not worth the money we paid at all.

The hotel was nice and room clean. Best part was the welcome at reception was checked in by a lovely guy . Made conversation with me and made me feel very welcomed to the hotel . Very warm and friendly after getting off a long flight Will stay again for sure for that alone.

The hotel is very clean and the front desk staff are kind and wiling to help customers in their queries and request; especially Julio who shows excellent customer service. He is very helpful and willing to do an extra mile to assist us in finding great tours around the area.

Dropped in there to support them (as I live locally) with my Father for a bite of lunch. Staff were kids, seemed very untrained and there was a lot of standing around, - I had to ask for a menu, get up and get my own water & glasses from the counter (even though there were three 'assistants' standing behind same), - and then I had to go up to the counter again after five minutes to ask could I give them an order please? When I got the menu, - I requested 2 x BLTs & Soups, - and as i got a 'funny feeling, - I asked how long would they take? - I was told that there was only one chef on duty and I was looking at nothing less than 30 minutes but if I only wanted soup, - that would be much quicker. As I was hoping for a quick lunch, - we went for the soup offering. Very disappointed in the offering and service, - and despite being my nearest hospitality establishment, - I will be going elsewhere in future.

We just came back from staying at the Clayton for a week. The actual hotel was quite nice, quiet. Not far from town. The only problem was with one of the beds. It was on a slant, it felt as if you would roll off. We asked at the front desk numerous times to have it fixed but they never did. We had to put extra pillows and a blanket under the mattress to try to fix it. That made the bed very uncomfortable. For the price we paid to stay that was very disappointing. Not sure that we would risk staying there again when we return, unfortunately.

I stayed here with my husband for a night. We wanted to have a very relaxing evening. We went down to the bar & ended up staying for longer because the bar man made fabulous cocktails & our evening turned out very chilled & great fun. We were pleasantly surprised with his knowledge of drinks/cocktails, he was charming, helpful & very professional. Luca is a credit to the Clayton team.

The Clayton is an impressive hotel, nicely decorating with friendly and welcoming staff. The rooms are clean and well furnished and towels and sheets are fresh and spotless. Was disappointed with breakfast, we were late to it, but the buffet style cooked breakfast items were cold and greasy, the only real let-down to an otherwise impressive experience.

We had our wedding here and it was wonderful. We had a small wedding with less than 30 people. We held our ceremony on site too and the staff were nothing short of amazing. No one needed to look for help as someone was always near by, everything was done timely and efficiently. Every single one of my guests said the food was absolutely beautiful and the staff were all lovely and attentive. Although there was no air conditioning the Hotel supplied plenty of electric fans for the room which was brilliant as air conditioning is a fairly recent requirement here in Ireland. The room was spotless and there were lovely little personal touches all along the way which really did make it feel special. Not one of my guests had a complaint and nor did I or my husband. I would go further and say more but google keeps flagging my post as fake since it's so positive. I felt my day went very well and had the hotel not been so attentive it would have been so much more difficult.

We called in to see the wedding planner. Thomas Prior Hall was nice, but the reception areas were too public. While there we received a latte that was boiling hot and we had to pay an exorbitant parking fare for our 70 minute visit.

  • 3/5 Peter R. 2 years ago on Google
Breakfast was okay. The blanket on top of our bed was quite dirty. The shower button was leaking. Nothing terrible overall a nice hotel and friendly receptionist staff. When I requested an extra key card they gave me it no questions asked which was quick and convenient at the time however it made me question their level of security as I could have been anyone asking for a room key, to be given it straight away without verification to reception was a bit concerning. I didn’t even have to provide my room number.

This hotel is attractive on the outside, the conference room is characterful and the dining area/bar is open and airy, but that is the end of the positivity. Rooms were dull and dark, and the breakfast eggs smelt so bad I didnt even put them on my plate. Housekeeping opened my door at 8.45 (I was only staying one night so why did they need to enter before I had checked out?) and then when I was leaving 45 minutes later a group of 6 housekeeping staff were arguing loudly in the corridor. For €193 a night I would expect better

The rooms are very clean and well kept. The breakfast was great with ample options for everyone. The only issue I had was with the male concierge at the reception who was awfully rude. Other than that, everything was great! Even the pints of Guinness at the bar that we had were so good. Would like to visit again someday.

My company booked this hotel while I was looking for permanent accommodation so I wasn't sure what to expect. beautiful exterior for sure and the breakfast buffet is nice . But Old rooms, HORRIBLE cleaning services. Any modern appliances like minifridge or working hairdryer isn't to be found here. When I was sick of the lack of cleaning ( after requesting it 3 times personally at reception) I requested they put me in a new room, which was good on them, with old stains on the toilet seat and hairs on the bed. 😂 Maybe 1 night is enough to experience this hotel...

We stayed two nights in July and had two superior king rooms for our party. The building itself is beautiful and we were very happy with the location. The rooms were spacious but the windows didn't open well enough to allow air in. In one of our rooms two windows opened but in the other room, only one did. At check-in, we were not asked if we would like to leave a card on file for our stay. This resulted in the bar staff having to hover near us to be sure we didn't leave on our check and pay before we went back to our rooms. The first night when we went down for dinner we waited at the front station only to be told that the (then empty) dining room was booked but we could choose an outdoor table and someone would come by and help us there. Eventually someone came by but they warned us that we shouldn't expect to order more than one thing outside or it just wouldn't work. We left and had a lovely dinner down the street. Breakfast was nice but you'll finish eating before you get tea or coffee. There is no ice available on the floors except from the downstairs bar. No bottled water in rooms, no luggage racks in one of the rooms and the "extra towels" drawer was empty. Most disappointing was the mold in the shower grout. For a four star hotel and the prices we paid, the Clayton Hotel can certainly do better.

Have stayed at the hotel a number of times and have never been let down. Staff are extremely friendly, rooms are well cleaned and keep to the theme of the building tying in traditional and modern. During the recent storm there was whistling coming through the window in my room and could be heard in the next room too but it was extremely strong winds. I would highly recommend

My brother stayed there overnight and I went to meet him. He arrived at the hotel from the States and they accomodated him with a room at that hour of the morning which was very good of them. They allowed me to have breakfast with him in the restaurant and absolutely no rush to get us to leave. We were able to do some catching up as a result. I left a car down for him to travel around and they were very accommodating about that as well in reception A very positive experience all round.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was nice, not quite as "fancy" as I was expecting. We ate in the restaurant for breakfast twice and dinner twice. Servers were friendly, some were really good, breakfast was standard but lovely, appetizers at dinner (meat/cheese boards) were disappointing but the entrees were unreal delicious. I'd stay here again for sure.

One of few hotels we could find in Dublin with two beds. Great hotel for the money. Not quite comfortable walking distance to the things we wanted to see. Taxi each way to the castle was almost $20 so add $40 per night to your cost if you compare to a hotel within walking distance. The elevators did go out several times during our stay and the power went out for about 5 minutes. We also had to change rooms because the window didn't close. All of that said and we still left with a positive experience. The resturant was convenient and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend adding breakfast to your rate. It was a great value.

Lovely cozy hotel that has become our home. Very good breakfasts, fresh croissants cheered me up for the day. Smiling waiters are always ready to help. The room is clean and big. Pleased with a large bed and a good mattress. Hotel 40 minutes walk from the center and 15 minutes to the beautiful sea promenade. I really liked the area of the hotel. Recommend the hotel for a great time

My husband and I stayed 2 nights-- the property is absolutely gorgeous. The yard has lovely landscaping, a nice little garden, and the building itself is gorgeous. We were a bit early for the check-in so we had a huge, delicious lunch at the bar downstairs. Cozy seats, lovely staff. Our room needed a carpet shampoo but was clean. There was an impossibly large bird poo on the window so the view was... Messy, but otherwise, the space was clean, tidy, and the bed was comfortable. Full breakfast was incredible! Very diverse offering including hot and cold options and a really good oatmeal bar and tasty juices and infused water. Our favorite part of the stay was Lilly from downstairs! We saw her every day and she was always running around helping people and smiling. We'd come back just to see her!

Very nice and modern reception and dining area. Dinner was relatively basic in the restaurant, and service was relatively slow, however it was very busy! Rooms were very big in size but very dated with dark woods and what not. All in all, decent stay, lovely breakfast, just needs a little modernisation!

On the plus side: impressive building, nicely located, mostly v polite staff, so it’s no mistake to book there. But for that price, the downsides are substantial, too: -notoriously understaffed - waiting at reception may take ages, even without a bus load of tourists arriving. - the place needs a makeover, especially rooms and bathrooms. And: No sockets next to the bed is so last century The bar is nice, we never had dinner or breakfast. Stayed there three times, but will not come back - it’s mostly the waiting that is so annoying. And they know it, because you get spammed with check-in online or check-out online mails.

We stayed in Dublin for 5 days (holiday). We chose this hotel based on it's character and interesting history. The inside public areas are quite nice and modern. I liked the bar and public sitting areas. The room itself was comfortable but lacked in character compared to the photos we saw. Unfortunately, it was the reception staff that were a huge let down. They were really grumpy and unhelpful every day. When we checked out, they basically just said "Checking out? Is that it?" And it was quite clear that they didn't care about customer service at all. I used to work in hotel management and I understand how challenging it can be, but this was just slack. The breakfast restaurant staff were much more helpful. The hotel has easy access to public transport and you can walk to local pubs and restaurants.

The staff and room were excellent. The selection for breakfast was one of the best I have ever seen. The staff were so welcoming and helpful and even had our room ready for us early. Looking forward to my next stay.

nice rooms with good service but shocking options for anyone who is gluten free. they basically had no options for gluten free dinner even though on their website it says they have a wide variety of gluten free options. we had to ask the chef especially for any options as everything was labelled incorrectly and there were little to no options on the menu. they had good breakfast options though with gluten free toast. however their dinner availability was extremely poor if you are a ceoliac.

Enjoyed our Showcase stay this year. Good to have a bath, not a fan of wet rooms. Lovely clean and comfortable room. Tea and milk weren't replaced, not the end of the world but a cuppa is nice at night.
