Excellent! We visited it in one of the first days after reopening. The museum is wonderful, so many statues, mosaics, artifacts! The place itself is clean, completely renovated, added modern light systems - all like in the world's best museums. Definitely, this museum is the largest and most interesting in Alexandria. For English speaking cost is 300 egp, for Arabic speaking - 40 egp. There was a queue for about 15-20 minutes in the ticket office.

The poor Mininstry of Tourism closed the place for renovation, let me tell u something , am egyptian and am 33 years old and I just knew Bout this place, can u believe it ? Yes believe it because we dont value our country and our ancient treasures, places like this should be protected and left as it is, not renovate it, so sad to see egypt in such a mess because of bunch of idiots they dont know what they doing.

The museum was closed and there was a multitude of rubbish surrounding it. Don't waste your time going here as you will not find anything worth seeing.. not sure why it is not marked as being closed on Google yet.

It’s under renovation but unfortunately these data are not updated on Google Maps by authorities I read some reviews that it is closed for renovation dated 2 years ago so I never expected that it is still closed since then!! The constructions I saw there says it will remain closed for at least one more year! The star is only for that reason but sure as a museum it can be rated better than that after renovation Tip: You can visit the Alexandria Library museum instead and I promise to enjoy it more!

A wonderful museum, modern, spacious and full of interesting exhibits. Large area on several floors. There is also a cozy cafe in the courtyard. But unfortunately, the cafe did not have anything on the menu. An excellent place for an informative time with family.

Awesome place You will find pieces from different ages Greek, Roman and Coptic. You will feel that you taken in a tour in ages. Unique and beautiful pieces you never seen in any other place. I will share with you some of them, but I really have taken hundreds of photos that i can't upload. If you didn't visit it yet, you have to consider a visit soon.

I added this place to my favourite destinations in Alexanderia. If you're interested in history and art, you have to give this place a visit. I'm pretty sure you're gonna love it like I did. The place isn't fully opened yet, but the parts opened were enough to see how great this era was!!!! The lights were also really good and suitable for the statues. The ticket costs 40 L.E for Egyptians/ Arabs And 300 L.E for foreigners

Such a well thought out and curated museum. I expected it to be jam packed with artifacts but it was minimal, aesthetically pleasing and focused on a relatively small window of history. The displays were well lit, presented and informative. This place really stands out in a city like Alexandria.

The archaeological museum was inaugurated in 1895, it is located in Lazarita district in Alexandria downtown, nearly 700m from the sea and 900m from the train station. The museum is well known for its fine pieces dating from the Greco-Roman (Ptolemaic) era. It is newly reopened after major renovation, and a landmark in its place that is worth visiting.

A wonderful museum, starting from the well maintained plaza outside to the amazing exhibits inside. I never thought I can see this in Egypt. You can also enjoy a refreshment in queen court in the middle and it hosts events, i saw some people setting up speakers. I would have attended but im only in town for one day. Strongly recommended 👌

It is one of the most important landmarks of the city of Alexandria, it was officially opened in 1892 AD during the reign of Khedive Abbas Hilmi II, and the aim of constructing this museum was to preserve the monuments discovered in Alexandria. The museum initially included 11 halls and then followed the addition of the halls until the number after the development that took place in 1984 AD reached 27 halls in addition to the museum park. Most of the museum's holdings date back to the period between the third century BC to the third century AD, and include the Ptolemaic and Roman eras, as well as the Coptic era. The museum continued to perform its scientific, cultural and educational message to Egyptian and foreign visitors until the decision of the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities was issued in 2005 to close the museum for development, which began to be prepared for him to inventory all the museum's holdings and documentation, and to restore what needs to be restored from them before packaging and transfer to museum stores, as well Two sets of objects were loaned to the BA Antiquities Museum and the National Museum of Alexandria for temporary display. The Library of the Greco-Roman Museum is one of the most important libraries in Alexandria, as it is rich in many rare books, and it has been transferred to a hall in the Maritime Museum so that it will be available to students. In September 2010 AD, the original library ceiling for the second floor was removed as planned according to the new design of the building after the development, but the work was halted after the January 25, 2011 revolution, but this project is currently being resumed.

The entrance tickets are paid either cash or by card 40 EGP for egyptians and 300 EGP for foreigners, nice set up with lots to see but still needs to be filled with more items, power cuts at 16:00 for half an hour or so which are reerrected by gensets, a private tour guide would be recommended, underground parking area still under construction

Erected in 1892, it was first built in a five-room apartment, inside one small building on Rosetta Street (later Avenue Canope and now Horriya). In 1895, it was transferred to another, larger building near Gamal Abdul Nasser Street. The museum contains several pieces dating from the Greco-Roman (Ptolemaic) era in the 3rd century BC, such as a sculpture of Apis in black granite, the sacred bull of the Egyptians, mummies, sarcophagus, tapestries, and other objects offering a view of Greco-Roman civilization in contact with ancient Egypt. The museum's collection is the product of donations from wealthy Alexandrians as well as of excavations led by successive directors of the institution, both within the town and in its environs. Certain other objects have come from the Organization of Antiquities at Cairo (particularly those of the Pharaonic period) and from various digs undertaken at the beginning of the century in Fayoum and at Benhasa. Housed within a historic building whose beautiful neoclassical facade of six columns and pediment bears the large Greek inscription ‘MOYΣEION’ ("MOUSEION"). The museum consists of 27 halls and an attractive garden, which offer an excellent introduction to Egypt's Greco-Roman period. The museum has been closed for renovations since 2005.[1] As of June 2017, the building was still surrounded by scaffolding.

Such an amazing museum the whole experience is perfect from the beginning when u enter each era and find out everything about it, witch is all labelled and have a full description for it. The decorations and lighting is very important in such places witch they mastered. The only noticeable negative is they only accept visa so you cant buy ticket in cash

I totally liked the experience. I loved that the museum tells a story. The monuments pieces are in a certain order, not randomly placed. I went in without looking anything up, I wanted to experience it without any influence, yet I expect the museum to be from the point of the Roman/Greek, like in the Louver Museum. It was the Greek/Roman influenced by the Old Egyptian. It wasn't what I expected yet I totally enjoyed it.

We have to wait for 20 years to see this great museum once again. Whats a moment! Nice museum scenario, nice trip. Great trip. It still needs some work, as missing many labels for some pieces, and mis-locating some pieces. But generally, it is a great place to visit.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Alexandria Roman Museum, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience that left me in awe of the rich history of Ancient Rome. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was transported back in time to a world of architectural marvels, artistic masterpieces, and captivating stories.
