Severely underrated, superior food quality. Overall flavours are definitely authentic and the skills of the chef is demonstrated by the balanced texture, ratio of ingredients and overall complex flavour masked behind a modest presentation. Laksa is much better here than the crowded neighbour next door.

2024: Why wait in line for Laksa King, when you can get a better Laksa next door? (10% weekend surcharge, Liven pay 5%) ***** 2017: It's been a gruelling battle through the ages, but this place could be the real 'Laksa King'... *****

Good, spacious place to dine in with great selection of food choices. Always seem crowded all the time even during weekday. We tried this restaurant many times before and most of the times, the experiences are quite good. We also tried their brand in Deer Park too. Their mee goreng is definitely different at 2 places but still ok. Service was pretty good too.

Finally back! I prefer their laksa and fried rice to the rival next door.

Affordable and delicious Laksa! Very creamy yet doesn't feel overly heavy like some other ones. Super generous portion, they went to town on the chicken! Typically comes eggplant but removed at my request. They have a very lovely venue and wonderful service from the servers 😊 Will definitely be coming here again!

We ordered several dishes and drinks and we enjoyed most of them. However, the table they gave us was in the kitchenette. It was a bit awkward to eat where they bring dirty dishes from the other tables.

When Malaysian food is what you want than Chef Lagenda is where you wanna go! Visited over the weekend and was SO pleased by the food. We tried the traditional curry laksa & meal deal with Roasted Duck and BBQ Pork with chicken soup & egg noodles. Can't wait to return soon for more dishes!

Good place to eat. Nice food. The Fish fillet in fish fillet noodle soup dish is only boiled and taste dry not juicy. It's healthier way but I prefer deep fried to give more taste& different texture in the soup

Laksa here is just as good as laska king if not better but its far more comfortable dining here and you dont get rushed to leave. We also ordered the steamed chicken and it was mouthwateringly good 💯

Came here with friends on their recommendation, and it was OK. We came at lunch and it was a pretty loud dining experience. Lunch menu offered some economical options, so we opted for seafood laksa, chicken laksa, and sweet and sour pork. First the laksa. While the portion was good and it was tasty, the laksa itself had very little spice. I don't have laksa often, but I'd say it was a 3-4 out of 10. Flavourful, but not what I was expecting which was more of a 5-6 range of heat. The seafood laksa was LOADED with large prawns, scallops, octopus, etc and it was all cooked well and tasted yummy, but just not quite enough kick. Next the sweet and sour pork. The meat used in the cuts was very tough and chewy, and we ended up not eating alot of it. The sauce was fine, the issue was really just the meat. The dishes were cheap as it was lunch special so circa - $16 per dish, but I'd rather pay 20 and get some better meat or more heat in the laksa. Sorry no pics this time.

I've been coming here a lot. Generous portion, great customer service and delicious food! really love their vegetables and tofu stir fry. Price is also reasonable. Their special fried rice is my favourite. Best Malaysian restaurant in Melbourne imo

We came here as the restaurant next door was too crowded. Boy we were glad! This place is so underrated. Food was great, we tried their roti canai with curry chicken, beef sizzle, and fried rice. All good. The restaurant is clean and welcoming, much better than the restaurant next door.

Hadn't been in a few years and the vibe and atmosphere were still great however the taste quality for me was way under par. In particular, Tom Yum noodle soup was tomato dominant and panfried dumplings too oily and filling underwhelming. However the servings were generous and the laksas, stir fried beef udon noodles and scallops were all rated!

Update... After having laksa in many, many places around Melbourne I can safely say the seafood laksa in CL is THE BEST LAKSA YOU WILL FIND IN MELBOURNE, there, I said it! 😁😆 Jokes aside it's so good that it makes ordering laksa anywhere else a disappointing experience. Old review: I have tried a few dishes from the menu but my favourite in this style of Peranakan cuisine would have to be the seafood laksa... This is almost next door to Laksa King and apparently the chef is the ex head chef from there. The annoying part of both experiences would have to be cash payment but at least in Chef Lagenda you can pay with card for over $30. The waiting time for food maybe slightly longer than the other place but usually you can get a table quicker (so almost same same) check it out, it's a great feed...

Usually viewed as the alternative to Laksa King if the latter is full, Chef Lagenda holds its own ground in the flavour department with similar and unique menu items from the Malaysian kitchen. Some dishes tend to be a bit hit and miss though, like the samba seafood dish that looked the part but had zero saltiness to it.

Very average. Ordered through Uber and received a very bland chicken laksa that tasted like coconut milk, no spice or depth of flavour. It arrived with two small pieces of tofu and eggplant, no other veg. It did include plenty of chicken and the noodles were good.

Very authentic Malaysian food. Laksa is as good as laksa king next door. The three colour drink is not as good as from viet restaurants. Keen to come back and try other dishes.
