Coming from southern California, my partner and I we were uncertain about the quality of sushi we’d find in Oregon. We were proved so wrong. What a pleasant surprise! The sushi here is of excellent quality and so fresh. Also they’re very COVID friendly and hygienic. Menus are contactless and accessed through QR code. Silverware is brought separately, wrapped in paper towel packets. Everyone is asked to wear masks when not seated at their table. This was our first restaurant eating experience since the start of the pandemic. What a gentle introduction back to restaurant eating. And our server Max was attentive and very friendly. When the dishes arrived, he clearly explained what everything was. We had a wonderful experience here :)

One of the best sushi restaurants in Eugene that is also reasonably priced. I ordered the Crispy Rice, Sake Maki, Sake Toro ( so fatty just melts in your tongue ), and Creamy Scallop Hand Roll with a Thai Iced Tea. This will be one of my top sushi place! Seating was also super fast and the food came out quick too!

Went there for lunch. We were received promptly and seated. Friendly and kind staff. Everything is fresh and made to order. Tastes, lovely and very flavourful.

Great place to come for a mid-level dinner. Good variety of Japanese food with plenty of options. They also have good vegetarian options! There’s plenty of seating, so I’ve never needed to make a reservation. Keep in mind that the sushi rolls can take a while to come out, as they’re all made after you order.

Overall good service and pleasant atmosphere. The menu had a wide selection of fancy rolls to choose from. Orders came out as they were ready so everyone got their meals at different times but it came out fairly quickly so it wasn't too much of an issue. If you are in the neighborhood and looking for sushi Makoto fits the bill but I wouldn't make a special trip for it.

🐟 is fresh, sauce is good. The Sashimi dish here is $40, little pricey, but it tastes good. Staffs is friendly as well.

We were recommended by family to come here, so we came for dinner and checked the menu on the website. Prices seemed decent and the various items on the menu looked good. We went to the restaurant the prices were very different and it disappointed us greatly. The sushi rice was too sticky and too vinegary. The fish was not fresh and we didn’t enjoy our experience with the food.

The rice on Chirashi was super soft, not sushi rice. The grilled chicken was not grilled. It was fried, then put on teriyaki sauce. The surface of the chicken was too dry. Calamaris were Squid Feet, but very fresh! Unagi Don was delicious, although the rice was not sushi rice, either.

i made a reservation for this place. i then ubered and paid my uber fare to get here. i walked to the door, then i saw a handwritten note stating they we’re closed. i most definitely understand the labor shortage and respect it. however, no need to let me know that there’s a closure notice or no need to inform me that my reservation is closed due to closing of the restaurant? never going back, lack of respect

Best sushi of my life. We got the dragon roll, dynamite, rainbow roll, and the volcano roll which was by far my favorite. We completely devoured it all. I was tempted to lick the board it was that good. It was pricey but I can definitely see why now. I'm addicted.

Seems like they were a little under staff but overall everything was great! I took my mom there for her birthday absolutely loved it. Always have good experience there. The young lady that was our server were really polite. They knew we were waiting for awhile so they gave us a little salmon belly for appetizer! Food quality is great as always and it was a good experience. There were a lot of table for how many staff they have which is understandable on their pace. I would say this is one of the best sushi place in Eugene ❤️

Had a great time at Makoto. All of the food was fantastic. We had pork gyoza and takoyaki to start, both excellent! The salmon bento and yakisoba were great, and the miso soup was amazing. Service was friendly and attentive. Loved the atmosphere. We will be back!

Excellent food and great service with an extensive menu! Wait staff were very friendly and attentive. My wife ordered a sushi roll and said it was delicious, and I had the Tonkatsu ramen which was VERY tasty. Prices on par with what you’d expect, but very well worth it. We’ll definitely be coming back!

This is the third time I've eaten there and the worst. I had the sushi plate and the rice had an off taste with very thin slices of fish on the rice. Less fish costs less. My wife ordered a skewer of marinated chicken as well as tempura. It was over cooked and nearly impossible to get the pieces off the skewer. I finally had to use my fingers to pull them off. Previous times the food was quite good. I will think long and hard about returning for a fourth time.

Was very excited for this place but the food didn't live up to expectations. Conveyor belt sushi is just as good the mango salsa sushi used frozen Mano or something as the mangos had no taste. Everything was bland and meh tasting not worth the price. Also why bread the shrimp tails!? Will not go again. Appetizers came last even after being ordered 10 minutes prior to the rest.

Tasteful decor with nice lighting and gorgeous, live edge wood tables, excellent service, tasty food with nice presentation, and an extensive selection of drinks, including non-alcoholic options like cremosas, iced and hot teas, beers, sakes, and more. Perfect for both dates and large groups. We really enjoyed almost everything we ordered: agedashi tofu, crispy rice with salmon (even a seafood hater loved this so much they had seconds), chicken karaage, lion king roll, shiro roll, spicy chicken fried rice (another favorite of our group), veggie yakisoba (tasty sauce, fresh veggies, and al dente noodles), beef rib-eye teriyaki. We also liked the chicken wings (tender and flavorful, although we prefer dry wings to saucy, and they were too spicy for the teens in our group), crazy monkey roll, beef yakiudon, and tonkotsu with cheese. The only item we didn’t like was the mochi ice cream. The mochi part was a little crumbly instead of being smooth and slightly chewy. Shout out to Oliver for providing good recommendations, and being friendly and extremely patient with our chaotic group of 9.

This place has greatly improved since the last time I went here. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Love the monkey brain (not actually monkey brain)! If you love avocado and spicy tuna its a must try. The Double Double almost tasted like ceviche, it was an interesting but delicious roll, so good we grabbed a second one. Our server was attentive and friendly. She ensured our glasses of water were always filled. We had been going to Sushi Pure but I think we may be switching over to Makota after this last experience. Thank you!

MAKOTO is a lovely place for dinner. The atmosphere has a relaxed, warm vibe that makes it a great place for friends to meet. The waiter made sound recommendations from the sushi and saki menus. The food was delicious! The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Very nice!

Went here last week with my mom after a long day of moving out from UO dorms and it was fabulous! I got the yakisoba, which was amazing, and she got teriyaki (she says it's probably the best she's ever had). I can't wait to come back to try the sushi and other plates when I'm back in the fall!

Excellent food. Excellent service. I made a mistake with my order that was completely my fault and they immediately fixed it at no extra charge. The entire restaurant including the bathrooms was very clean. Some of the best Japanese food I’ve had in Oregon. Couldn’t recommend more. Would rate higher if I could.

Easily a 5 star place. The atmosphere , cleanliness and food is top tier. The sushi was fresh, the udon had so much flavor and the options were plentiful. I loved the presentation, but the taste was even better.
