The Ria Formosa lagoon is one of the 7 natural wonders of Portugal. The Ria Formosa nature park is a Ramsar wetland site. Dirt trails and an excellent broadwalk. Educational signs along the walk. Access to the beach. Worth a visit

It was a lovely walk with a defined path. The water mill was lovely as was the egrets nesting island tucked behind the Roman pools.I think the amount of birds and wildlife you see depends upon season and time of day

A beautiful park that's home to a huge variety of wildlife and has some of the best sunsets I've ever seen. Depending on the time of year the tide will usually be in during the morning, then out until the evening, so be careful not to get caught out walking in the marshes. Otherwise there are plenty of permanent paths so that you can walk around the little salt lakes and admire the wildlife. Look out for flamingos and other types of birds if you visit!

Don't feel there is an awful lot of wildlife to see in the summertime but cheap to go in at 2 euro 80. Park up at the side of the office, go in and pay and then the man lifts the barrier to get to the main car park. Good for a walk and I liked the tidal mill and views across the water.

Very nicely preserved place. Fresh air, lots of things to see, from plants to birds. Would be nice to enforce people respecting the rules of not walking on the dunes and not throwing trash. Very nice welcome also from the reception

Sehr schön ausgebauter Weg durch die Flora und Fauna. Leider haben wir nur viele Krebse und Weihe Vögel gesehen. War ein schöner Spaziergang ist aber sicher kein Must have Ausflug

This place is pure bliss. I don't know where to begin. First, the guy at the entrance is a kind and friendly person. 2,80 e entrance fee. The place is paradise. I'm typically not a chart reader but here every chart is a learning experience. I now know how to identify almond, olive and fig trees. I watched baby egrets in their nests during feeding times and spotted 4 different nests of different age babies. I can tell you how the bee orchids are pollinated and how the Moors irrigated their citrus trees, and how cereal was ground in a mill before industrialization. I can tell you of a poet who died during the Spanish flu and whose house is now an ecocenter. Ria Formosa also has a refuge for injured animals. The wildflowers are in bloom and so are the cacti in loud shades of yellow and orange. The reserve has a great, shaded picnic area. Come with your family. Come alone. But come. Spend the whole day. There's a delightful restaurant right across the street. Have their grilled fish. Forget this miserable pandemic for a day and rejoice. We're in Portugal!

Schöner Ort für Naturliebhaber. Park verlangt Eintritt, aber leider waren alle Ausstellungen und Informationseinrichtungen geschlossen, sehr Schade. Zudem lag sehr viel Abfall rum.

Perfect for a short trip in the nowhere of Faro next to the airport. We saw Flamingos and many crabs. I didn’t expect it to be so impressive

Really interesting natural park, go and see the crabs 'digged' into the sand, the birds, and the Roman remains. worth a few Euros for sure

It was spectacular we saw amazing wildlife such as: Flamingos, Chameleons, Spoonbills and Egrets! I recommend taking a picnic and binoculars on a hot day because you might want to sit and watch the nature go by while eating lunch. Definitely recommend! One issue is that it’s very close to Faro Airport which means your constantly disrupted by planes flying in (this is in season where the planes will be flying in and out if out of season you’ll probably have a better chance to see wildlife!

No clear instructions when you arrive, but once you arrive you have to park up next to the little building (office) before passing the barriers, honing buy tickets €2.80 and then the security guards opens the barriers so you can park in a designated area. I wonderful reserve, a bit rough looking once you go in but once you get to the ponds/ lakes/ marshes it’s beautiful, not a lot of wild life around apart from in the water but the wonderful the views the area has is most definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful area for bird watching. Each season has its own variety of birds to be spotted. Go along with a solar boat, the guide knows what birds can be expected to see.

Nice large area, full of vegetation. Not so many animals to see, yet it may depend on time of the day and weather.

It's a quiet, peaceful place during winter time. We visit to see the birds there. The numbers depends on the tide but there are usually plenty to see. A telescope would be useful.

Picturesque boardwalk trip by bike or foot. Cycle through the salt and water marsh. From Almincil...quinto do lago to almost Faro island, take in the fresh air and educational signage on route. Wonderful way to build up an appetite before a meal.

It's a nice natural area with lot of bird life. You can follow trail or dirt roads all around the airport from Faro city to Faro beach. Be care not to go too late as the is little or no light after sunset.

👍👍 Unlike the other city beaches, this is a lot more beautiful and easier to get to and simply relax. We had a great time reclining on the deck chairs. Cost 5€ each with covered rattan umbrella. It's on a island by itself that has one way in and out controlled by traffic lights. Though crowded we found...
