Great place for dinner and full bar. Specializing in New Orleans type food. Collard greens the best I have had in Michigan. Staff and patrons very friendly. The interior got a facelift. Outdoor patio is nice.

The food was amazing, my server was amazing he went above and beyond for me trying to figure out the perfect drink for me which I was very grateful for. On top of all of that I’m injured and use a walker and the owner or chef or manager I’m not quite sure which he was he re bagged all of my food and walked it out with me to my car which was behind the building a little ways away! I was unbelievably grateful I’ve never experienced such service and helpfulness in my life before. I would rate higher if I could. It was my first time here and I will definitely be back and I will tell everyone about this restaurant just amazing all the way around.

Absolute excellence, I can’t say enough how good the food was. I have been in Michigan for 5 years and this is the best restaurant I’ve had the pleasure to visit since moving. I had the catfish étouffée which was extremely crispy and seasoned perfectly. We asked what was popular and they offered “the taste of New Orleans” with a bit of everything which is not listed on the menu - highly recommend. It has jambalaya, red beans and rice, and creole sausage with slaw and was amazing. We also got the butter beans on the side - they are dripping with bacon and bacon fat, how can you beat that? We sat at the bar and never had to worry about service but they also weren’t hovering. I’ll be here very often from now on as the prices aren’t bad either. Two people, an appetizer, two entrees and four drinks ~$100. Seriously, please visit this place if you want to have one of the best meals in a long time. Only thing to note is that it’s not a huge restaurant, seats around 50 people max so you may have to wait for a table but I promise it’s so worth it.

Wildly impressed from my recent experience! I stopped in on a rainy day for some good, rib-sticking comfort food and I got exactly what I was looking for. Andrea was a phenomenal server who made me feel right at home. I was torn between gumbo and the shrimp bisque… ultimately went with gumbo, but she still brought me a lil sampler of the bisque! Both were delicious, and they do a mean blackened catfish po boy as well. Thanks again for your warm hospitality, Andrea! Can’t wait to stop in again!

2022 We had a very nice dinner, I was very predictable and ordered the salom. My wife got the special, mahi mahi with red skin potatoes. You will never go wrong with a special! Wonderful flavor all around. 2021 Post Covid-19 dinner, we are so happy to enjoy a great dinner. The bad is, we've lived in Ferndale for 30 plus years and this is the first time at Howe's Bayou. Looking forward to many more great meals. Great selection!

All star ratings are for the bathroom, not the establishment. I love Howe's! Great music! Good food, overall great vibe. That being said I felt like the bathroom was in their storage closet. It's down the hallway in the back which is lined with shelves of random stuff. 1 urinal, 1 stall, small and compact. Kinda dark. The bathroom could be a bit nicer, but for a quick number 1, it'll do.

The shrimp, chorizo pasta was good except the cornbread is bland it has no flavor. My waitress was not the best. I went in at about 500 it wasn't busy. I was sitting on the patio waiting to order., which I was given a menu & water. I waited over 20 minutes , finally I had to go in & get the waitress. She finally took my order. She brought my drink out in a dirty cup. I had to ask for my bill. I paid cash & She never came out to give me my change. She kept $1.89 , which I was going to give her a bigger tip. Even though her service was trash. I guess she decided that was all she was worth. More than likely i won't go back. Too bad the pasta is really good. I have frequented this place before & I've never had this experience before.

Hey so I did not want to cook today, so I took myself out for a bite to eat. I go to Howe’s Bayou and I should have just bit the bullet and cooked at home! I am angry because it was so nasty! The only 2 good things were the service . I believe his name was Drake, fast and attentive. Also the Calamari….this is where the good ended. I don’t know who told who that this is anything near Cajun or good. They must can not taste or do not know any better, I’m leaning on the latter. So my Order, Green leafy Salad ,Nasty, Mussel’s in Garlic sauce Nasty just lying in a thin watery broth with raw garlic and onion thrown in . The Mussel’s came with semi toasted cheese bread that was barely melted! The Cherry lemonade was bland and watery, I ordered some dirty rice to go thinking in dirty rice there may be redemption, however I was fooling myself. I sat down at home because I was still hungry ready to dig in and the first spoonful made me angry enough to write this review…can you say salt bucket? I spit it out and got to typing ewww, Never again will I step foot in to that barely a whisper “Cajun” restaurant.

The catfish etoufee was super tasty! And so was the Gruvi na beer! The cornbread was moist and the dirty rice was flavorful. The fried catfish was super crispy. The collard greens were super Smokey.

Love this place!! We stopped in for an appetizer and a couple of drinks before hitting a show in Ferndale. The service was excellent!! Kirk kept our drinks flowing and was there to get everything we needed. The oysters were top-notch, and the lobster bisque was creamy and flavorful. The voodoo shrimp were spicy and delicious! You can't go wrong with a side of dirty rice. They also sell the signsture hot sauces and they are a great staple to have in your fridge! We had to get a blackened chicken to take along with us for later. Yummy!

My experience was sort of a mixed bag. I ordered the chicken creole and while the food was delicious the rice was cold. The chicken I could tell was fresh because it was warm but the rice that came with the dish was cold. I don't think they have heat lamps for food in the back but I hope they invest in some. The gumbo ya ya soup smelled amazing and was very good. My boyfriend had a shrimp etoufee dish that was very delicious and we also ordered the voodoo shrimp for an app and that was the best part of the whole meal. I really liked the strawberry ale that I ordered. I liked the ambience and feel of the restaurant. It was very warm, even when we were seated by the door I did not feel cold and I usually get cold very easily. The service was good, i dont like to be bothered a lot during a meal. It was a great meal, just expected hot food. I hope they do get heat lamps, I think they'd have more positive reviews because of it.

It was really good food. This is probably my new favorite place to eat. Decent price drinks. The hurricane gets the job done. Jambalaya is spicy by my northern white dude standard but very tasty. Red beans and rice were great. The tomato sauce creole was super good. I also loved the fried oysters. The butter beans were amazing. I ate it before I took photos.

First time coming here and I was definitely most satisfied with the food. Our server was unsure about a lot of the drinks that this restaurant serves, we were looking for something non alcoholic but settled on a coke. The seating is so uncomfortable and narrow. Sitting directly next to the bar, with no other option besides sitting at the bar itself, the tables were for 2 people only and everyone has to walk behind you... It's not ideal. The chairs are very hard, hard on the back. I had the shrimp Po boy... Very very very good, fries were excellent..ranch was outstanding! I would come back for the food, takeout maybe.

One of the best dates we've had in years. Everything was amazing and fresh, I personally loved the calamari, potato chips, and catfish smothered in etouffee. My wife loved the tenderloin tips and the potato chips (seriously those chips are good). Our server was exceptional and should be giving classes on how to enhance a dining experience with his welcoming presence, knowledge of the menu, and attention to detail. Overall, I can't wait to come back. If I had constructive feedback, it would be that I didn't know they had oysters until half way through the meal! It could be my mistake, but I didn't see them on the menu. Note that we still ordered them once we saw someone else get them and they were fantastic. Loved the homemade hot sauces too!

Went here for lunch NYE. We lived in the south a few years ago and figured we would never have excellent Cajun. We saw this place as we were driving down Woodward and stopped on a whim. SO HAPPY we did. Food is excellent. Prices normal. Service phenomenal. Definitely will be back!

I visited today while at the Ferndale festival, dined in. I had the shrimp voodoo appetizer- excellent. But most of all, the staff there was so friendly and personable! I live in another city and I wish I could drop by more regularly! I highly recommend this place. Nice atmosphere, great cocktails! And not insanely overpriced.

Howe's Bayou is a Ferndale staple and the food is ALWAYS delicious! Consistently some of the tastiest Cajun dishes, and they've been getting it right for over 20 years. I have been a customer of theirs for all of that time! Amazing, welcoming atmosphere where everyone is a part of the family. Try the blackened voodoo chicken over the warm salad w/ plenty of voodoo sauce - you can't go wrong! ❤

This place is awesome. Great atmosphere, very friendly and attentive staff, and the food is out of this world. We had a little bit of everything, mussels, catfish, tenderloin tips, it was all so delicious.

We are always looking for good places to eat and this did not disappoint. Wife had Catfish, Greens and Mac n Cheese. I had the Red Beans and Rice. The food was well seasoned. Met who we think was the owner. Very hospitable and sociable. Only suggestion to complete the Louisian flare would be bringing in Chargrilled Oysters.

Very nice atmosphere. I had the shrimp and chorizo pasta it was delicious! The fried oysters were just ok and I had a dirty martini for the first time and not my favorite drink choice but that’s just me lol. the staff was friendly and I will definitely be back!

Consistently good and flavorful food that you don't find on many other menus in the area. Very comfortable place to spend time with friends. Mustard and cornmeal coated catfish lightly fried with dirty rice, cornbread and collared greens is my favorite. The vegetarian pasta is also quite good. Well appointed bar with skilled bartenders make this a great place for a drink even if you aren't getting a meal. When we went on a Friday nearly every table was full but thanks to a skilled wait and kitchen staff the tables turned regularly and we didn't wait long to be seated. Neither did we feel rushed while dining. A fun happy atmosphere being enjoyed by young couples, families with children, seniors, and larger parties. A great gathering place.

Went in 5 minutes before the kitchen closed on a Tuesday night and the place was crowded but I got a bowl of jambalaya and a frothy mug of ale at the bar. I met the owner and his sister and had a sweet time. He's been running the place for over 20 years. Really nice hospitality and great vibe. Can't wait to go back!
