Tismana Monastery is the oldest monastery on the present territory of Romania. This is a historical monument and houses the holy relics of St. Nicodemus from Tismana, a saint who helps many believers in need, the monarchal complex also includes the museum of the national banks of the treasury. In the surroundings there are two skete belonging to the monastery.

A very old Monastery. Many important people for our country visit, stayed this Monastery. During the war they deposit the tezaurus of Romanin bank there. If you want to stay for couple hours to find your inner peace is a must.

Nothing to see really, other than the paintings inside. In all fairness, 90% of it was being renovated, the museum was closed (i heard its cool) and if you buy anything there's no card payments or receipt... I mean its the church right? Perhaps it was not our day but we were genuinely dissapointed. Took 1 picture... Not sharing that 😁

A bit touristy, but still a lovely place

Not much to see, everything under construction. You are not allowed to take photos in the church.

Very cool, I recommend the visitors to see the cave where Romanias gold reserve was stored as well.

The monastery was open but there were renovations going on all around the building and we couldn't enjoy everything to the fullest

If you are traveling through the Jiu Valley don't miss it it's a beautiful mix of medieval monastic architecture (the small church) as well as recent one.

It is being renovated. And to me, it seems that it has lost a lot of it's charm.
