The shop owner was very nice. He helped us with some board games and was very fun to talk with. The place offers good drinks on an affordable budget (3-4 €). Lots of games, mainly in English so very friendly for international players. The games are new ( I was able to unbox Ticket to ride today) and very high quality. A unique experience in the town on a budget. Definitely recommends. Edit: I had an exchange with one of the shop policy the other day. Although I was in the wrong, the way the situation was handled left a bitter taste on my tongue. I wish I was treated with more tact and respect. Not the way to welcome old patron...

Here's a breakdown of my visit: Atmosphere: The café exudes a cozy and inviting atmosphere, adorned with board games lining the shelves, creating a perfect setting for an evening of gaming fun. The vibrant decor adds to the overall appeal, making it a welcoming space for friends and family. Gaming Fee: The concept of a gaming fee is interesting – you only pay if you plan to play. This allows non-gamers to enjoy snacks and drinks without an additional cost. The extensive board game collection, boasting 387 games, ensures there's something for everyone. Gaming Experience: The ordering process is smooth, with staff explaining the system, including the gaming fee. Eating outside food and drinks are prohibited, but with an extensive menu, there's little reason to bring your own. The staff's willingness to assist with game recommendations and tutorials enhances the overall experience. We played for 5-6 hours and enjoyed ourselves very much! Will be there again!

Such an amazing place -located right in the heart of Helsinki in a quiet and more than lovely backyard. Huge selection of boardgames, lovey staff, helpful customers, cheap prices, great background tavern / gamer music. Also quite enjoyed the outdoor area with a roof! 6/5 - will come again <3

Located in the very center of Helsinki, Cafe Boardgame offers a great selection of board games and a cozy place to play them at the very affordable prices. There is a bar and a snack menu to accompany a good play, and a friendly stuff who is always ready to help you out. My beloved treat is their milkshakes — brings back some childhood memories. Note that bringing your own food and drinks is strongly prohibited. And I would also recommend to always book a table (and maybe even a game in case you already know what you are going to play) beforehand as the weekends tend to be quite busy.

Amazing! Good snacks, own blend of coffee, large selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Most importantly though, they have a great selection of board games and a very polite and interactive staff.

Great selection of games plus very friendly and helpful service. They sell some snacks (also vegan) and drinks. I tried potion of healing cocktail and it was surprsingly good! They also host RPGs and I joined a D&D group for beginners via their Discord server. The GM (one of the owners) was really good – it was fun and fast dive into the world of D&D. Café Boardgame in overall has a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers. Highly recommended.

This place used to be great, was a bit cheaper but it's not the problem. There are cool upgrades to the place so the price change is justifiable. The problem is they are turning it to a money pit, taking revenue over customers' experience. We booked in advanced and we got a small coffee table which barely fits Tzolkin components, while others get big tables. Same price, different experience, not so fair. The old owner used to have cool outfit, and he came to greet players, sometimes teach us a few games. Back when the shop was just newly opened , it was "barebones" but I'd go to the shop everyday if I could back then, I'm not so sure anymore if you asked me now. What a shame

Amazing place to play some board games. Have a good selection of beers including their selfmade ones( i highly recommend them) and you only pay a small fee per person to play all the games they have.

We ran across this place while walking around Helsinki and decided to go in and grab a couple pints of cider before ordering. One person came out recommending the pizza, one lady helped us find the game exploding kittens and the really skinny guy behind the counter gave us menus. A quarter of the way through the ciders as we were setting up the game and waiting to order the skinny gent pops up and rather rudely tells my wife who is also Finnish, in Finnish and less perfect English that there are additional fees if we are gaming per person. The fees we wouldn't have had a problem with but we had already at the time we were going to order the pizza interacted several times with employees and no one said I thing. We put the game, finished our ciders and quietly left. One of the things I enjoy in the EU is all the fees being very open and upfront, and probably would have stayed and probably would have had fun if things had been different. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing, the pizza smelled okay, though I think the price for gaming might be somewhat included in the price of the food. The service failed on the night we visited and I felt as if assumptions had been made unfairly based on age. To clarify I game and sell antique and vintage games going back to beta MTG and the first sets of D&D, high priced food is necessary for gaming establishments where table turnover is slow, fees are normal and usually posted prominently and additionally collected up front. I felt that this could of been pleasant, enjoyable but ended up being a bit of a failed experience.

Mahtava, rento tunnelma ja laaja valikoima lauta- ja korttipelejä. Henkilökunta oli todella ystävällinen! Kannattaa varata pöytä varsinkin viikonloppuisin. Äänitaso voi nousta iltaisin, riippuen missä istuu, mikä voi haitata peleihin keskittymistä, mutta muutoin todella hyvä kokemus - tulen varmasti käymään uudelleen :)

As of today Café Boardgame serves pizza. Initially my expectations weren't very high, but they have genuinely surprised me with the quality of their pizza's. It's clear the owners have taken the pizza making very seriously and the pizzas are easily comparable to what you'd expect at an actual Italian restaurant. Looking forward to trying the other varieties on the menu!

Great place for those who love to play boardgames. A small place with a cozy feel though it sometimes feels a bit cramped. Take care to reserve a table well in advance as the place is usually pretty popular. The fee for playing the games is menial, but remember to take advantage of the discount you get when you order anything at all from the menu when paying the fee.

Great! But the staff seemed to be really busy, and I had to wait for my drink over 40minutes. So maybe get more staff for fridays?

Me and my friends stumbled upon this place by a complete accident and we're really glad that we did. The place is cozy, has fair prices for where it's located and the staff is super nice, willing to help you out with drink choices and rules/setting up of the games. Highly recommend the place, even just for drinks, but especially if you enjoy board games as the place has a pretty dang large selection of those. Definitely coming here again with some more friends.

Extremely cosy and welcoming board game cafe. Large selection of different games from short & simple to long & complex. The staff helps you with the rules, so it is a good place to try out new games. Drinks and food are decent as well.

Nice bar with a big selection of board games. When i visited there was an offer on beer and certain drinks. Unfortunately, wine price is normal Helsinki price, but good wine. The staff was very friendly and nice. It's the layout of the place that stops me from giving 5 stars. A bit small, old and kind of congested, but i would definitely go back.

Really fun evening with friendly helpful staff. Even if one drink was maybe not perfect I will comeback and recommend for everyone that is looking for a friendly environment with lots of laughs. Like, is there any other place in Finland where casual conversations sparks in the toilet?
