If the weather is not so good, you can go there with your children; you can observe many different reptiles and learn their names. Unfortunately information is only in Dutch. The tour lasts approximately 1 1/2 hours. Unfortunately I had to deduct two stars because, in my opinion, the keeping of the animals is not appropriate. The animals lie on smooth PVC floors, the plants in the enclosures are made of plastic and some are too small :( What's good is that the enclosures are being cleaned.

Easy to find. Right beside the Antwerp Central train station. Very spacious zoo with loads of interesting animals and sea creatures. The layout was is fantastic with nice garden landscapes. Myself and friends spent 4hours here and loved it, especially the aquarium and butterfly section. We had a lovely lunch inside a restaurant where the building have one side that was a clear window you can sit by and watch birds nearby. Food was nice and price was reasonable. I recommend to visit this place especially on Mondays where most exhibitions and galleries are closed. The entry ticket for the zoo is €28 but cheaper online if you know when you are going. Toilets here are clean. Gift-shop by the entrance/exit could have a bit more items associated with sea creatures. Very happy to have come and explore this zoo. There is even a few play/cave areas for the kids.

(Translated by Google) Far too many people after reservation. We just walked through most of the stays. Few stewards in the park, people who are literally panting in your neck. Not a nice experience (Original) Veel te veel volk na reservatie. What a strange building. Nice, but you never know where you are exactly. The animals are amazing but the space for them is quite small. The whole project is very important and positive. I would advise this for young people to see what humans can do to other species. In negative way for the reason most of the animals are there. And in positive way for the people of the iguana, who try to help and do their best for the animals.

Very nice, we were very surprised that this is more than a normal zoo and they help and rescue animals. Also a lot of informations about their environment and explained what humans do to animals. We can recommend a visit, it takes about 90 minutes to go through.

Thinking this will be a very short visit, with a 4 year old walking full speed from 1 reptile cage to the other. Guess what... We spend a hour in here, the zoo is huge and with a nice collection all kind of reptiles.

I would have liked to know upfront that this place actively advocates an anti-covid measurements policy. Iguana doesn't manage crowd control (eg. Reserve timeslots for visits), register visitors, doesn't offer hand sanitizer at the entrance or during visit (there is soap in the restrooms near the exit). Handrails (for the numerous stairs) felt sticky. At the exit there was a rack with pamphlets promoting anti covid policy viewpoints.

(Translated by Google) The animals had space. Many animals can discover even though they could hide. The buildings are old but beautiful.

(Translated by Google) Visited the museum just after the end of the summer vacation. There were still many people inside and I did not even see one measure taken because of the corona virus. Other visitors bumped into me. Then indicated to reception that this is a concern for me, as no one seems to stick to the 1.5 meter rule - and there are no disinfectants anywhere. The employee of the reception indicated that this was the most troubling himself, but that he could not do anything with it. Left the museum after five minutes, as did several other visitors who were also disappointed in this turn of events. Andere bezoekers kwamen tegen me aan staan.

(Translated by Google) Lots of animals and good information. Unfortunately, the building and the accommodations are in disrepair. I have been told that they mainly rely on donations and unfortunately there are too few. Other than that, a nice place to learn about the animals! (Translated by Google) The walk is beautiful with well-kept gardens. Being next to the station is a very good opportunity to see it, either upon arrival in Antwerp or if you have arrived early to take a train, it is an option to take advantage of the time. Cities always surprise for some reason. Not the best of conditions for the animals who were supposedly saved from worse conditions. Fake plants thru and thru. No water. Basement has a terrible stench.where are the purported animal activists. Get active! Building out of the 60s. Reminds me of my old university buildings.

The zoo was setup in a historical building. It hosts very interesting reptiles. Most of them looked quite happy in their houses (I am not sure how a reptile can look happy though) still it is sad to see them in captivity. The exception is the albino piton. It could not survive in wild nature so it is better for it to be kept there. There are also a few skeletons in the exhibition and the one belonged to a piton was really impressive. You cannot enter for free with your museum cards. Get ready to pay around 8 euros per person. There is a small discount for kids.

Basically a really great facility. Old or sick animals are taken in and cared for. The great little corridors and cellars and corners also make the whole thing pleasant. The staff are friendly and helpful and are happy to explain everything. The only thing that bothers me is the almost 100 percent artificial plants in the terrariums. Otherwise there would be 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit.

We visited the reptile house in Breda last year. Good to know about this one too! The collection of reptiles here is extensive, and we had a good time, especially since only four of us were there this afternoon. It was a great opportunity to take a close look at those reptiles.

If the weather is bad you can visit the zoo. The layout of the zoo is good. There are also many different animals and a lot to see. Unfortunately, some terrariums look pretty desolate. There are a lot of plastic plants and PVC flooring installed. The animals would certainly do well with larger terrariums or real plants etc.

Iguana Reptile Zoo is there already as long as I can remember. As a child I visited multiple times with my parents. It's always fun and fascinating to "search" for the animals in their enclosures when they are not directly visible.

This place is a wonderful addition to anyones day in Vlissingen. The animals are very well cared of and have big and beautiful habitats with everything the animal needs. The structure is remarkable, every habitat has been placed in the building in a clever way to still make sure the original features of the building are showing!

Amazing experience. Great variety of species, very educational exhibits. Nice mission of the place: caring for sick/injured (or preciously kept privately in captivity) animals.

  • 5/5 stephane “Noobody” p. 3 years ago on Google • 20 reviews
I was pleasantly surprised. The way the exhibits are integrated in the old architecture is quite unique. The backgrounds of the exhibits are mostly drawn by hand and they give of an wierd antique collector's vibe. The collection was very impressive. And the exhibits were in good condition. The place could use a bit of renovating. But Keep the style. There is potential. And the nursery was amazing. Very cool idea. Keep it up.

First of all, I think it's great that there are such rescue stations for reptiles etc. and hats off to the people who work there. BUT miles away from species-appropriate husbandry in places. PVC flooring and artificial plants have no place in such a therarium. There are definitely better options for hygienic conditions. I would like the animals to have a more beautiful, natural environment, but since many reviews have expressed the same criticism and it is still the case, it will probably stay that way. A PITY

If you like this kind of reptile, I highly recommend you to visit it. Unfortunately, we went to the museum late, it closed at 17.30, we only had about half an hour to enjoy it. I suggest you reserve an hour or two in this area. Tickets are 9.5 euro per adult.

  • 5/5 Debbie T. 5 months ago on Google • 9 reviews
Paid €9.50 for me and my 3 year old and it was well worth it. I have no idea its backstory but to me it seems like a creation from someone who is passionate about reptiles and has spent a very long time collecting cool reptile stuff and the animals themselves look very well cared for. The place seemed to go on and on with a new surprise every room. I did not expect to spend over an hour in there and was me rushing as we had somewhere else to be after.

  • 5/5 Dries V. 5 years ago on Google
This isn't really a zoo, more a rescue centre, were the injured animals that can't go back to the wild due to injuries or other problems stay. It's a really fun place to visit with tons of differents reptiles. Beside the amazing animals, the building itself is unique as well. It's 5 houses joined, and the exhibits are scattered around. It is not wheelchair friendly because of all the stairs though.

Also animals that have been put on the "street" by their owner. This Zoo is dependent on donors, very important to take care of these animals. Wonderful work that is being done here. (Translated by Google) As has already been said here, it is not a real zoo, but a sanctuary, but definitely something that I don't think you can experience a second time. Through narrow old corridors, which spread a certain shame and make the visit even more an experience, you can experience many different animals here, no matter whether large or small (and some of them are really huge animals that I have never seen before - Snakes, turtles etc.) animals. Sometimes even with a back story to read through. Further information, e.g. Where the animals come from (the giant turtle from a sailor, the giant python from a toilet in Maastricht or the crocodile from Germany from 2 ladies) are given by the friendly staff. 1 hour + you are quite busy here. Definitely suitable for young and old who want to experience something extraordinary. Unfortunately, I read on another page that some did not think the enclosures were good. In my opinion, this is not the case, because no normal person could build such enclosures in his apartment / house as can be found there. If I were a reptile, I would definitely want to live there and I say that as a great animal lover! Clear recommendation on my part! Klare Besuchsempfehlung meinerseits! :)

(Translated by Google) Wonderful initiative! Iguana is a shelter for reptiles, amphibians and arthropods. The government and private persons bring in animals that have been confiscated or are no longer wanted for whatever reason. Our goal is to bring all animals back into free nature. That is not always possible, we try to place them in nature reserves. We try to place the remaining animals in zoos and similar organizations. Then there are still many animals for which there is no destination, these are then continuously cared for in Iguana. To pay for the care of these animals, our exhibition has been compiled from a small part of this. Recommended! (Original) Prachtig initiatief! It is possible to drink coffee or have a drink in between. There were also toilets in between. (Translated by Google) Despite being quite small, this zoo is very nice! There are a lot of different animals in nice big pens. In my opinion, the entrance was good in relation to what you get in return. Definitely recommended!

(Translated by Google) A nice experience, here you can see reptiles and amphibians up close. The route leads you through several houses - it goes up several floors and down to the basement (many stairs: not suitable for wheelchairs or prams). Most of the animals that live here have been confiscated by customs. And so it is absolutely correct that the terrible reptile trade is pointed out in several places - sometimes with drastic pictures. We cannot confirm the negative criticism of some reviewers (no animal welfare etc.). But yes: the buildings are a bit older, it is very winding and the animals and enclosures smell a little. But that's the way it is. 9.50 admission per person (adult) is perfectly fine - the animals also want to be looked after.

Very beautiful zoo. The only thing I'm not so happy about is that you pay full price of 25€ but due to corona you can't visit the inside parts: monkeys, butterflies, reptiles, aquariums and more.. There should be a reduced price, however I give 5 stars, because I know it cost a money to care for those animals.

What's wonderful Zoo. Even with all the restrictions surrounding Covid-19, it was still a wonderful day. It's a beautiful Zoo, located directly adjacent to the Central Station in Antwerp, which you can reach with a special ticket including your train tickets and entrance to the Zoo. Very friendly staff, maintaining a spotless park with healthy and happy looking animals. Hope to visit again soon!

It is a very huge and well laid out zoo and has a great oceanarium !!! I felt some cages were small, though the animals are looked after well. As it is next to the train station, public transport is the best you can do. Totally worth a visit with kids and there are 3 playgrounds as well ! I was there in the summer of 2011...

Precio algo elevado.

Lots of different reptiles and other species. Very interesting to see some new ones. It is a pity that the description of the individual spezies (except their names) can only be read in dutch. Nevertheless, it was really nice to discover the terrariums, places of the animals etc. through the different rooms of the old buildings.

This was a very interesting "zoo" to visit and a lot of time was spent reading the information about the reptiles, where they are from and what this zoo does to save them. However, this is getting a lower rating because the living conditions of the reptiles are not ideal and there were plenty of flies and bugs flying around while trying to view the reptiles. I am sure continuous work and effort is being put in to the place and that upkeep cannot be cheap, but things such as having real plants in the exhibit and sod, grass, sand, etc. on the ground might make the reptiles more comfortable and would create a better experience for guests.

It’s a very well kept and interesting reptile zoo with a great variety of reptiles and interesting information. But most of all: It is actually an animal shelter and all animals who live there were rescued - including the alligator! Some of these poor creatures had to be rescued from terrible circumstances and now get the chance to live in this shelter where they receive the treatment for various diseases they acquired during captivity before. Not all animals are on display. The zoo has five quarantine stations for the really sick ones and the personnel takes great effort in getting them fit enough to release them back into the wild where they belong (including flights to tropical countries etc.). All together a great job for reptile preservation is being done here and we were pretty impressed. great place to visit with children, our six year old didn’t want to leave :)
