Interesting Cathedral in the mountain overlooking the Caribbean Sea and the capital Forte-de-France. Very peaceful.

Beautiful cathedral overlooking Forte De France and the Caribbean Sea! The drive up to the church is a bit harrowing as the roads are very narrow and the other drivers are a bit fast around the corners, so use extreme caution if you’re driving up there yourself. Keep in mind also that there is limited parking at the church as well.

This place looks like it used to be a must to visit once upon a time. A real gem that has been run down and now is in an awful condition... too bad

This is a beautiful Catholic Church on the Route de Balata on a mountain overlooking Fort de France Bay. The church sits adjacent to a convent and is surrounded by lush vegetation and the most magnificent and fragrant tropical flowers. If you are walking the countryside, traveling by car, or visiting the church on a guided tour bus, it is not only scenic it is an oasis of tranquility. You're able to sit and eat your packed lunch of the most delicious creole cuisine, take pictures of birds, flowers and of boats in the near Caribbean sea for hours, read a book, hear yourself think, or even venture into the church to sit in a wooden pew and pray or meditate. The beautiful rustic church edifice itself is in various stages of continuous repair, which gives the visitor a true feel of the age of the church and a wonderful connection to the local people who come regularly to worship. The church is abutted by its cemetery which is a haven of local genealogical history. If you visit Martinique, it is without equivocation a must see and a most magnificent destination.

Interesting "copy" of Sacre Coeur - we've been there too. It was sad to see the church in a rather bad state... needs renovation badly inside, and, yes, we made a donation to the fund. Hope to go back some day and see it done over. I'm not entirely sure I'd say it looks "just like" the Sacre Coeur in Paris, but the architectural style is there. Maybe not a duplicate but still well worth a visit, and I'd love to go back and hear some music there...

A very beautiful church, modelled after the Sacré Coeur in Paris. On your way to or from the Balata Gardens, it's also a must-visit!

Amazing Vista of Forte de France along with a mythical looking basilica when viewed from lower in the valley.

Very pretty old church. Not much glitz and glamor but that is not expected in a church in the Caribbean. Much more homey
