Overall: 5/5 experience! A MUST TRY. Very glad to have been invited out to a highly authentic Afghan restaurant. Entree (Pictured last) - Qoroutti. The soup was amazing, I think there's a few times in life I've stopped to say "wow I am really enjoying soup right now." This was one of those moments. The melting of nan as you take a sip was the cherry on top. The Qorma-e-Gosht (LAMB) is a must try. Brave diners should opt for at least a 7 (out of 10) spice level. The softness of the meat and perfect balance of spices leaves you wanting more. The dish is best enjoyed mixed with rice as it comes separate. Highly recommend the vegetarian dishes too, especially the Kabuli Palau. Only critiques: Cost of yoghurt served separately is pretty steep. Alcohol mixer is charged separately, which is a bit confusing (Don't think anyone drinks Gin straight these days). Regardless, 5/5 - A must have dining experience that supports the loveliest Afghani staff you will encounter.

Food was not too bad. Poor customer service . The atmosphere is really good. First of all, I was not talking about the food. I simply mentioned that the food was not too bad. The reason we brought our own food may be for another purpose, but it does not imply that your food was amazing. Secondly, your staff approached us and forcefully insisted on ordering a feast. You never mentioned anywhere that a group of seven people had to order a Feast. Isn't that unfair

Such beautiful food in a really nice setting.. We had the sizzling lamb, eggplant, dhal, naan, plus a few nibbles to start.. very satisfied and will be back.. We were here on a quiet weeknight.

Food is amayzing! Very tasty and delicious! Beef and chicken were cooked perfectly. The best afghan food that I have ever eaten! The atmosphere is also amazing. Relaxing with nice decorations. The could have played a nice relaxing afghan or persian music to increase the authenticity. Overall very good. Price: its $$$ but worth it! Parking: hard to find, but there is a paid in the street next to the restaurant! Service; Staff were friendly but were not great.dishes were brought into table one by one, and it took 5 min to bring the last one. They could have brought it all together. they took my knife but never give another one, had to take it from another table. Water finish many times but didnt give us another one unless we asked 2 time. They keep moving around the dishes. Our table was too small, however we asked and they gave us a bigger table. I am saying all of these to just let them know that these things are happening, in overall we were very satisfied! Specially with atmosphere and the food! Will be definitely back! So its a 4.5 * restaurant (service could be improved) but there is no 4.5 option, so I give 4. Its not a 5 stars restaurant.

Great atmosphere with lovely decor. Food was filled with flavour. Wonderful refreshing cherry and yoghurt drinks with hints of cardamom and mint. We're vegetarian and had a lot menu choices. Excellent friendly service.

Excellent experience on both visits so far! The food is delicious and the staff were so helpful and lovely. They even let us sit upstairs for our second visit, which is a gorgeous space with more traditional floor couches - super comfortable and great for the toddler we had with us.

Authentic delicious food, amazing flavours. However we were forgotten a little, 30 minutes before someone came back to our table to take our order, and left with dessert menu another 20 minutes until close to closure. But otherwise the meal was faultless, dessert incredible and the Afghan tea was so spiced it was unlike anything I've tasted. Would definitely be back.

This place is delightful! The food is delicious and the staff are lovely. Casually walking around Fitzroy, we happened into this cozy restaurant filled with a beautiful aroma and beautiful decor. The waitress helped us chose our meal and we were not disappointed.

Locals to Fitzroy we always walk down Brunswick St on the weekends to find our next dinner, tonight we came across the Afghan Gallery ..... quaint, quirky and cosy atmosphere with lots to look while your dining to photos, ornaments and middle Eastern decor. Wait staff were friendly and we decided to go with the Chefs Selection menu $69 per person and their home made Cherry & Mint juice 😋 All meals were served perfectly apart and were fresh beautifully cooked and the meat melted in our mouth, the serving portions were very generous and by the time we got to our main we were beyond full Thankyou for a beautiful night we will definitely be back

Beautiful vibe with very friendly staff. The owner and his niece provided great food item recommendations and where extremely kind hearted individuals who talked with my family and I, making the experience very wholesome and memorable if you are visiting Melbourne. Also the food is fantastic! Especially the potatoes, they are 10/10, highly recommended this place! Upstairs is also a sit on the floor traditional vibe… Im going up there next time! Can’t wait.

Incredibly lovely restaurant with delicious food located in the heart of Brunswick St, Fitzroy. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with well decorated tables and traditional art and cultural artifacts positioned around the room. Without a knowledge of Afghanistan food dishes, the menu is quite hard to order from, however they provide a feed me option as well. The food was on the more expensive side however it was worth it. It was filled spices and had great flavour. I have been twice and both times it has taken 30+ minutes for the food to come out. They also have an upstairs area filled with booths so if you planning on going with a group of people I recommend requesting a table there.

The mantu was sooo amazing! Enjoyed it so much. Even the kebabs were really yummy, and so in love with the beef curry thing which we ordered (don’t rmb the actual name of it but the beef was sooooo tender and melts in your mouth!) even the rice was amazing. Enjoyed everything!! So yummy. Last night was my second night there and it has always been good!!

Had mixed platter and was delicious. Especially chappali kabab is a must try. Not sure why they use take away boxes for dine in. Experience can definitely be improved if they use proper cutlery for dine in.

We tried their feed me menu and it was good. The kebabs were well done and tasty. Their main dishes were okay, everything tasted the same. I love the ambience and decor. The staff are friendly and take good care of their guests. My rating for food would be between a 3 and 4. I would rate their kebabs a 4.5 as they were flavourful.

Last night, my family and I dined at the Afghan Gallery in Fitzroy, excited for a memorable meal. However, our experience did not meet our expectations. Upon arrival, we were initially seated upstairs but were soon moved, which was a bit unsettling. The most significant issue was the service time and food temperature. We waited a considerable duration for our meals, and when they arrived, two dishes were merely at room temperature. This was particularly disappointing as it impacted the overall enjoyment of the food. We usually don't raise concerns, but we felt it necessary to inform the staff when paying the bill. We mentioned the lukewarm meals and the stone-cold serving of naan. My mother was so disheartened that she didn't eat her meal. The staff informed us that the restaurant only serves banquets on New Year's Eve, a detail we were not made aware of beforehand. To address our concerns, the lady at the counter kindly waived the public holiday surcharge. While we appreciate this gesture, it didn't quite compensate for the underwhelming dining experience we had

This is my new favourite restaurant! It was my second time going and it was just as good the second time. The atmosphere and vibe of the place is great, and the service is warm and friendly. The food...I could eat this all day every day and be happy. We got the set menu and it was so much food, we couldn't finish it (I had leftovers for lunch the next day and it was just as good as the night before). Excellent value for money. The highlights were the beef pastry and lamb curry for me. Cooked perfectly and the spices used are amazing. But honestly everything here is incredible, I have been telling everyone to go! Also BYO which is handy.

Average taste and quality against the high price of the food. Can’t get 4 star! Comparing to other Afghan restaurants with less prices didn’t meet expectations.

Very artistic and exotic interior design/decor, the food we had are amazing, full of flavour, always ask staff for opinion for the first try. The cocktails also my favourite with lemon, lime citrus flavour. The restaurant not big and not many tables either but busy with only one FOH staff. Be patient and enjoy the atmosphere.

Very nice decoration. Food was great and flavorsome especially spiced stew beef. We had chef's selection for entree to try few different things. The taste was nice but it wasn't warm, not cold though but I expected it to be warmer as it's deep fried and steamed. We didn't send it back because it's only one piece for each of us so we just finished it. Service wasn't great with the price they charged but I think because they were busy as well. By saying that, we would definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu.

Cannot fault this place. Grew up eating Afghan food at my childhood friend’s home and have been chasing that quality ever since. Stunning food and flavours and the serving sizes are ample. Worth every cent and I take every opportunity to eat there. A must experience.

All I can say is the worst service and the worst food. The manager started speaking native language stating to us to speak different language as there were customers behind us and that they will hear us ? When asked to compensate for the poor customer service, we got respond of “sorry we are under staffed due to public holiday”? Waste of $$ & time ! Save your money & go else where ! SHOCKING!!!!

Wow, what a surprise. We went here on our son’s recommendation and we were having our nephew and his wife joining us from NY. Not being too sure what was what, we decided to order the banquet meals. We had 1 vegetarian and one GF at the table and were quite surprised when we were offered additional menu items to suit both on top of catering for everyone else. The first items were a type of samosa and kebabs, which I have to say were outstanding. Then came the peas, potatoes, lamb and chicken dishes with fragrant rice. Each and every dish a taste treat sensation. Lamb that melts literally in your mouth with delicate seasoning, chicken that is unlike anything I have ever eaten, almost air like, again seasoned with herbs and spices. Then there’s the peas and potatoes.. I do have a passion for a spud and these were certainly up there, but the peas, oh those peas… I could eat them with every meal. If there’s anything negative, it’s the charge of $1 per container for any leftovers. Believe me, the $62 feed me menu was an over abundance and we walked away completely satiated and had enough food for 3 more people. Definitely going back!

Not bad. Not great either. Super slow service. It took 15 mins just to take our order, 30 mins to get the entrees and then another 1h15m to get our mains. Food was very salty. A bit on the pricey side. Also, we paid $14 for a glass of wine that costs $10 for a whole bottle at the local liquor store. All in all, not worth it. Wouldn’t go back.

Honestly, after 10 days in Melbourne we chanced upon this Fitzroy restaurant and it was the highlight of our dining experiences. From lovely atmosphere, fabulous service and divine food, we would have returned again but we were leaving the next day. What a treasure of a place. Highly highly recommend.

Came here with my girlfriend for a birthday dinner and got the second option for the feed me menu (forgot the name but was around 50pp) staff were very helpful as at first we planned on the more expensive one however they told us that that would be to much food, big props for the honesty there and not just trying to get us to spend money. Food ended up being fantastic, with a great selection and very fast service. Walked in starving and left absolutely stuffed with leftovers to take home. Great selection of drinks as well that are very fairly priced, got a bottle of Tempranillo that was delicious for $40 odd. Very highly recommend
