I normally avoid British style pubs abroad, but the Prince Albert is an exception worth making! I booked a few hours ahead to watch the Champions League football and they got me a great table with chairs pointed to one of the screen. But beyond the sport, the ambience is great, the ornaments draped across the pub are beautiful and interesting. They also have an excellent choice of world beers throwing in some local Madeiran and Portugal flavours. Best of all, the portions are large, tasty and great value for money. This might be the best pubs I’ve been to outside the UK, it’s certainly up there in the top 5!

Nice 'British' style pub with good ambience and attentive staff. Although we haven't eaten here, the menu offers a good range and what comes out of the kitchen looks good. Large drinks menu, lots of wines and great gins!

Busier than envisaged, but got a table. Service surprisingly fast as the pub/ restaurant was full. Had a starter and main course. Both well prepared and very tasty. A limited but concise menu, hence quick service yet quality service, in very comfortable surroundings. Three large televisions two showing the football, and the third music videos. Staff very friendly and professional, well done, considering the non-stop, work they were experiencing and still smiling. Would visit again without a doubt.

Nice friendly staff, but I have to warn you, portion sizes are huuuge Share it with someone if ordering for first time. Also mentioning time, service could be a little bit faster, but other than that, no complaints!

Friendly, professional service! Delicious food! The Burger was amongst the best I have ever had! Nice atmosphere and reasonable prices! There are dozens of restaurants around this area, and we went twice in one week, so that says it all!

We created a new burger because the cheese was on the wrong burger. Great food tho. Drink I ordered was not available so they got me another one without notifying me first. Unfortunately, I hate strawberry but they took it back and brought me a new one without any additional costs. Great place, great food.

Fast and friendly service, but that's only positive things I can mention regarding this pub. We ordered some beer which was ok and also pork ribs, calamari and battered shrimps. Pork ribs look simply disgusting, just bones and a lot of fat covered with BBQ sauce. They tasted just as they looked. Calamari rings were covered by thick layer of batter and were so dry so that we couldn't taste any calamari inside all this batter. Shrimps were ok. Food price wasn't high but it doesn't justify such low quality for sure. Don't recommend to go there.

We dined there last night. The service was lacking. Staff were officious in manner, no conversation or any attempt to make us feel good to be there. Our drinks were plonked in front of us without a word. The chicken skewers, whilst looking great, smelt and tasted of fish. The burger dishes on other tables looked great and very substantial. All in all, for us, not a great evening meal. The venue itself looked great but some staff training ( both front of house and in the kitchen) is needed.

This is our second visit to The Prince Albert, and I can't complain. Not because I'm British, and I like my Guinness. To be honest, in my opinion, the Guinness from my local is creamier and has a lovely liquorice after taste. However, the Guinness here has a nice head that follows down the glass. The poncha has a nice kick and sweet citrus aftertaste, and the cocktails are not watered down as the ones I have had in some places around the UK. I have conquered my fear of sardines today. It was just amazing. I had both sardines and mackerel, and I loved it. Flacky, soft, yummy fish. If you are in Funchal, I will recommend that you try the food here. If you are unsure, just ask Nuno, and he will help you. I know where I'm having dinner tomorrow! Do you? Just had my 3rd visit and had the steak strip. OMG... it was so good. The portion is big. The other half had the prawn and avocado salad. He was really quiet during dinner. Honestly, guys, you need to give it a try. The beef was tender and pink in the middle. The mushroom sauce is just the best. Dunked my chips , meat, and onion ring in it. Love the place, the people, and the atmosphere. I would come back, but holidays coming to an end..😔

This was such a disappointment, mainly for the unsatisfactory food. The fish in the fish and chips were three tiny, salty pieces not battered the British way (this place tries to be British, hence the name). The mushy peas were actually tinned peas beaten with a fork, and the sticky toffee pudding was like a dried out bog mummy that had been given a teaspoon of its juice back. Even the Coral beer was wrong, too sour (I’ve been here in Funchal for two weeks, eating at different places, so I know what Coral should taste like). I don’t know why this place has such good reviews. I can only assume it’s under new management or has a new cook.

Great food and drinks. Music is great and staff very attentive and friendly. Not a typical UK pub overseas type place.

After 13 days of vacation on Madeira, this is one of the nicest places I've been to, with the sweetest, most charming service I've met all over the island. Excellent dished at great prices. A very good poncha. Stunning desserts. Interesting beers and cheap, fantastic cocktails. This is way more than just a pub, it's a super cozy, lovely place you wanna spend your first and last evening of your vacation in.

Called in for a meal thinking traditional English pub grub but I have to admit it was a wonderful delight to find good food, good traditional atmosphere and very reasonable prices. I don't have any problem with my recommendations for this pub both as for drinks or food, I for one will certainly be back

Fun little English pub showing sports. It's nicely decorated with excellent service. We only stopped for a drink so not sure what the food is like.

A very good English pub. Large selection of drinks. Fast service. A few TVs showing football of course. Large portions, you won’t leave hungry after eating in here. Appealing deco inside.

We went here for cocktails on Friday and service was good so we decided to return for my birthday meal yesterday. I can't fault the food and drinks, they were lovely. We decided to have more drinks and a dessert then we waited........and waited.......and waited. The 2 waiters were obviously busy but never looked in our direction despite frantic hand waving. I had to go to the bar to ask for the bill, we then waited a further 10 minutes and again I had to force the barman to take payment. I told him we would have stayed if the service had been better but he didn't look interested. Everyone else seems to love this place so maybe we were just unlucky?

Don't normally go to English pubs abroad because I feel their tacky and full of Brits ,How wrong was I ,the decor was good ,nice and clean inside and a mixture of Brits and locals.looking at the menu I saw the steak pie was £16 ,I was a bit shocked but ordered anyway, pies can be hit and miss in my opinion, when it arrived with chips and salad it looked good,it wasn't good it was amazing totally full of meat not 1 piece of fat ,chips were good but already salted I'm not a salt person,my wife said her meal was amazing too ,beer was same price as everywhere

Nice pub in the center of Funchal with a variety of local and international spirits.

Awful experience, would not go back. First impression was it was a lovely pub and nicely decorated. We ordered a meal for two, all was good. After a wait of nearly an hour a member of staff asked what we had ordered and was told it 'wasn't on the computer' and he asked if we wanted to place the order again, we decided not to. There was little form of an apology so we paid for our drinks and left. It felt like it didn't matter that a mistake had been made. I appreciate that the pub was busy and expected to wait a little while, but not wait as long as we did and then be told we would have to order it again.

Cracking pub - couldn't resist calling in here on our first night in Funchal. Treated myself to a Manhattan which was made really well. The inside of the pub was very well laid out and had a nice ambience to it. The staff were friendly and chatty.

Great atmosphere, good food, high prices. Noise level gets a bit high with customers plus music, so hard to have conversation. Drinks are fun but pricey

Nice old English pub. Nice environment. Nice food. Good drinks. One of the good places to go in Funchal. It is close to casino.

As Alan stated in his earlier review, " Great burgers" and on that comment we visited the Prince Albert! Very busy on arrival with only a couple of tables left (Sunday at 7pm). Sat ourselves down as the 2 waitresses were running round non stop! Ordered the burger's which came with fries, slaw, mayo and Tommy sauce. Couldn't really ask for more. Decor is nice. TV,s everywhere showing sports. Whilst I didn't try the Guinness this is a nice Irish pub with some atmosphere.

Amazing food and very generous portions. I can eat a small mountain and I left there stuffed. Glad I didnt have a starter and no room for pudding. Really good value for three of us with drinks.

I just popped in for a beer… and stayed for three as they were so nice and cold and the service was wonderful!! Honestly, I found it a bit pricey for cocktails but the ambience is fantastic so it made it worth it. I had already had dinner so didn’t eat, but everything coming out around me smelled wonderful and was being enjoyed by other diners.

👍 Fun location on the Lido Promenade for tasty pizza and salad. Since we'd already had drinks at lunch and an afternoon cocktail, we chose bottles of water with our meal.
