Just what you expect a Belgium pub to look like, very quirky inside as your eyes take in the assortment of brewing and drinking paraphernalia stuck to almost every surface. A good selection of beers. It has been called a tourist trap, but there were a few locals in during our visit. I managed to tick off several Belgium beers that were on my list (1001 beers you must try before you die) and ended up with a local dark beer in a tall glass, it was roughly €10 for the beer, they take a shoe/boot as a deposit for the glass, which they place in a wire basket and hoist it up to the ceiling. This is not because it stops you walking off with the glass, but because it would cost you €90 if you break the glass and you can't run off without paying.

This time I sat outside to enjoy the sun and the square - a great space to soak up the ambience! Service was efficient but could have been a little more cheerful! We all have bad days I suppose. I'll be back next time I visit Gent!

This pub is a must visit. Very nice and traditional location and extensive choice of beers. Perfect place to enjoy a local beer at any time during your visit in Ghent.

Tourist rip off trap selling expensive beers for people who want to drink beer out of silly glass with 1 shoe on and think that it's clever. I can't imagine the local people doing that. Better bar is the Trollkelder around the corner by the church

The beer at this place is endless, the Options they have are outstanding and legitimately affordable in quality. Could go here every day for a whole year and still not have tried all their beer. Staff are very friendly and helpful in choosing a beer.

Crazy party atmosphere on a Friday night, this isn't for everyone. Prepare to wait forever to get service, but very good beer list. If rowdy crowds aren't your thing, I suggest going at quieter times. But if you're here to have a blast you can't go wrong. They might even sign you happy birthday when you walk in.

Order the largest beer they have and give them your shoe/boot as collateral! You'll get to watch it be put in the basket, then raised up to the ceiling. They do this to prevent us crazies from stealing their glassware and it's genius! Must try as it's a wonderful bar and experience, not to mention beautifully decorated!

this bar is a gem in the heart of the city, located right on the historic Vrijdagmarkt square. With a cozy and very traditional atmosphere, it is an unmissable spot when visiting the city. The beer menu is really extensive, especially highlighting the Max van het Huis, a local beer served in a 1.2-liter glass, for which a shoe must be pledged.

Great spot with excellent choices on draught and in bottles. Very reasonable prices (€5 or less a beer). There's a great buzz in the bar. They do a special 1.2litre of beer where you give your shoe as deposit for the glass.

Beer,Beer. Man o man. There are so many beers on the menu and one could get lost in fun trying them . Such a wonderful place with nice ambience. There are restrooms on second floor with some stairs. All in all i would say dont miss this place if you are in Ghent and you will have some fund for sure. Dont forget to put your shoe on the roof :)

It is a nice experience to visit this place, we had a great time there. It is a thematic place and with a funny tradition. When a customer wants a beer with special bottle, the waiter ask for one the customer shoe to avoid the customer steal de bottle due is a expensive bottle.

Good traditional Belgian bar with a massive selection of beers. It can get quite busy as it's located by the big market square and it feels perhaps a bit touristy. But if you don't mind the crowd this is a nice place to hang out for a beer or two.

Authentic bar in the old town of Gent with own brewed beer and a 1.2l glass of beer but you have to leave one of your shoes as a fund. As good they just provide cheese and salami

I kept hearing about this place where if u order this large drink with a glass that’s blown that costs $90 to replace they keep ur shoe til your done with it and return it. Well it’s funny to watch in person the bartender stated usually people just pay the $90 if they break it especially it’s it’s raining out like today

I had a great time at Dulle Griet Bar! It can get crowded, but the wait for a table is usually not too long, and the cool decorations and vibes make it worth it. With 500 types of Belgian crafted beers, there's something for every beer lover. Don't forget, if you order the 1.2L yard glass, you'll need to give your shoe as a deposit and finish the beer to get it back – a unique experience! It's a perfect spot for socializing, with people enjoying card games and board games, while my friend and I played "Never Have I Ever." The yard beer costs around €10.70, and other beers range from €3.60 to €6. They also have a variety of artisanal bierpatés. Cheers to a memorable visit! 🍻

Huge variety of beers. Interesting deposit system for the 1.2lt beer glasses where you need to give a shoe. Nothing to eat though, not expecting a kitchen per se but would have been nice to have some snacks. The music is great! Not super noisy so you can still enjoy a conversation with some good songs behind. The terrace is great too but I highly recommend having a drink inside too as the atmosphere is completely different. The service is not too slow, but almost!

Great Bar, Great Beers. The selection of 500 isn’t an understatement. It’s amazing, lovely people there. Not heavy expensive. Staff could be a little more „buzzing“ but hey i don’t wanna rush anybody. At the end great experience. We gonna be there again.
