Sam's Batik house has an extensive inventory of all kinds of clothing and fabrics. This place is not a tourist shop with cheap batik sarongs and hippie/beach clothes - it is the real deal with high quality clothes and home goods. The proprietor and his family are super friendly and will spend the time needed to make sure you find just the right items. I got clothes for myself, my husband and my nieces and also some scarves and batik sarongs. Additionally, I collect hand-block printed fabric and ikat fabric and they have a great selection of both that they sell by the yard. I now have some new fabrics to make curtains and bedspreads for my home. So very grateful I found this oasis of fabric excellence in bustling Georgetown!

I had the pleasure of being taken to Sam's by someone who frequents his establishment everytime they are in Penang. Sam's range is brilliant, he's an absolute gentleman, and I wouldn't buy Batik anywhere else. A must visit in Georgetown, I've been there twice just this week.

Bought a few batik sarongs for our daughters and granddaughter. The selection is huge. There are other mostly local customers on site. That's a good sign . Prices are negotiable. We would shop there again.

This shop has quiet a variety. We bought several items. But upon getting them.home I found my skirt to have a torn lining and dirt stain. So be warned, check your garments.

We had the most wonderful shopping experience with Michael and Rachel's family. Complimentary in-house tailoring service done immediately for us. My husband ordered custom linen and silk shirts, which were made within a day, and also given final tailoring to confirm the fit. I bought several dresses and blouses and will certainly be ordering more from them in the future! I would give them more stars if possible ⭐

name is misleading- there's almost zero batik sold here. it's 99% indian stuff from alibaba. i (read in mom voice) *don't know HOW* they made it into the lonely planet guidebook. some is decent quality, but most is junk, so it's hard to see the good stuff. they charge a crazy premium for anything decent quality- a standard retail markup is x2.3, but they're quoting x3.5 -x6 on a lot of stuff. it still might be worth it, especially if you're a hard bargainer- after all, we don't have to buy 30 of every quilt or dress and sit on it, they do- but more than anything else it's just a distraction. i'm in malaysia and want to buy handmade malaysian batik, 'sam's batik house since 1982' seems like it *should* be that, but it certainly isn't. and no, i'm absolutely not confusing it with sam's collection. sam and co- if you have handmade malaysian batik hiding somewhere in there, display it much more prominently, because i couldn't see it.

We love this place, it's a must go everytime we're in Penang! They have great stuff from tops to tablecloths but most importantly, their customer service is the best. Michael and Rachel are the friendliest owners and they always make us feel so welcomed! On top of that, they also have the most helpful employees who help you through and through. We always love coming to Sam's Batik House and will continue to do so in all of our Penang trips. Highly recommended!

It was very difficult to walk around and see the products. One of the shopkeepers stick with you and keeps following you whole the time. Which makes you feel too much pressure to buy something and to decide quickly. Also some of the products had some defect, make sure to check them well before buying.

An absolutely wonderful family run business! They are such wonderful hosts. Ended up quite happily spending most of my holiday money for Penang here with beautifully taylor-made shirts, cushion covers, and blankets. Highly reccomend!!

This is my “go to” place for unique Indian-inspired, colourful clothing any time I find myself in Penang. Malcolm and Rachel are wonderful hosts, offering advice (sometimes chai!), and a service that allows for instant alterations. No other clothing store on the island beats them, for service and quality, in my opinion.

I found the shirt that I've been looking for here with the help of the firendly staff. They brough me all of the pattern for my size. The price is quite reaseonalble that I took 2 home, bought one more one the way out because the design was beautiful. This is place where people should come to buy souviner for fiends or family.

So happy to have found this place as I was looking for a gorgeous bedspread. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The range of stock is huge and the staff very patiently spent time with us going thru the options. Well worth a visit, the nicest range of clothing, bedding and household linens I have seen in Penang. Loved this shop so much I may just have to make another visit before we leave.
