It is so cool that people actually live in the top section of this ancient city gate (built 1595-1597). I saw the elderly gentleman tending to his 'elevated terrace'. The old city ramparts are really nice to walk over, too, with lots of green landscape and expansive views over the river.

We came across this little gem of an area of Gorinchem while doing the VVV self guided city walk. It is beautiful and just invited you to want to stroll along the river. The windmill was open for exploration (it was the national windmill day that day) and beer was served on the grass around it.

Historically significant. Survived many years of both good and bad times. The building has been preserved well and still, together with a nearby windmill, is a real landmark. Take a historical tour through the city and learn about old myths, painful and beautiful stories.

Amazing place, open for visitors, without tickets! But I recommend to leave a fee, the place is worth it.
