As
I
stepped
down
from
the
train
in
Grenoble
without
hotel
booking,
I
started
looking
around
for
convenient
accommodation
when
immediately
Suisse
et
Bordeaux
attracted
my
attention.
Conveniently
located
just
steps
away
from
the
train
station
at
the
corner
between
Place
de
la
Gare
and
Rue
Felix
Viallet,
it
occupies
a
grand
edifice
decorated
with
rows
of
wrought-iron
balconies
and
typical
Grenoble
architecture.
Once
inside,
I
found
myself
in
an
equally
grand
hallway
kitted
out
with
cosy
sofas
and
armchairs.
I
was
given
a
warm
welcome
by
the
friendly
lady
owner
who
was
at
that
time
fully
engaged
in
auditing
the
hotel’s
ledger.
The
few
English
words
she
could
utter
had
a
typical
French
accent
but
being
the
words
she
repeated
so
often,
they
were
reasonably
understandable.
“Soixante
Euro
pour
une
chambre
double”
she
echoed
in
French.
The
elevator
deposited
me
on
the
third
floor,
right
on
a
long
poorly-lit
passageway
that
led
to
the
rooms.
I
was
fortunate
to
get
one
of
the
five
corner
doubles,
a
spacious
asymmetrical
room
with
a
new
shining
bathroom
and
an
unforgettable
mountain
view
from
the
balcony.
The
Alsace
tram
line,
used
by
Grenoble
residents
to
cross
from
one
end
of
the
city
to
the
other
is
conveniently
located
steps
away
from
the
hotel’s
entrance.
The
trams
are
fully
electric
and
noiseless.
The
double-glazed
apertures,
in
addition
would
definitely
prevent
any
other
outside
noise
(including
the
noises
from
the
adjacent
train
station)
from
entering
the
room.
The
breakfast
room
on
the
ground
floor
is
located
right
behind
the
hallway.
The
buffet
breakfast
was
good
but
not
extravagant.
A
choice
of
cereals,
cold
cuts
and
cheeses
were
available.
Fresh
baguettes,
fruit
juices
and
slices
of
cake
were
abundant
daily.
