I am not catholic, so my opinion comes from the perspective of a tourist who enjoys beautiful art and architecture, not from a religious point of view. I visited the cathedral in mid September on the weekend off Mexican Independence Day. The cathedral was open, with people walking through taking photographs, etc. They have beautiful works of sacred art, plus religious relics from saints and people who were important to the history of the Catholic Church in Guadalajara. Small catacombs were open to the public also. Beautiful fountains, flowering trees, and carriage rides right outside the cathedral. Government buildings are nearby as well, and shopping is within walking distance. The park like atmosphere of the grounds outside the church makes it a beautiful place to spend the day with family and friends.

A beautiful cathedral surrounded by walking areas (plazas). There is a big fountain in front of it. Inside the light creates beautiful effects. Take the time to walk all around and inside. Built between 1571-1618. There is a constant flow of people and corridors are wide with lots of sitting spaces.

A must see for anyone who loves and travels to Mexico. Guadalajara is an amazing city. We ate at La Chata afterwards and I highly recommend that. It’s two blocks from the cathedral.

La Catedral de Guadalajara is really nice. We went on a special event where they had lights and shows surrounding the area. The music and social event made the place super special. It is truly amazing piece of architecture.

The buildings architecture in Mexico are beautiful! Another example of a beautiful built Church. There are a lot of great sites close by. Close to this location you are able to take a bus tour to get to know the city better. Well worth the $150 pesos

Beautiful old Building. It is wonderful to see the history of the area. It still is amazing how people built those things without modern equipment. It was nice to have a local explain all of the buildings history to me. I have been there probably 10 times already. I'm sure I will be back. It is also close to San Juan De Dios for some great shopping!

Update from my last visit in 2016- the original body of the girl has since been moved and is now a doll when we went this year 2021 If open you can walk around and look inside. It’s kinda Creepy to be honest w the preserved body of the girl there. I never thought I would see her up close but there she was. Plenty to look around at. I had a chance to see it few time during my stay as my mother in law had her wedding here. I felt like I hardly paying attention to the ceremony lol and was in awe looking at the ceilings with all its detail. Worth a quick peek

It's a one of the biggest and oldest cathedral in Guadalajara. Beautiful construction and historical place. Many shops nearby as well for food and souvenirs. Many nearby places to visit from here. Visited during monsoon season and wedding was going on. As the area goes silent in the evening and less safe, it's better to leave by 7-7.30 pm. Difficult to find cabs in the night. Recommend to visit during the day time.
