The place is beautiful first and foremost. All staff members give a welcoming aura from the security inside to the cleaners & that is very commendable. The rooms are very lovely & I believe maintained to very high standards. Really enojoyed my stay and will surely be back

Beautiful hotel but dated and slightly run down. We were travelling with our infant and were atleast warned at check in that they were undergoing renovations. These were audible throughout especially in the dining room/ restaurant unfortunately shattering the ambience. The staff however are top tier and to be commended. I received a treatment at the spa on the rooftop and although they managed to fit me in last minute and the lady herself was lovely the treatment was less than satisfactory and payment was only accepted in cash as they had no card machine and we weren't able to sign to the room. Otherwise would still recommend the hotel as its not too far from the airport and general amenities work well.

Great hotel. Staff is amazingly friendly and helpful..decent breakfast with plenty of options to choose from. Conveniently located in the downtown area. If you need to travel anywhere hotel is able to arrange a ride which you can charge it to your room. Some parts were under construction, but they are gradually opening those parts to serve.

Old interior but the staff are super friendly and helpful. The dining experience overall is very pleasant. I highly recommend the La Fontaine Restaurant.

Quality has declined significantly especially within the conferencing ecosystem, the teas and the lunch. Coordination is also not so good to the extent that on one day we had to be moved fro one restaurant to another and back as tye waiters remained unsure of which restaurant our group was supposed to have their lunch. Staff morale also has declined, they are not the usual jovial crop. What has changed with the giant?

A hotel steeped in old world charm and elegance. The art works were simply stunning from sculptures and antiques to captivating paintings and photos that tell the rich vibrant historical story of its heritage ! Comfortable spacious rooms with large bathrooms and views of the capital city ! The service was excellent . Definitely recommend this gem

The service is well below a 4 star hotel. Our bathroom shower was blocked by the second day. We waited long for room service. Reception has wonderful people in the exception of a short sulky woman who doesn't smile.

Hotel could use some general renovation to make it more modern, but overall nice experience. Staff was very kind, rooftop view is great, food and restaurant area could be improved, and same to the bathrooms. Nice experience overall

The hotel is very old but still easy on the eye..I feel the current renovations will definitely make it look better . The bath tubs are old so that was a low for me . Great staff.

Perfect high tea venue. Premium venue for any event really. Beautiful well maintained interiors. I love the old school glamour, especially in the ladies room with designated powder room space 😍. Lovely service. Good food.

This may have been worthy of a 5 star rating in the past but has clearly lost some stars. The location is not ideal in the centre of Harare city. Safety is a real concern, and you can not walk anywhere. The foyer is deceiving and creates an upmarket expectation, which is soon cancelled when you enter the rest of the hotel. Food and drink service and quality were average at best. The premium prices are honestly not justified for the experience. The hotel came highly recommended by the locals, but they may be remembering better days gone by. I will not be returning here.

Poor service. Checked in 14/12/2023 - booked +- 10 rooms. Shower water isn't hot or warm. Takes ages to heat if up able to. Aircons don't work and blow hot air. Complained 3 times and no resolve. Just a bunch of sorries. Won't stay here again

I visited this place with my children while our house was unstable. My children said the beds are very cozy, and they enjoyed the outdoor view. If you guys visit this place you will be happy and the customer service is addicting. Good luck ✌️

The biggest key: get a room in the NORTH wing if air conditioning is important to you. Prices are also much lower if you book with an online travel site as opposed to with the hotel which will charge you twice as much. Super friendly and helpful staff, and despite things in Harare being very challenging at times the hotel does a good job with upkeep and service. Very helpful staff.

5 stars for a 5 star hotel. Very friendly staff, clean and spacious. My credit card got stolen the day before my arrival in Harare and the hotel tried everything to help me. Finally the payment got through and I was even able to get some cash. Thanks again mr Sydney! Personally: the breakfast was more than OK (British, warm orientated breakfast) but for me it was a bit basic due to the fact it was mainly warm food.

This fine old hotel was by far the best I stayed in Zimbabwe. The hotel has kept its colonial grandeur. The bed and linen was excellent! The room very clean and well furnished with amenities. The staff was most welcoming and supportive. I asked for some fresh fruit not out at breakfast and they quickly brought to my table. I booked through an online booking service and the rate of ~130$ US was an incredible bargain. Don’t try to save a few dollars staying elsewhere. You’ll thank meikles for a great stay!

A time travel hotel. Nice atmosphere, well reserved, makes you feel like are back in time to the 80s or 90s Rooms are spacious with all amenities needed and more, for example a mosquito repellent next to your bed. Attentive crew, there were work in progress near by which makes some noise during the day, however the hotel crew provided ear plugs for that purpose. Love this place.

I stayed for a few nights in September 2022. The service was exceptional as the staff were professional, warm and friendly. They went over and above to ensure I had a pleasant stay. Lovely hotel. Our room was clean and the deco was okay. The view of the unit square in its current state was not very good. The dinner was not good and we would have rather ate somewhere else, however the breakfast was 5star.

Still looks smart & clean.. However standards from entry to service have slightly dropped. Its a high quality brand & still has the rich quality touch of culture... However service needs to urgently improve & also right of admission...

As a lone traveller and no place to go on my own in Harare apart from business meetings (via taxi). This hotel takes advantage of white western people using their hotel with expensive drinks, meals and hotel taxis. The hotel probably was 5 star 20 years ago, now it is 3 star at best. In addition, they are renovating in every place of the hotel, which is needed but at $USD 175 per night, there maybe better options which I will try next time. It's a real shame as I was looking forward to my stay in a quality hotel

DO NOT STAY if you are on business, in house night club goes till late and the music is hectic loud and base is enough to irritate anyone. Sleeping is impossible and now I know why earplugs are on bedside table. If you want a party hotel then this could be for you, but over all this is very simple for a 5star rated hotel Will never come back

I really did not enjoy my stay here. It's marketed as 5 star hotel but the facilities are 2 star. Rooms are old. Tubs are old and dirty, curtains are dirty and stained, unable to control the air conditioning so very uncomfortable. Showering was horrible. The restaurant is also old and needs a revamp. I think the only good thing was that I got to see some famous cricket players who was also living at the hotel as well a the Floyd Mayweather event happened during my stay

  • 3/5 Chelize 9 months ago on Google
The standards have quite dropped since the renovations started. Had some issues with plumbing, bedside lamps not working, and no bottled water provided. The food at La Fontaine is great though.

Not a great experience at all, coming into the hotel was an absolute nightmare, had to go through a tideus security check, aircons in our rooms aren't working. Had a meeting at the restaurant and couldn't even get attention fus to order drinks. Horrible experience will not be staying here ever again. Reported aircon twice since arrival and no one came to assist.

120 USD per night and No A/C available? I stayed for 12 nights on my business trip, and there is no A/C at all that 12 nights. They just gave me a fan. Location wise, i would say 5 stars as there are a lot of supermarkets and parks nearby other than that the experience is not that great.

It is a very beautiful space. Though it is located on a very busy location, once you get in you are in a quiet, clean and special place. The food is quite good, although the desserts could be improved, to have only one flavour of ice cream on a buffet meal is not best. They were very generous with the drinks, thank you for that.

Went for a wine Soc wine tasting and arrived early for it! From friendly and helpful advice from the hotel garage staff where was a good place to park, to the sanitising and temp check at the entrance and friendly greetings from all staff on entering. Really good atmosphere with Tasteful decorations that help the feelings of Christmas cheer. The venue was made covid complaint and safe again with tables set at safe distance in a airy and well ventilated room - The Palm Court. Again lovely and tasteful Christmas decorations. Staff efficient and professional standards and integrity from greeting to suggestions on layout. Went for a pre-event tea and cake in front lounge. Perfect in service and quality. Meikles get a it so RIGHT. What's not to like at any event there, even with the covid situation protocols being handled so well. Great staff and venue and event! = wonderful memories to treasure!

It reminds us of a time many if us didn't experience. Conjuncture in Zimbabwe has not allowed for much improvements but they have managed to keep it up and a superb service. The gym has a fantastic view to public garden in front and it is always a great morning starter. Rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Perfect for business trips and for family as well.

I have visited other high end hotels in the region and I strongly feel that this hotel, in all its splendor, really needs a modern touch in its presentation and character. I mean compared to the likes of The Hilton in Lusaka and The Best Western in CT, l can't help but get the feeling that The Meikles is now rather tired and boring. I understand the need to preserve tradition but common..it's 2021. Do something!

Was a very short stop at this hotel but left it with a very good memories of its staff attention and help at every time. Facilities are comfy and hotel is well equipped although some things are ready for replacement.

  • 5/5 Clement K. 1 year ago on Google
The architecture is reminiscent of London hotels. It shows its age but it is defiantly elegant and worth its five stars. The 12th floor boasts of a bar, hair salon and even a πŸŠβ€β™‚οΈ pool. The pool itself is not much. The salon is worth a try and the Swedish massage πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ will definitely ease those aches. The lifts are getting a face-lift which is great. The customer service is brilliant πŸ‘ from the moment you arrive at the entrance and finally get into your room. Breakfast is traditional English breakfast but the buffet option is good enough reason to tuck in and enjoy the morning. The rooms are pleasant enough but the small fridge wasn't cold enough and the old-type sockets really need replacing.

  • 5/5 Manie A. 1 year ago on Google
There's more to love to this classical place, the food, the people and the service. Beautiful artifacts and views from the 12th floor. ❀❀❀ It all comes to the preservation of what has been for 100 years .

Top notch services offered that meet expectations, with some rooms that are still yet to be rennovated but depicting a vintage style. And it's location is very ideal and walls that insulate noise from the buildings around.

Waiters becoming a little too relaxed and slow. The hotel couldn't even put water & writing materials on the tables for a formal meeting. When asked for water by a choking guest the waiter took forever to bring it. The food was respectable.

Great venue for stay, but the hotel and staff are just looking a little tired. Sprucing up and reinvigoration needed. Restaurants serve excellent food. Room cleaning teams need grooming and assistance on BO and etiquette. Replenish all rooms daily, I didn't get maybe because they assumed I was already there.
