Chinhoyi Caves are beautiful and exciting to visit. It's much quieter when you go during the week as it's not busy. There is a lion enclosure too so do prepare for that as well should you want to see them. My recommendation is give yourself 45 minutes to an hour so you can take short breaks as there are a lot of steps to climb up and down (unless you are very fit and exercise regularly); those stone benches weren't placed strategically for nothing. The entrance to the Sleeping Pool presents a still and serene environment as you descend the steps. It is so clear you get to see the fish and the rocks at the bottom as fast as your eyes can see. To get to see more of the bottom of the pool, catch an aerial view when you enter into the dark cave. The steps are worth the breathtaking view that even a picture cannot justify. There's a picnic area for you to enjoy a packed lunch by the car park. Just beware of baboons and monkeys as you walk around so don't carry anything that will attract them. Do carry a reusable bottle of water with you to quench your thirst as you explore the area. Ablution facilities are available and easily accessible. Just carry extra water so you can wash your hands as it sometimes won't be available from the tap. Ensure you wear trainers/sandals with a good grip as some of the steps are slippery (especially when descending to the Sleeping Pool). It is a beautiful, natural place worth seeing and enjoying.

Amazing pools! Close to the main road, literally few steps away. Recommending you all to wear good grip shoes and be careful when walking down into the caves.

The caves are just so beautiful and an awesome day trip idea if visiting from Harare. The blue water is a must-see in person and it's a great place for divers. I only wish there was more development in the surrounding area to make visiting the caves a little more memorable. Entrance fees is affordable however so that's a plus.

The 5 stars are for natural caves and beautiful water which are spectacular however, I think more could be done with the facilities on offer. The toilets are a wreck with no soap or toilet roll and look like they have not been cleaned since my last visit 30 years ago. There is so much potential surrounding this natural beauty it would be nice to see a modern upmarket cafe. This could potentially attract a larger clientele as well as inject more funds for better infrastructure and upkeep of the area. I certainly think they could start by increasing the price for foreign visitors.

I visited Chinhoyi Caves a couple of times and still in awe of the gorgeous blue sleeping pool and the dark caves. My children enjoyed the beautiful views of the caves.

Absolutely beautiful place. Lots of baboons roaming around. There were caged lions, the male one came charging at me, scared me a little he kept looking at me like I was lunch. Wasn't sure how well to trust that fence. The caves were awesome, the water below was the prettiest blue I've ever seen. Please not there are a lot of steps down which means a lot of steps coming back up......it's a work out, but completely worth it. It was a nice stop on our way back to Harare from Kariba.

Had quite a nice time, breath taking views, the painstaking climb of the steep stairs ,downwards and upwards that left me panting and huffing lol, the marvelous sunshine and quietness of the caves. I am going to do it again, you should too; if you haven't!!!

Very clean, and well maintained, including toilets and camping areas. The staff was very friendly and helpful too. Some things to take note of: 1) There are different entrance fees for locals and tourists. If you wish to benefit from the local fee, you need to carry your national ID or anything else to convince the staff that you are Zimbabwean. They are not absolutely rigid, but being prepared helps. 2) The tour of the caves does not come with a guide. So you will be relying on the direction signs (which are well marked and visible). However I don't recommend going alone. Consider going with a friend as it gets eerily quiet and a bit scary down there 😂. If you have kids, watch them closely too. 3) Climbing out of the caves is a full workout as there are many many stairs. If you have the elderly or knee problems, then prepare accordingly. Again, it's not as daunting as it sounds. There are many benches and rocks for you to sit and catch your breath on your way up, so you can take your time. Overall great and peaceful experience. 100% recommend!

A mysterious, sacred and quiet place, 90 minutes drive away from Harare. Accessing the Deep Pool can be difficult for those who need extra support. Railings similar to the ones in the Dark Cave would be very welcome. This is the perfect place for lovers of subterranean passages, deep clear water, limestone and the sound of bats.

Wild and serene. Beautiful place to sit and meditate. Dark cave had lighting and so it was easy to go in there as well. Some parts are slippery when wet. There is the lion park just about 2km from the caves that you can also visit. There is a caravan and camping site on the premises and it would be a great place to spend time with family and friends. The caves are on the main road to Chirundu just as you are leaving Chinhoyi.

Not only do they have the famous caves but you can also see lions there. There is a big camping site that is well kept should you chose to do camping. It's a good place that you can spend the whole day at with family.

Take a look and see the beauty Zimbabwe has to offer! This was our best Christmas ever! We made the right choice to visit Zimbabwe and we could nit have made a better choice my family and i! This is Zimbabwe not europe or America 😃😃. We were mesmerized by the beauty of this chinhoyi caves😃😃😃 also called the sleeping pool! Its a total mystery. Fishes live in d pool but there is no flow of d water, no inward or outward movement. The blue colour of thr pool is still a mystery! We loved it totally!

Absolutely enjoyed touring Chinhoyi Caves. The sleeping pool is beautiful and majestic. I'd recommend a mid week visit as it can be busy on weekends. The steps into the sleeping pools can be slippery, proper hiking shoes would be appropriate. There are areas for braai and picnics on the premises.

Great place to be. The caves are great. Nevertheless, I wouldn't recommend their lion park if you have had lion park tours before. It's just two lions in cages and nothing much. More of zero value for your money

The blue deep water wonder, is an excellent place to visit. The caves are never busy so you don't need to book ahead. There are shaded picnic sites, camping and caravan sites. The caves have a mysterious, eerie atmosphere about them, perhaps because the water is so deep and still.

  • 3/5 Stephen B. 4 years ago on Google
An interesting cave to visit as there's a pool of water which stays at a constant 21 degrees the whole year and its great for scuba diving. You nerd to ask National Parks how to get permission to do this. Otherwise after visiting the caves about 2hrs not much else to do

10 stars for the CAVES and the staff on duty *cave side*yesterday(24/11/2020). Beautiful place! However, the staff at the lion's enclosure were extremely rude, unhelpful, unwelcoming and only concerned about eating their sadza! Guide we had was far from enthusiastic just like his fellow counterparts. So much for promoting domestic tourism! One can only wonder how they would treat international tourists..tourist attractions need people with the right attitude,it's not like we enter for free! Although the lions are beautiful,I'd stick to staff friendly lion&cheetah park for a closer destination near the capital. Lion enclosure need their own review page as they are going to mess up the caves ratings if they keep on with their foul attitude!

I like how nature's preserve here. Lots of green trees and grasses. The setting is hilly, especially where one says Hello to the king of the jungle, and underneath the hill one sees the cave with blue 🔵 water. The customer service is official and friendly. The posters are there as guides. There's a variation in the fees. Surely, it's worth a thousand thoughts and subsequent holiday vacation.

Amazing experience; beautiful scenery..nature at its best! Hiking was quite tough especially climbing back up the stairs..best to wear comfy sneakers as some portions of the rocks appeared slippery.. The lightening system into the caves did not fully illuminate the entire pathway and some renovation in that regard would do. The signs provided helped in navigating the caves alone, however tour guides maybe offered to give a better appreciation of the history behind the caves. The recreational park allows for outdoor activities such as picnics.

It's hard to believe we have such places in Zimbabwe, very beautiful place and you can see how colors are reproduced after a slight shower. Only problem, some of the caves are too dark and due to load shedding the lighting is very poor.

It is absolutly phantastic. If you got Time please go and visit. There are two Caves. One has not as many steps as the one. As you go down be careful because there is no Light. I enjoyed the right Cave and missed out on the left because of many steps and Light. But it phantastic and I will return again
