Came with 2 friends and their daughter. They come quite a lot but it was our first time. What an amazing place!! It was buzzing!! We'd booked a table so got sat down straight away. What can I say? The food was gorgeous!! We didn't have to wait the service was so efficient! Obviously a well run pub that copes brilliantly with the amount of customers. Pleasant friendly staff that are an asset to your team. We'll definitely be back. Such a lovely pleasant evening.

Lovely pub, great food and very dog friendly. All staff that served us were very friendly and attentive. A very tempting menu, we both enjoyed the lasagne after a nice stroll around Castleton and down Peak Caverns. Our dog was particularly pleased about the invite onto the padded bench seating (on one of the towels provided), which made for a very comfy post-walk nap.

We visit the George several times a year with friends that have a house nearby & always enjoy it. We decided to take four other friends new to Castleton away for a couple of days & stayed at the George (our first time staying). We all agreed that the rooms were very clean & comfortable, the evening meals were great & the breakfast fantastic. The staff were also first class, especially Jess for looking after our booking & our welcome, Pauline at the bar & Amanda who looked after us all so very well at breakfasts. Our friends want to do the same again next year! We will be back several times before then. Thanks again to all for a great weekend.

Visited here for two meals recently. The first on an evening, we had their home made pies which were delicious. The second was Sunday lunch when we had their roast dinner. Again it was excellent with a good quantity of veg and tender beef. Service was excellent on both occasions. Loved that it was very dog friendly too.

Been coming here for many years and never had a bad experience. Pie, chips, peas and gravy for lunch with a couple of good mates last week, fabulous after a bracing walk. And because I’m from Yorkshire, the pie was excellent but could have done with just a drop more gravy but the again, I didn’t ask so I suppose that was my failing.

We visit Castleton every Christmas & booked to have lunch at The George. There was plenty of choice with the normal menu & the Christmas Fayre menu which I chose off & for 3 courses it was great value at Β£28. The food & service was absolutely excellent & one to definitely recommend for when you visit here. Thanks again. All the best.

What can I say but wow. The food here is so good. Easily some of the best I have ever had, and without costing the earth for the privilege. It is tucked away down a side road so I needed to use Google maps to find it, but apart from that I have nothing to say that can fault this place. The staff are really friendly and it was easy for me to get about on my crutches, so full marks. I would highly recommend the honeycomb cheesecake foe dessert 🀀

Blown away! We arrived at a really busy period (the place was packed, bank holiday weekend!) without knowing what to expect. We sat on a large table (2.4 kids) in the garden and immediately ordered food and drinks from the van as directed by the clear signage. The process was really smooth and as a result the service as efficient as possible. Both our drinks and food arrived very quickly and by a happy, helpful staff member who checked up on us during our meal. The garden is lovely and the view outstanding. Would certainly benefit from a kids play area (you could squeeze it in :-)) Hopefully we will come back one day as the Devils A**e was closed. We did visit the Castle which was a great adventure, so this stop was much needed from a food and alcohol perspective, to two parents with two little ones who feasted on pizza! Thank you!

Best roast dinner I have had. Generous portions and the nut roast was delicious! The apple crumble was also really good. Great location and a cosy atmosphere

Love it here at The George, it's the place we always go when visiting Castleton! In the village center, just up from the information center and also very close to the castle, caves and shops. The staff are always friendly, never waiting too long for service or to be given our food. Food is lovely, good portions and great value! Very child and dog friendly. Overall never had a complaint!

Top quality staff, management and service. A great menu which covers both the usual pub fare but also more varied options, all of which were very high quality. Lovely surroundings and outside space. Home smoked nuts, jerky and pizza were all well worth trying.

Had a very nice meal, all food was piping hot, well presented and very tasty. The steak and ale pie was full of meat with really nice pastry, and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Would definitely recommend.

A pub with lovely wholesome pub grub, perfect after a hike up Mam Tor. The food and welcome are excellent. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is there is no local ale at all - which is rather disappointing given the location. Dog friendly - Crumble was even provided with a sausage for lunch!

An overnight stay here was amazing. The room was spotless with a huge, comfortable bed. Complimentary wine in the mini fridge which was extra special. We stayed in the beautiful cosy bar last night for dinner which was divine. The staff were so friendly, especially Mark who also served our delicious breakfast. The town itself is beautiful with lovely little shops, cafes and a great atmosphere. Despite the mist and rain we've enjoyed a walk. It's a five star review from us, we'll be back!!

Nice little pub. Good selection of beers both for the lager drinker and the real ale drinker. Pub was busy earlier in the day (Sunday) so we had a drink outside. Went back later and managed to get a table inside. The pizzas from the pizza box are fab. My wife had the pork roast and it was lovely. Staff very friendly and attentive. Overall a very friendly pub with great service.

Stopped off halfway through our walk towards Mam Tor for a quick pint and a sit down. Friendly staff and fast friendly service. Lovely little pub with tonnes of history from when it was built. It's mostly still all original. Will definitely go back if the chance arises.

Stopped in for some food and drink after a nice walk. Great location after a day in the peaks. 6 of us ate and the food was superb, especially the pizza from The Pizza Box. Great staff who are really attentive. To top it off, after an issue with our car, the staff drove us to Bamford to collect our friends car. Absolute lifesavers as the kids didn’t fancy walking a further 6 miles. Thanks so much!

Booked a table on a Friday evening, pleased we did as pub was really busy. Decent choice of local ales. Despite being very busy service was good and our meals arrived promptly. The venison Yorkshire pudding was excellent.

We had a fantastic meal with the family & the pies & deserts are superb. The staff were amazing & it was great they had full knowledge of the menus & drinks available at the bar, they just reeled everything off the tops of their heads. We will definitely be back.

The area and food were both very nice Visited on a Tuesday so the place was very peaceful and calm However the the nachos were very broken at the bottom, they were in very small crumbled pieces and we couldn’t finish the last bits. The melted cheese on top made it hard to share as the chips were sticking with each other, we couldn’t pick the chips up The Camembert sharer was amazing, the olive oil vinegar mix was extremely decent The pizzas were also very nice with a crispy base, but there was a single strand of hair on the pepperoni one, we didn’t report or complain about it as it was just a minor issue Overall the food and experience was pleasant :)

Place was pretty busy when we arrived but we were found a table pretty quickly by a friendly bearded bar man. Had a slight wait due to how busy the place was but the food was well worth it, two pizzas were both really tasty and the sea bass from the specials was to die for. We will definitely be returning

Just off the main street but certainly worth the few extra steps. Cosy pub offering fantastic food and drink at fair prices. The lovely staff really make this an enjoyable experience. Quiz on a Friday worthwhile activity, it's fun and not taken too seriously

Called in for drink on a cold, December afternoon. It was so warm and friendly in the pub that we decided to book a table for the evening. The meal was fabulous, huge portions and everything was cooked perfectly. The staff, Jamie, Jess and Paddy were very helpful and friendly. Would definitely return if in the area again and can certainly recommend.

We took my dad here for his birthday meal at lunchtime today. The staff were fantastic and the pub is so warm and welcoming. There were 10 of us and 2 dogs and nothing was too much trouble. The food is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for making my dad's 84th birthday great.

What a lovely place to stay in Castleton! When we arrived to check in, after a day of mountain bike riding, they cleared space in the armour plated bike store for us while we had a nice pint. Really lovely people running the pub and we were offered a table for dinner. We didn't take the offer as we fancied wandering off elsewhere around Castleton. The room was lovely, and a decent size with decent facilities. There is a carpark out back with 3 or 4 spaces for guests only. The single only slight downside of The George was that the incredible breakfast (which really was amazing) wasn't until 9 which meant that getting out for the day had to be pushed backwards. We would definitely stay at the George again in the future.

Amazing food and service. Gluten free options including pizza, syrup sponge and cheesecake. We loved our meal here and will be back. Worth booking as gets busy :)

One of the better pubs in Castleton. Booked a Sunday lunch for 6 people, staff very attentive and friendly. Warm cosy atmosphere although probably a little too cramped. Lovely food and a great selection of beers and ales. Would definitely recommend.

Went Monday October 4th at 15:30. They welcomed me very well and allowed me to sit before my booking time. Great staff and management. Good sized and tasteful food and dessert. Tables are well spaced allowing distancing and they clean them well. I highly recommend this place.

Only stopped by for an evening meal whilst camping nearby. Was pleased as they had a menu that included gluten free options. I was happy with my order as were my friends with their non gluten free options. Service was fine, there was a little confusion with orders but it was very busy and all was worked out without further issue. Pub had a nice atmosphere. You can sit outside, which would have been nicer without the fumes from the occasional car passing/stopping by the pub

Probably my favourite pub in Castleton. Grab a table at the front during the summer (if you can!) and enjoy the range of food and drinks. Currently have a pizza van at the rear which serves up a great selection of tasty pizzas!

Very friendly staff, nice seating inside and on the front of the pub. Dog friendly inside and out. Food was very good, only small comment was that the breadcrumbs on my Mac and cheese were not β€œcooked” so scooped them off. But otherwise very tasty!

I had fish pie served with fresh vegetables which was lovely. My husband had chicken curry which was nice but not spicy enough for him. But over all a lovely meal with a bottle of wine for under Β£50. Only negative would be very basic garlic bread for starter we shared. Very small piece not a lot of garlic so made it dry for Β£5.50 not worth its charge. Such a shame, a few small changes would have made our experience to 5 star.

Finished off our stay at Castleton with a visit to The George for food & drinks and what a fabulous finale to our stay here. We were made so obviously welcome from the moment we walked in to best wishes as we left. Food was absolutely delicious...so thank you & compliments to the chef & their team... And a huge thank you to all the bar & waiting staff...all quite simply an obvious asset to the George. Wonderful welcome, customer service second to none, beautiful ambience and delicious food... Can't wait to enjoy again when we return later in the year. Thank you all xx

Very well organised pub, clearly used to busy times. Had the fish pie, which was very good. Only criticism is that I would have preferred cheddar on top instead of relatively tasteless mozzarella but it's was pretty good with a lovely selection of veg on the side. The sticky toffee pudding was delicious. Nice clean toilets, polite staff and a good selection of beers. The location is great if you're walking or camping

Lovely stay for our Anniversary, room very comfortable, good beer/food and staff very polite. The wine/biscuits/spring water were a nice touch. Not sure where the negative feedback comes from? If I was to give any constructive criticism, maybe consider reserved car spaces for staying guests? Will be back again, many thanks to all.

Really friendly pub. Nice food and good selection of drinks. It did feel more "the local" of all the pubs we tried around here but everyone was really friendly and staff were great. Only thing I would suggest was more attention of the fire place, as this seems to be a theme in the area.

  • 5/5 Richard F. 2 years ago on Google
An excellent place to stay - and eat! We rang ahead and asked if our room would be warm as it was a very cold day. On arrival, everything was handled very well and the room was lovely and warm with great decor and facilities, including a complementary half-bottle of wine. We ate in the pub and enjoyed a great meal. A great place all-round.

The George Inn was an excellent place to stay in Castleton. Lovely room with a large bed very comfortable it had a small fridge and complimentory wine. We had dinner there in the evening the food was really good and the breakfast in the morning was good although you only get what you order off the menu we thought toast would come as standard or they would ask if you wanted it but this was not the case so you need to order any extras. but overall it was a great place to stay right in the centre and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend.

I have eaten here twice in the last week, firstly with my wife and secondly as a family. On both occasions the staff and service have been fantastic. The beers are kept well and taste fantastic. The food is great as well, my wife had the home made pizza on both occasions and absolutely loved it. I had the wild boar hot dog with pulled pork on the first visit and loved it so much I had it again , which is very unusual for me as I am usually more adventurous. My lad had the scampi and really enjoyed that, and my daughter had the chicken fillet burger which she enjoyed but felt it could have done with some sauce as it was slightly dry. I tried the chicken and totally disagree with the negative review given about it being no better than supermarket bought chicken. It is lightly coated with fine seasoned crumb, not the cloying stick to the roof of the mouth sort you get from shops. The chicken was moist and cooked perfectly, also a very generous portion of fillets on the bun. The beer battered onion rings are superb as well. Thanks for the great evening, will be back again.

Very nice food and surprising large portion sizes (even the starters) friendly staff and warm surroundings. We could of done with being on a larger table though as there were 6 of us crammed around a table of 4 but if that was the only option or being fully booked then its a good compromise.

  • 4/5 K S. 2 years ago on Google
Really quick service. Was in a rush and had their pizza, one veg and hot spicy. Rustic chips and homemade coleslaw. Food came within 12 minutes and the place was packed. Food was delicious and freshly made. Defo recommend this place. Staff very polite and helpful.

Plenty of outside space looking up at the castle.Β  Good choice of drinks. We didn't eat just had drinks but there was a large selection of food available on the menu. Nice little pub to relax and have a drink.

Friendly pub and our favourite in Castleton. Friendly welcoming staff, great views from the beer garden, even a pizza van on some nights in the beer garden. Had a good couple of evenings here with friends putting the world to rights with a good few beers!
