We booked the private double room. First thing they didn't mention is that it's on 6th floor, with no elevator. The way up is by climbing some steep, narrow staircase. We thought the wooden panels on the walls are just decoration, but nope, the walls are actually made of wooden planks. That means practically no soundproofing. And it's right outside the hotel's rooftop night bar that's open until late at night, with loud music and people. The floor is made of this terrible grooved wooden tiles that are mucky and rotten in spots. Want to get some entertainment? Good luck, because the wifi is terrible (can't even load a google search) and they CUT the power cord on the TV. And the bed feels like sleeping on a coarse bean bag. 2 stars because at least the hotel staff are nice and tried their best to rectify the issues, but there's no making up for the room. The terrible factors aside, the up side is that it's walking distance from a local market where you can find authentic local food for cheap.

Much like some of the other reviews, the hostel is pretty dingy. The hostel dorm I stayed in had clean beds and curtains which was good but had an insanely strong smell of citronella type oils being burnt in the room all day. This must have been to mask bad odours like the mouldy smell from the bathroom. The sink pipe was disconnected so water would fall onto the floor every time it was used. Also as the bathroom is a wet room so the floor was always wet and it was really unclear what the drainage system was.. No window in the room so no ventilation but luckily a good flow of aircon to keep the room cool. On the bright side, great rooftop with a great bartender. It was the best socialising I experienced throughout my trip in Vietnam so I am grateful for that!

Bedbugs! We had a private room on the 5th floor (same floor as the rooftop bar). The place has a nice vibe, but in the evening the bedbugs appeared. We left and did not spend the night. At least we got a full refund. The way the staff handeled the situation, we were not the first to find the bugs.

Bed bugs in the beds. This hostel is quite dirty and most of the staff are not friendly. The bathrooms are less than basic and have water dripping from the bathrooms above. The dorms are tiny and the beds are badly made. There are no curtains on the windows in the bedrooms so the rooms is bright at 6am.

Stayed 2 nights, on the first night slept in a room infected with bed bugs. Completely covered in bites. They transferred to a new room and because I accepted the new room, I then had to cover the laundry costs to wash all my clean clothes to kill the bugs which may have been in my clothes. Would not stay again.

Great place and even better people! The owners are extremely accommodating and genuinely care for your well being/comfort. Lucie at the front desk is extremely kind and is studying Chinese/English so please give her some words to play with! Will always be my first choice when returning to Saigon.

I arrived at night and after a long flight I was welcomed by the amazing staff of the night shift! Rooftop is a great place to meet new people and breakfast is free every day. Rooms are clean and luckily the AC helps to sleep :D I would love to stay here again Definitely come back!

One of the best staff so far. Especially the boy at night. (I don't remember his name, sorry) They're always smiling and trying to help you. The bathroom in female dorm should be renovated. But still it's good. Breakfast is really good. Thanks for everything!

The location is good and the rooms are spacious and clean (I had a private room with a balcony). There is a rooftop bar and free communal breakfast in the morning - great for meeting other travellers The really special thing about the hostel, however, are the friendly and competent staff. Lucy in particular (she works at reception in the afternoon until midnight) was very friendly, humorous and helpful in planning tours in and around the city.

I have stayed here three times now and every time the staff are so nice and the facilities are so clean. They always remember me and give me the best advice about where to go in HCM. 10/10 recommend staying here ❤️

Fantastic vibe and atmosphere !:) This is the second time returning back to this hostel :) ! The staff are super friendly & helpful! It's a very relaxed and social hostel so it's really easy to get chatting to other people. The hostel has allot of character and design, the bathrooms are really and the place is constantly smelling lovely with incense candles. The roof top bar is a +++, great views of the city and it's also a wonderful place to relax with a beer and chat to other people. It's 10/10 for solo travellers!

Rooms were tidy but a little small for the amount of beds. Good AC and good bathroom. The staff were really helpful, thank you Ninh! Walking distance from most things you want to do in the city. Really close to good food and walking street for bars 24 hr reception so good for when we got off our sleeper bus

This was a nice hostel quite close to the centre of town and about 5-10 mins walk to the walking street. It has nice rooms and good ac, there is a rooftop bar area but it is like doing a mountain climb. (Slight exaggeration I know but it’s a lot of steps is what I’m trying to say) and they only sell beer at the top so if one of your mates doesn’t like wheat juice bring some up with you. There are plenty of shops around and the included breakfast was nice. Wasn’t a massive atmosphere as the bar is tiny so everyone just goes outside. But good for the price and comfy beds so like 8.6/10.

MOBYLETTE HOSTEL: This is your place for a true backpacker experience, you'll meet the best people. I came for 2 nights ended up staying 2 weeks!! This place is my favorite hostel so far. It's the little details that make it perfect. Breakfast is included every morning (and it's good) and if you miss it they will still make it for you. It's super social, but you're not forced to socialize. You can choose to not have to talk to anyone and go to sleep early, or you can go to the rooftop and meet amazing people. Some of my best travel friends I met there. Linn, at the rooftop, is the nicest guy! And Lucie, at reception, is so kind and will always help. Anthony, the owner, will try to get you to have fun despite his lack of english, he is always fun to be around. This review was long due. Thank you guys for making my time here so perfect. ❤️

The room is pretty clean.. Actually a little bit issue with the bathroom, but the staff already handle it.. I got the free breakfast.. The hotel easily to find, cause it's near the street.. And i can leave my bags eventhough I already check out.. The staff was really nice, I once ran out cash and can't find out the nearest ATM and they lend me money.. (My mistake) .. Thankyou so much ☺ Overall I like this hotel, it's safe for a solo traveller woman like.. 😊

A really nice hostel, well located with a cool rooftop where everyone meet the evening. The personal was so gentle and always available to answer a question or just talking. The room is clean, it is not too got to sleep thanks to the fans and AC. Breakfast is free, which was an amazing surprise 😍 there is a water fountain to fill up bottles too. Next to the party streets, lots of restaurants of souvenir shops. They organize Mekong tours and that was such a good experience for the price, definitely worth it! If I come back to Ho Chi Minh, I'll definitely go back there. Easy to meet other travelers. I had to wait couple of hours before my plane and I checked out the morning, but one of the ladies working there offered me a free bed to rest. Such a kind gesture, thank you very much for everything ✨🌺

Amazing location and most importantly, incredible staff! We had the pleasure to share laughs with Ninh and Lucy… they were so kind and helpful. The next time we are in Ho Chi Minh we will definitely be coming back :)

The best hostel I’ve stayed in so far. If I ever come back to HCM, I’ll definitely stay here again. The rooms were clean, area is nice, and the free breakfast and coffee were amazing. But the highlight of this hostel is definitely the people you meet here and the cats! If you’re looking for a hostel that will allow you to meet other backpackers, this is the one. All the staffs here are the warmest and most helpful. My friend and I ran into some last minute issues before rushing to the airport, and Nguyên very kindly helped us so we could make it in time to the airport. I don’t know all the staffs’ names but thank you to all of you! We really enjoyed our stay☺️ Also wishing the cat a safe and easy delivery!

I've stayed here several times now. It's very conveniently located in HCMC, only a little bop anywhere, great food all around and key locations like the War Museum and they're incredibly kind and helpful here . If you have anything to organise just ask and they'll be keen to help and they do organise buses for you for many day excursions. Kind, hospitable, lovely staff. I would highly recommend it as a solo traveler or as part of a group

Could be a great hostel, breakfast is nice, the bar area is social and the beds dont squeak, even the ladders to the top bunk. But the mattress is very hard, the beds too short and the locks on some of the bathrooms dont work properly so there is sometimes a gap in the door or it just opens even when locked. The wifi only works reliably in the lobby and I struggled to get good signal inside. The main issue for me though was the staff in the mornings, from 8.30 they came in and out of the dorm, leaving the light on, the door open and having loud conversations. Meant i was tired my whole stay and i couldnt really enjoy my time in HCM, hence the 2 stars

Loved it here. Great hostel. Just a shame the bar only served beer when they have a whole cocktail and mixer menu available. Loved the cats here so much!

The perfect place to stay in this city. Comfortable beds, clean facilities and chill vibe. I stayed here for more than a week. The breakfast is super nice and the roopftop extremely chill for evenings. Super central location (right next to where the busses to Cambodia leave and arrive) and easy to explore the city. Also, come at night to the rooftop to talk to the bartender if you want to ace your Vietnamese language skills. Can recommend 100%!

Owners Haa and Thay were great, and they remembered my name for my 3 day stay! They helped me book my bus to Cambodia and Thay even dropped me at the bus station on his moped. Social hostel but not a party hostel, which was perfect for me. Great location as well. And free breakfast! Their bengal cat called Tiger is a cutie as well.

When I made a reservation with agoda here 2 years ago, I used the castle for one day, using a regular hostel. Is it the boss's fault when I see that I'm sorry for talking about it? Now, I work as a plastic surgery doctor at Da Nang International Hospital.

I loved staying in this hostel! The staff is very friendly, rooms are clean, the rooftop is very nice, the free beer is also a great welcoming! Breakfast is very big, with coffe, fruits and main dish! I also met the best people here, just saying! Will come back for sure!

I rarely write any reviews but this time I have to. I booked a room in Agoda and got a cancellation A DAY before the day the supposed to be checked in, of course without any explanation. 2 weeks already and I didn't get any refund.

It's a pretty good option for Ho Chi Minh. The staff are great and super friendly, but the rooms are a little worn down. The rooftop bar is great, though, and a good social space. I'd recommend it as a budget option.

Moved here after a hideous first night in another hostel. It was clean and had such a nice vibe to the place. The family that run it are SO kind and want to help you out any way they can. Free breakfast and coffee in the mornings was a treat too!

AC doesn’t work. Bed is a hard eastern-style bed but this wasn’t mentioned in the booking. However the staff here was very courteous and helpful when they let me cancel the remainder of my reservation with a refund.

Lovely Hostel to stay in during your stay in Ho Chi Minh! It’s in a great location, and has some amazing staff. Lucie in particular was so kind by helping us book our tours and buses out! Definitely recommend staying here.

We can recommend the hostel to everyone. The location is great, there is free breakfast but best of all: the staff. Especially Pablo & Andy are the coolest guys we have met so far. We had a great time in this hostel. Only the beds were a little too hard but otherwise everything was top. Also Great Rooftop bar, we Met a Lot of cool people there

I had a wonderful time at Saigon 1979 Hotel. The hostel was very clean and cozy, with a modern design and a retro vibe. The staff was super friendly and helpful, always ready to give me tips and suggestions. The breakfast was amazing, with a lot of options and fresh fruits. The location was perfect, in the heart of the city and close to many attractions. I really enjoyed the view from the rooftop and the free beer every night. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone visiting Ho Chi Minh City.
