Really loved the food and service at this place just off the main drag in Waikiki. It's inside a market, which makes it look a little food-courtish, but don't let that deter you. They have some great gourmet entrees and a surprisingly extensive wine list. The Charcoal Pancakes are the best!

Unpretentious with a good deal of outdoor seating. It’s Waikiki so don’t expect Michelin grade service and dining here, but the food came fast and was safe if not overly focused or particularly delicious. The black charcoal pancakes are nothing fancy and taste like regular pancakes, so are only worth it for the Instagram. Other good we had was all safe and reasonably tasty but nothing to write home about. It was overpriced for what it was, and likely involved a lot of reheating of frozen things given the speed at which 5+ dishes were prepared. (<10 mins) It’s ranked as a very sustainable restaurant but the overall vibe is “upscale Shopping center” not “farm to table thoughtful foodie haunt”. You’ll see this from the photos too. It wasn’t a terrible value but it wasn’t a steal either. Look elsewhere if you’re actually a sustainable food hound hunting for great eats.

The best place to have breakfast! We ordered the charcoal pancakes and salmon Benedict. Everything was absolutely delicious! The guava sauce on the pancakes was perfection. Very happy and plan to come again next visit. The ambiance was nice. Rest rooms were clean.

January 2022: Enjoyed a birthday celebration dinner! Everything was super delicious! Started with dinner rolls that they mentioned were like a Filipino roll. It was very good. Warm with nice crust. 👍 We also ordered a half bottle of Chardonnay. The wine list is quite extensive with a good range of reds and whites from the New and Old world 🌎! For mains, we tried the pork chop and the vegetarian gnocchi. Both were really good. The gnocchi was soft and pillowy 😃. The pork chop was cooked perfectly with lots of juice! As a nice surprise, the server brought a guava chiffon cake to treat us for our birthday 🎉🎂! Yeah! That was super nice! Would definitely come back again for more delicious food! Thank you for the great time!

This is an excellent restaurant with a great variety of options for brunch. I ordered the charcoal pancakes which looked very striking (like dark chocolate pancakes) however tasted almost like regular pancakes. The guava syrup was delicious. It is a pretty pricey place, but definitely worth the extra money.

GO! The food was incredible. We ended up just ordering 7 appetizers/sides because too many things looked too good not to try. Cocktails were great, decent wine list, great service. The beef fries were some of the best I’ve ever had.

We made our reservations months ahead, but there were several walk-ins with no problem in the morning. I got the Avocado toast and the charcoal pancakes and they looked phenomenal on photos! I asked for the poached egg on the side for a more photogenic purpose. The charcoal pancakes were delicious! I’m a fan of moist, fluffy pancakes where it doesn’t taste and feel like a regular dry cake. The whipped cream wasn’t overly sweet and I loved it. The only downside was the plate with a stone-like texture. It didn’t like the feeling of cutting into a blackboard-like surface, but it was worth it for the nice photo. Loco moco was a miss. It wasn’t something to get here for sure. Too much rice and tasted bland. Avocado toast was very pleasing to look at. I don’t usually get avocado toast but this one was too pretty not to get! Decaf coffee came with a mini French press. They pressed it too soon, but that wasn’t a big deal. It looked cute so I was satisfied. Service was great. The outdoor seating had shades from the corner to corner so no need to worry for direct sun lights!

Our meal was delicious. We started out having the lobster bisque with the charcoal rolls. This is one of the best bisque soups I have had. I ordered the macadamia nut crusted swordfish which was cooked perfectly. I had been wanting to try the macadamia nut crust and I’m glad I waited to try it at this restaurant. My boyfriend ordered the prime rib which had great flavor and was cooked perfectly as well. 10/10

Excellent from start to finish. We got the lobster bisque, seafood paella, macadamia nut crusted fish, cheesecake, coconut cake, and chocolate mousse cake (3 of us splitting basically everything). The bisque had a great initial punch and a great lingering taste. The seafood paella was great — cooked perfectly — the lobster and scallops were 🔥. The macadamia nut crusted fish was our table winner for the night (along with the cheesecake) — the fish had a great crust and total flavor palate to it, very deep flavors. The cheesecake is arguably the best cheesecake I’ve ever had — not sure how they made it as creamy as they did but it was tremendous. Fantastic place!! Best meal I’ve had in Hawaii.

Okay this place is amazing. I chose a combo (appetizer, meal, dessert) for one set price and I am so happy I did. The lobster bisque soup delicious and satisfying, the seafood paella I’ve never had and I’m so glad I went with it! The taste was delicious and so savory. The cheesecake taste like a cloud lol. It was amazing! The first picture is to show that they offer bread. Promise you it is not burnt, doesn’t taste burnt or charred. It’s soft and fluffy!

We ordered: Black Sesame Crusted Ahi 8/10 Macadamia Nut Crusted Fish 10/10 Dark Chocolate Mousse with berries 100/10 Black Charcoal Bread 100/10 Max thank you for your excellent service. Will be back and will totally recommend! A bit pricey but it is worth it for such quality food. Wish it wasn’t connected to a grocery store but we sat outside so it felt nice 👍🏽

Basalt was a great breakfast choice! Their menu is a delightful blend of unique and delectable dishes. During my visit, I had their charcoal pancakes topped with a heavenly charcoal whipped cream and Guava sauce. A single order of pancakes was large and more than enough for two. The Portuguese sausage eggs Benedict was also an absolute delight for my taste buds. The ambiance at Basalt is modern and casual, with both indoor and outdoor seating options available. Although it can get quite busy, I assure you that it is well worth the wait. Basalt is a must-try!

A great place to take a significant partner on a date. There are a variety of food and alcohol choices. With the alcohol beverages the bartender was very heavy handed which was a plus. Our waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and we ordered their recommendation with no regret. A bit pricey but worth it. Definitely a restaurant I would visit again.

Absolutely Amazing! The Smoked Kurobuta Pork Chop was super flavorful. I also ordered side of scallop from Hokkaido. Others got the prime rib. Portions were generous and well-priced for the quality and the amount of food you get. We ended up taking to-go baggies. Save room for desert! 😄🤙🏼

We had a fabulous dinner. Our waiter was Matt and he did an awesome job. The service was friendly & efficient. The food was excellent. Complimentary bread was warm and tasted beautiful. Our mains were vegetarian and seafood fettuccine. Both meals were excellent because they were tasty and hot. Highly recommend Basalt located within Dukes Lane Market & Eatery.

Great staff. Table was cleared very fast after every food item. I made reservations through open table. The Ny steak was great and Asparagus. My friends say swordfish was great. The corn chowder was great. The waiter even brought me a small slice of chocolate mouse pie for my birthday and lit the candle. It was great. Everything was greatly appreciated.

This restaurant was well situated just downstairs from my hotel room. There is a convenience store, bakery, and Starbucks in the same area but we went to the restaurant only. The location was convenient and there was no wait time (THIS IS HUGE IN HONOLULU) since we sat at the bar every visit. we visited for dinner twice and brunch once. Each time it was incredibly satisfying. The charcoal pancakes, crispy quinoa shrimp, octopus, paella, and rib eye were standouts! Absolutely great service even at the bar and very attentive bartenders. I’ll definitely be back my next visit!

Overall, this place had friendly and helpful staff. However, the food lacked. The menu is a little more expensive than other places, but we decided to give it a try since the reviews have been generally positive. Unfortunately, the prime rib was not satisfactory. Although it’s recommended by the restaurant, I found the prime rib to have little flavour and a lack of tenderness. However, my partners dish, the paella was good and tasteful. The appetizer was not very good either. As this place charges high prices for their food, I expected more consistency. Would not recommend.

I have mixed feelings because the food is 10/10 delicious. The charcoal pancakes are worth the hype. They are so good. The guava strawberry sauce is worth the trip alone. The server was nice but the hostess saw we had a child and immediately ushered us to the outdoor seating where other families with children were, and didn’t even give us the option of sitting indoors where it wasn’t windy and cold, and dropped our menus and walked away. It felt a little like they didn’t want to ruin their vibe with kids inside. But that being said, the food was worth it.

Basalt is a great breakfast place, and service is exceptional. We started with coffee, my partner with a latte, which was great. I had a cappuccino, which was a bit of a mistake, not great (as expected). We also had juices, my partner had a mimosa with pineapple juice which was very yum. I had the orange juice, very good as expected. Food was very good, I had the lox bagel, which I had to assemble myself. This was so good, and added to the enjoyment of the meal, very tasty. My partner had avocado toast with a poached egg, which she was very satisfied with. Overall, highly recommended, we'll be back.

Being back in Hawaii and eating all my favorite foods. My husband wanted the prime rib hash and he rated it a 9/10. My son got the charcoal pancakes with eggs and bacon. He rated it 8/10. I got the basic breakfast which consist of eggs Portuguese sausage, potatoes and toast. I rate it a 8/10. The service was fantastic and everyone was really nice. The restaurant is very clean but if you sit in the patio, you must be prepared for the pigeons to be around. Fun place and great experience.

Absolutely incredible food - better than you will find at the resorts with a classy yet casual atmosphere. Highly recommend the miso cod and basque cheesecake!

Anything you want is here. It is a Food Market, but with a restaurant that offers local Hawaiian dishes and decadent quality food. Charcoal pancakes are sweet and yummy, always get anything that is "Specials". I got the Pork Hash Bowl which was divine and if it's your birthday, their dessert doesn't disappoint. The waitress was most pleasant and wish we had something similar in NC. Enjoy!

Had the prefix menu. I had the salad, rib eye and cheese cake. Everything was delicious and prepared beautifully. Bartender was courteous and attended to us very well. Will definitely return on my next visit to Hawaii.

The menu is interesting with Hawaiian touches to a typical brunch. We tried the guava mimosa and the Bloody Mary. (The BM has a nice olive, cocktail onion on a swizzle toothpick and a solid kick (horseradish?) That’s a solid drink choice although it comes in a Tom Collins/Highball glass which is tall and thin. We ordered the avocado toast (thick Texas toast cut) slathered with lots of avocado, some spice and pickled? 🍅. Also got the veggie Benedict with spinach and tomato. Loved the soft poached egg that oozed when sliced into (check my photo). The hollandaise had a lemon-y leaning flavor which I appreciated. The home fry potatoes felt overcooked and/or sitting for awhile. Overall it was a good brunch.

I went for dinner. We had an outside table which was nice but beware that there is a driveway next to the seating area so noise, sometimes fairly loud, from passing vehicles is something that will intrude on your conversations at times. Our server was great except he kind of disappeared at the end of the meal so getting the check taken care of was a slow process. The food, well a mixed bag, the fattoush salad had way too much dressing it was soaked and you couldn’t taste the actual veggies. The scallop dynamite was odd. The scallops were all chopped up so you couldn’t taste them with all of the sauce. My beef short rib loco moco was good. The short ribs were braised so they were fork tender and the gravy was excellent. They used a pilaf-like rice which was really excellent. The only odd thing was they had this ogo salad with the loco moco that didn’t fit, it was as if they needed a local add-on and said “how about some ogo” and added that to the plate. My wife’s pork chop was kind of hard. It had a good taste and the brussel sprouts were excellent, but the over cooked chop took a lot away from the dish. Would I go back? Probably not as there are other options out there for the price. Parking is an the Hyatt Centric parking garage. It’s and older parking garage and if you have a full sized truck or SUV t you might find it a tight squeeze.
