Big star bar a local hang out place that hasn’t been infiltrated by all the new heights crowd still offers the divy galore that I have been missing lately. Still has a juke box and a nice size patio the bartender is amazing super friendly beers always cold what more could you ask for … oh that’s right the local tamale lady burrito lady or pizza and wing guy coming in to sell food. Plenty of parking and Dare I say it is one of the last surviving hidden gems in the heights.

With all the new patio and deck bars opening within a 3 block radius I have grown to appreciate Big Star Bar a lot more. I have been going to Big Star as a last stop when coming back from Downtown or Midtown for over a decade and it never changes. Perfect dive/industry bar with solid cheap drinks and a large outdoor area. A perfect juxtaposition to the new "Patio bar" scene engulfing the area.

This bar is a great respite in a neighborhood filled with frat bro bars. Solid prices, fun dive vibe, huge patio, pool tables, and the jukebox rules and it's always fun to see what new stuff they put on it. Everything I want out of my neighborhood bar

Cool and chill, hole-in-the-wall bar in the Heights. Pool table and large back patio.

It’s a gross dirty dive bar. A/c is 50/50 ok. Cool seating around the room. Ask for easy stuff or beer. Not a complicated drink place. Only real negative for me is the bathroom is disgusting. But it is a dive bar.

The bar tender followed us outside yelling because she wasn’t satisfied with our tip amount. Extremely unprofessional.

Been coming here for almost 10 years now. By far, one of the best dives in Houston. Big Star is definitely not a place for people who don't know how to act like adults; there are plenty of other bars along 19th street that will gladly babysit those ppl. This is a genuine dive. Come here to chill, sip stiff drinks, play some pool, listen to the jukebox, and enjoy a nice campfire outside when it gets chilly outside.

Honestly this spot is just a good ole dive bar. You know what to expect and that’s cheap prices and heavy pours.

Staff was nice and it’s a cool chill spot. Went on a weekday so not sure if it gets busy or if they sell food.

Worst bar I've ever been in. Rude staff from the ignorant drunk at the door to the rude bar tenders just the worse kind of people work here. I would never recommend this place. I don't care how cheap it is its not worth coming with the staff

Please don’t waste your money and time here!!! As soon as I seen the security he gave me a bad vibe, I wasn’t even halfway to the door when he shouted at me asking for ID. Excuse me??? He rudely checked it and then told me it looked fake. How???? Had to argue with him just to let Me in. Never felt so discriminated in my life! He also stunk and looked like was drunk and high. Like dude it’s not that serious! Then the bartender was just as rude I couldn’t even finish it, I had to leave.

A nice ducked off place off of 20th. If you're tired of the huge crowds and just want to go to a bar this is it. Extremely retro inside took me back a few years. Amazing patio awesome bartenders I'm definitely going back

Fun place for a good drink. With good music, retro lighting and vintage arcade games this little hole in the wall is a must.

Bartender is supercool patio is nice. Even on a slow night all you need is a conversation or 2 with the kids on the other side of the bar and you're good.
