Alexis was fantastic. Her service was phenomenal and I loved her attitude. Unfortunately, there was an incident with my steak. It was not able to be cooked right and then they had to defrost a steak and it was horrible. If you're going to charge $30 for a steak it needs to be amazing. The charcuterie was rated as being just okay. At least hide the fact you're using HEB brand chips and Smuckers jelly.. being downtown Houston, you need to have a certain level of quality, this place would be great if the prices were cut by 25-50%. I love local places, but this isn't the place for me. If you're going to drink or attend the random dance class going on in the front of the restaurant, it will be fine. But don't go on a date.

I heard about this little winery through a friend and I’m so glad I did! The owners we awesome and explained the different wines in the flight we choose. There were 3 of us and we all choose the 7 glass sweet flight. My friends ordered pizza including one gluten free which was just as delicious. I ordered the charcuterie and cheese board. They added goat cheese to my board upon my request. Everything is as delicious and we will be returning again soon!

edit: Szilvia got in contact with me again and rectified the error and assured me that the system will be updated to prevent this from happening in the future. I arrived in a group of 6 with my girlfriends and the place was not very busy in the early afternoon on a Saturday. We mistakenly had not set a reservation, but we were luckily able to be taken in despite of this. We ordered wine flights and Christian did a fantastic job presenting the wines and giving us a fun and enjoyable wine tasting experience. We enjoyed the wines and experience so much we wanted to buy some bottles to take home. We were told that if we purchase 12 or more we would receive a 20% discount, so we decided why not? I ordered 15 bottles to take home on my tab and was charged 20% gratuity on the bottles of wine in addition to the items we consumed at the winery. After having a few glasses of wine and enjoying the afternoon, it hadn’t registered to me that there was anything off about the gratuity charge, since my bill was very large anyway. I am accustomed to 20% gratuity on large groups, however, when I have purchased wines at other wineries, I have not been charged gratuity for the wines being purchased to take home, the wine purchase was separate from the wine tasting and food. Granted, I have not been to that many wineries, however, had I caught this earlier, I would not have purchased so many wines because a 20% gratuity charge on a $530 tab is quite large. I could have returned with a smaller group and purchased the wines without being charged the 20% gratuity for being in a large group. This almost makes me feel like I have been tricked, however, I take full responsibility for my inability to have caught this earlier and ultimately I could have prevented the purchase if I had noticed sooner. I thought that the gratuity charge on the wines was a mistake, so I contacted Szilvia about this and was informed that this is industry standard and that we generously received a 20% discount that we didn’t have to receive at all. The experience at the time was great, the wines tasted good, Christian was fantastic and Szilvia was very welcoming and kind when we met her at the winery, however my friends and I will not return to this winery due to being soured by the way in which the forced gratuity is applied. It is accepted that a 20% gratuity charge is applied to items consumed but it is not common to pay forced gratuity on items purchased to take home. No service was provided that warrants a tip when you are ordering bottles of wine to take home. In addition, Texas Administrative Code defines Mandatory gratuity charge as “Any amount required by the seller for the service of meals and food products for immediate consumption including soft drinks and candy.” I hope this review helps others not make the mistake I did. If you have a large group, do not order bottles of wine unless you want to be charged 20% gratuity for the bottles of wine. I likely would not have noticed anything off with the purchase if I had not ordered $500 worth of wine. I have definitely learned my lesson.

We stumbled upon this urban winery and it didn’t disappoint. We ordered a bottle of the Bikini Bottom which is a sangria and a vegan pizza. Our server was Hailey and she was super friendly and very helpful. When you get a chance stop by and check this gem out.

Tried Sable Gate out for Friday date night & it did not disappoint! The wines were excellent. We ordered the winemakers flight and each tasting was explained in detail by the sommelier & owner, Szilvia. We also had a wonderful charcuterie board + pizza and enjoyed the attention to detail that the staff displayed! We joined as members and will definitely be back! PS, this place has really cool options to host bottling parties & make your own custom labels for gifting; so cool!

Our experience was very pleasant. We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering. Fortunately, we had a reservation, as I saw several people come and go because they had not made a reservation. When we arrived, it was almost empty, but it was hopping by the time we left at 8:00. We ordered the charcuterie and the Sommelier Wine Flight. The server was very attentive to my tastes, described the wines as he brought them in a very informative way, and he even changed out the final wine because of my preferences. I ended up taking home a couple of bottles, and it was a very pleasant evening. The place has a night-life vibe, very energetic, yet we didn’t feel like it was too noisy to be able to enjoy our date. The only thing I would change would be a more varied menu. Although it seems like the draw for the place is the wine and the experience, so understandably, the dinner menu may not be a priority. We got the charcuterie board, and then ended up going somewhere else afterward to get dinner. We didn’t mind that, but it would have been nice to have some more menu options other than the charcuterie and pizza to choose from and I probably would have stayed longer and ordered another glass or two of wine. Overall, it was a nice experience, and we will definitely be returning.

I visited today, 07/08/2023. If you come, you will meet the owner. She's attentive to her clients and loves to inform. She's really patient. I'm new to wines and I felt like I learned a lot from her! Bring your girl to a date. When we came it wasn't packed so it felt intimate.

What a fantastic winery.. I had the pleasure of conducting long distance business with the owner.. "For my sister's birthday".... I wanted to surprise her with some extras to enjoy will wine tasting.. And what a great turn out it was..The owner went out of her way to make things extra special for my sister...Even at the very last min.. A quick change around and traffic delays she was very respectful and understanding.. The customer service was excellent.. The wine was great, Charcuterie board was good, the pizza is delicious, and the cake was the cherry on top.. The custom labels for the wine bottles were extra awesome and heart-warming... Will definitely do business here again. Everything here was excellent...

Wow! A hidden gem of a winery in midtown. Loved Sable Gate… did a Sommelier Tasting of 7 wines and not one disappointed. I especially loved the Silenus-Bourbon Barrel Aged Pinot Grigio. The attention to detail here is superb. Bob, the winemaker is very knowledgeable and spent a good amount of time with us sharing the history of each wine and his process. Szilvia, the sommelier, was super interesting to talk with and very knowledgeable as well. Definitely make this a must stop for any tastings. They also do private events and parties.

There is a passion and love for wine @ sable gate which will definitely bring me back for another tasting. The 7 flight wine tasting is a must for the best experience and a true appreciation of their wine selection. We started with 3 whites, then offered 3 reds, and ended with a dessert wine. The cheese board was paired well with the wines brought out. It was a perfect date for me and my man's anniversary. We will be back:) -only suggestion are odd jobs like labeling should be done in the back.

Great experience!!! From the time we walked in until we left the staff made us feel right at home. Was here for my wife's birthday and was treated so good. Special Thanks to Szilvia and Bob. Will definitely be returning again.

This place is fantastic! After searching for a cool place for my friend and I to go during my birthday weekend, the owner contacted me over Facebook and invited us personally for a wine tasting. She and her winemaker did a fabulous job of teaching us about some of their wines and letting a sample them at a very fair price. The wines were outstanding! So was the margherita pizza! We especially like the Moscato and the Malbec. This is a great place to go for drinks in Midtown with friends or on a romantic date! Definitely recommend!

My first wine tasting and I know that it was nowhere near what it was supposed to be like. Server didn’t pay attention to my friend and I the entire time because she had a table with important people to attend to. She literally dropped our drinks off, told us their names, and walked away. I learned how to swivel my glass and smell the wine by watching another server speak to her table across the room.

We just happened upon this little jewel in midtown Houston. This was THE BEST wine tasting experience I have ever had. Owner Szilvia was very attentive and taught us so much about about their wine. The wines were great! We also shared a charcuterie board and a pizza. Delicious food! We will definitely go back next time we are in Houston.

If you’re interested in wine then this is the place to ask questions and learn more about your palette. Ask for Sylvia, and she will take you across the world in a glass. Please, ask questions. Please be honest with her about what you’re tasting. Very rarely do you meet people who LOVE what they do, and Sylvia runs an establishment based on this passion. I left more educated, more cultured, more in love with wine, and lit af (if you can’t tell by me writing this). I promise, if you invest in the experience you’re investing in yourself. #drinkfirstaskquestionslater #30degreesto50degrees Ay bro. Do it.

Sable Gate was so elegant and offered a grown and sexy vibe! I went with a few girlfriends while on a girls trip in TX! Ms. Sylvia (owner) was so nice and welcoming. Parking was very limited as there is a night club connected to the building and their guest had priority access to the parking lot. We didn’t order any pizza or cheese to go with our wine but we really didn’t need it! The wine did just what it was meant to do! I purchased the strawberry resin wine made in house - it was DELICIOUS!!! If you’re looking for a nice night out with the ladies or even with your man, this place won’t disappoint!

The wines were really good. A little on the expensive side for me, but since I was from out of town that could be normal. The service was good, but there were a lot of times people were just on their phone. It didn't ruin the experience because I do like the freedom of doing a tasting without feeling pressured to buy. It just slowed down us starting the tasting, but other than that it went well. I really enjoyed the wines and have recommended it to family that lives in the area.

I’m so happy I was introduced to this place, I love a good Winery. The fact the owner, Szilvia came to our table and introduced herself spoke highly of the establishment. Szilvia’s not only knowledgeable but her passion for wine was very much present as she spoke. I will be telling all my friends and family about this winery. The wine was phenomenal and the pizza was cooked to perfection with plenty of flavor. Don’t wait go visit now.

Sable Gate is a wonderful place to enjoy time with family and loved ones. Szilvia and team made our wedding rehearsal so special and such a unique experience for us and our guests. It was perfect and exactly what we were looking for to celebrate together. The wine and charcuterie boards are fabulous!

I ordered a glass of their sweetest white wine. Forgot what it's called but it was nice. I'll have to return back to do a wine tasting. Came here mainly for the bachata class they offer every Tuesday night by Latin Dance Factory. It was a full class. There is a social after the 2 hour lesson. Small dance floor for the number of people present. Regardless it was still fun.
