This was my first time visiting the Cockrell butterfly center I had purchase my tickets online to be there at 10 am but they didn't open until 11:45 am so I had to buy tickets to the planetarium to pass some time until we could go in which it was worth it, my kids were kinda bored at first but they got more interested as time passed by it was a kinda short documentary but interesting. 🦋🐛The butterflies were our favorite exhibit, it was almost magical to walk around so much beautiful creatures 🦋

A fun place to visit for both adults and kids of every age. There is an educational exhibit on the 2nd floor with various live insects on display. Then it transitions into the butterfly enclosure with a glass dome and tropical jungle. The butterflies surround you as you spiral 3 floors down to the waterfall pool at the bottom. It's a wonderful oasis on a hot spring day. I would highly recommend a visit.

Had a great experience. Perfect spot for a day date with someone special or your family. Tickets are reasonable and lots of interactive games for young curious minds interested in bugs and nature! You can go through as quickly or as slow as you would like and see 1000's of different species of bugs, butterflies, and plants.

Very cheap entrance fee if you only do butterfly center ($12) Lots of kid friendly exhibits on the way to see the butterflies. The center itself is going to be warm so be ready for that, it's basically a greenhouse. Beautiful plants and tons of butterflies on my last visit. Friendly staff who are very attentive to the butterflies making sure no one grabs them or steps on them. Lots of pretty photos to be taken. Many cool plants as well, if you're a bug or plant enthusiast or your kid is you'll enjoy a quick visit here. Beware of clueless Instagram "models" blocking walkways or being unaware of their surroundings though.

Cool add on to the overall HMNS tour. We thought it was just the butterfly experience, and didn’t realize the ticket included a whole bug/insect/arachnid exhibit, which was a welcomed surprise. The butterfly exhibit was BEAUTIFUL. Extremely well maintained and very diverse. I can see it getting very crowded during peak hours, so I’d recommend trying to get in early. Only downside is as your exiting there’s an HVAC return grate that sadly a handful of butterflies get vacuumed to, and it was upsetting to see them struggling to get free/ already dead, especially since you are instructed upon entering to not touch them.

Omg! I am a Houston native and this was my first time here. It is beyond beautiful! Smells like flowers, very informative before and after you enter the dome. Wear bright colors and you may be lucky enough to have a butterfly land on you! We had fun using the butterfly chart and identifying the species that we saw. It's a nice size space and a flower lovers dream.

If you have never been here, it's a must! Butterflies will land on you to greet you, and you get to learn a lot about their life cycle. Great place to take the kids to get them excited about nature. A great place to beat the heat as well!

This is an immersive experience. You enter an atrium with wonderful tropical plantings and waterfall . Many different species of Butterflies flutter about and land on foliage , blooms and people. Tip wear an attractive scent. Exterior Entry garden plantings are nice and attract the pollinators. The science museum gift shop is great and has many interesting items.

This place was really a good bargain for your buck. It was totally worth the price of entry and my kids loved it! There are a ton of cool insects and spiders and really neat information before you enter the butterfly habitat. The being in with the butterflies themselves was really cool. We spent maybe 2.5 hours in total. I would highly recommend it

So cool! Exotic butterflies in an indoor simulated rainforest free to fly about, so beautiful and delicate, like a lovely silent dance. A few lucky visitors became landing sites for the butterflies. A wonderful experience.

I'm not a fan of bugs by any means so going here was facing a fear.. But my husband and kids love going so I went to try it out. 😅 It was beautiful but butterflys everywhere, all kinds and they will land on you. Very warm inside but we went on a cold day.. They have to keep it warm for the butterflys. Some will even have numbers on their wings. It's an experience everyone should try even the ones afraid of bugs. Little ones will love it. I definitely recommend this place for insect lovers or little ones or family's or someone trying to get over there fear of flying insects.

This is a fun place. The entry is through the Natural Science Museum of Houston It’s a natural habitat display of butterflies. You enter and they are flying all around you. There is a person at the door to regulate how many go in at one time and there were two groups of children in front of us which were divided into 5 smaller groups and the guy at the door slowly spoke all the rules to each of the groups instead of letting the teachers address the kids so we waited in line for 20 minutes! The rules are clearly printed at the entry and I could have spoken those rules twice to the kiddos in about 20 seconds. Ugh it was a beautiful experience once we got in. There were lots of different species of butterflies and we even saw a turtle. There are waterfalls and lush plants. Overall it was a great experience. FYI We had digital tickets but still had to stand in line for them to transfer them to paper tickets. The digital tickets did give a bit of a discount.

We were on vacation, me from Wimberley, Texas and my travel partner from Chicago and the live butterfly exhibit was on top of my list. The place is truly amazing. It's a little bit like Moody Garden's Rain Forest. We went on a Saturday. We went early but there were still more people then I would have thought. Get your tickets on line or use one of the kiosk's they have all over the place. They have a ticket window as well. We found the best way to enjoy the butterflies was to just sit for a while. Camera's are allowed but no flash. You really shouldn't need a flash as there is plenty of light. Also, they have butterflies you can buy but you have to release them there. I saw several people buying them for their children. Besides butterflies they have a large, live, beetle collection

Fun interactive experience with the butterflies. They'll fly around you and even sit on you. It's not a huge selection of butterflies. We spent a maximum of 1 hour in there. Also, it is not very wheelchair friendly. There are elevators, however, the path around the enclosure is not supporting.

Amazing place! I loved the butterfly room (it was extremely calming) but I especially adored the bug and insect exhibits! They have a whole range of different beetles which were fascinating and beautiful ❤️

This place is wonderful! Not just the butterflies or the plants, or the flowers but overall it is a place to be. The ambiance is very peaceful, it smells amazing, and of course butterflies are beautiful! Also, the small exhibition at 2nd floor is a must see, you can actually see a butterfly coming out from its caccoon 🤩. Seing the lifecycle makes the impact. I definetely recommend this center.

The Cockerel Butterfly Center is a really fun experience. There were so many different types of butterflies flying around and it was fun to see all the different colors. Their were people of all ages there, so it is a fun experience for the whole family. It is super popular, though, and sells out quickly. So I recommend ordering your tickets ahead online.

Beautiful! Very small and cozy butterfly house with lots of tropical plants! We also got free tickets to the rest of the exhibits at the natural science museum today and went to see the dinosaur exhibit too, definitely recommend!

The butterflies are a breathtaking beauty! Seeing them free as we admire them in their habitat was refreshing.🦋 The greenery is a wonderful cultivated masterpiece, wish the Waterfall wasn't removed during renovations. Overall would recommend this wonderful sight to all

So cool! Well, actually, it was warm and humid, but so fun. Really the butterflies just fly all around you. Elsewhere in the exhibit, you can see a chamber where butterflies are emerging from their chrysalis.

The parking garage was closed to the public due to summer camp. The first attendant was rudely pointing to a sign that read “Parking for Summer Camp Only”. But the Houston Police officer on duty asked the garage for permission for me to park there since I’m pregnant. The entire staff at the museum was helpful and kind. From the second parking garage attendant, to the entry booth, ticketing counter, museum store and butterfly exhibit attendants. The education about insects got me comfortable enough to enter the greenhouse. The greenhouse is where the butterflies are freely flying around. Baby and I were relaxed and drove around Herman Park afterwards. Oh, and the curly fries from the museum were good and fresh!

I had so much fun at the butterfly exhibit it was the perfect stress reducer. Within the exhibit they have over 3,000 butterflies fluttering around! The habitat is very tranquil with the sound of running water. They even have a species of tortoise walking around. I highly recommend bringing your family or friends here!

Very reasonable cost for an amazing place to explore. You first go through and explore other bugs, insects, etc. Afterwards you enter true experience. I have to say I was more than impressed. It truly makes you feel outside of the city. You become immersed the environment with all the vibrant colors. The butterfly’s themselves are everywhere. I also heard another mention a lotion that you can use which attracts the butterfly’s to you, so this may be worth looking into if you plan to visit. They were coming from every which way. It was so fascinating to see all the different types that were in there. I would come back if I brought any friends or family on a trip to Houston!

It was my first time visiting and I loved it. It was so colorful. Butterflies everywhere. I liked that there were several places to just sit down and admire/ or draw what you'd see. It's an enjoyable place for all ages! I saw kids bringing a sketch book to draw the Butterflies they would see, and other adults having fun with their loved ones

👍 A must see if visiting Houston. Large exhibits with a lot to see. I wish we would have visited during the week because it was very busy and there was a lot of children running around. The food court was healthy. I really enjoyed my visit but missed a lot because of the crowd.
