A wonderful slice of American history, that highlights the good, the bad and the ugly. The museum is not just filled with artifacts, but is a living testament to the triumphs of men and women who saw themselves called to a higher purpose in service. Even though found off-the-beaten-path the museum is easy to get to, with ample parking. Even though a small venue, the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful (without being intrusive) in pointing out what was essential throughout the space.

I enjoyed the visit and was reminded of the service of African Americans to the United States Armed Forces. I was surprised that the museum was not better funded. However, the pride was palatable and many of the exhibits were surprising. I also liked the old armory building. The museum deserves more visitors and better funding in the future. (Just compare this museum with the Asian Culture Center just a few blocks away).

Great information. We absolutely loved the reenactment in the theater. Then there were organized sections with weapons, uniforms, artwork, videos, etc. We need to go back a few more times to absorb it all!! Glad I bought a year membership. 😁😁

This is a must stop location. It had a lot of history of our African American ancestors who joined the armed services. It spoke bout many layers of things they faced and how they fought to not just be equal but stand for what they believed. It had a lot of artifacts that took time to collect because Alot of non color people own our ancestors things. The price is low parking is free. It takes about 40 min to look and explore. Other areas was under work so we didn’t get to see everything but I can say my children learned alot. This is a must for all people to visit

We enjoyed visiting the museum. There's an informational video to start and a laid-out map of the entire museum exhibit. The welcome committee, Mr. Larry Coleman, was very attentive and gave clear instructions and directions. We purchased shirts from the gift shop and ended with photos on their backdrop. It was a great experience. So much information about many who have paved the ways for African Americans in the military and their contributions to the wars of this country.

It was my wife's first time at the museum. I've been going since it was in the old building back in the day. I loved it then and I love it now. Someone said, "not worth the price" in a review. That's because they don't value Black History. It's a blessing that we have this amazing place in Houston to keep the legacy and history alive. As a navy vet, I walked through the building filled with pride. It is a must see.

Amazing, learned so much from our recent visit. Even had some info on my school's history, when it was the segregated school for blacks on the east side of Austin, TX (Anderson Yellow Jackets, now L.C. Anderson Trojans once integrated). My son was in awe to learn about those black soldiers and got a little more understanding of what it was like when our grandfather's fought in the military. Even more grateful to learn about the women's role, especially during National Women's History Month.

The history. The information. The..... Man everything about the museum is something you just have to check out for yourself in your lifetime. I thought I knew a good amount of information about the buffalo soldiers but come to find out I didn't even scratch the surface. This place covers everything about these great heroic men and one women. Yes there is a woman ms William she wanted to join the military to help fight but couldn't because at that time women wasn't allowed in the service so she pretended to be a man and joined the military. The only way they found out was because she fallen ill and needed medical attention. It was then the doctor's found out and kicked her out of the service. Theres alot of information here. Please go check out this place. It worth it. And make sure you stop by the gift shop to.

I was awestruck by some of the unknown or untaught history of Black American men and women of the US Military! I'm going back for a slow detailed walk through of everything in that museum! It's free on Thursdays 1p-5p! Highly recommend💯

I was in Houston with my hubby for his business trip. I don't know anyone in Houston, but I made new friends at the Y. We made plans to visit this museum, but they bailed on me (it is okay...this was all last minute). Anyway... I went alone and had a FABUOUS time. The museum is inexpensive, yet rich with culture and historical information. One of my favorites was a letter from an ex-slave to his former master. It was HYSTERICALLY FUNNY!!! I will definitely visit again! I purchased everyone back home a gift, except for myself! LOL! I will go again, and the next time, I'm bringing my brother-in-law, who is a Buffalo soldier!!

This was a great exhibit. It's worth going to see. True meaning of Afro-Americans' contributions to the United States. Even when they were treated very badly. Shame on those who made them feel inferior. You reap what you sow

My visit to the Buffalo Soldier Museum was both entertaining and disappointing. The items and the history was very good. The service from the customer service rep was awful. The place was a little beat up but it was understandable because they are renovating and still trying to hire tour guides, which is needed. They had some good artifacts for the different war areas which African Americans were a major art of in this country. The gift shop had some excellent memorabilia which we bought t-shirts. If you are looking for history, I do recommend this museum.

We visited this establishment on Friday, our first day in Houston. The front desk staff was very nice and have clear instructions on how to navigate the museum and provided a brochure. We watched a short 14 minute movie and proceeded to visit and observe the very well organized and neat museum. All of the exhibits were extremely well put together! The museum contained precious artifacts from various wars and military branches that Buffalo soldiers past and present have been proud and honored to serve in. There was also another video on a female Buffalo soldier which was quite empowering to show how women can defend and protect the honor of their homeland. I particularly enjoyed the exhibit on the Buffalo soldiers at NASA! At the end the staff was gracious enough to take our photo in front of the BSM wall. They also have a very nice gift shop with articles of clothing and other quality products for purchase. Outside there is a nice bench, horse statue, and other trucks which make for great photo opportunities. I would definitely recommend all my FBA people visit this museum if in Houston.

I thought this museum was super interesting. I learned about the Buffalo Soldiers, and thought the displays and artifacts were educational. I found this letter, written by a freed slave to his former master (I shudder even using that phrase) to be INCREDIBLY INTERESTING. I'm inspired to look further into this incredibly smart man's life to see if I can learn more about him. Great museum.

So glad we visited! So much about the history of Africa Americans in the military that we never knew (And wrote down some books we saw referenced so we can keep learning about it). There is some great artwork, and some interesting displays on non military stuff as well (like astronauts).

This is an excellent museum. The short film at the beginning is not to be missed. It provides great history and background to begin to understand the history of the Buffalo Soldiers and the museum itself. I really appreciate how this museum focuses on individual people's stories in historical context and timeline. This past weekend, I was a first-time visitor with my dad. Parking is easy and buying tickets to get started was very fast.

This place is amazing! The exhibits are beautiful! You can tell they truly care about the history of the Buffalo Soldiers. The pictures, figurines, videos, and artifacts are excellent. Everything is beautifully staged. They even have a room for children to color and take photos in uniforms.

Our niece likes out of the ordinary museums and has picked some very unique ones to visit. So, when she wanted to go to the Buffalo Soldiers Museum I looked them up on line. To be truthful the web site undersold what we experienced. This started as a private collection and expanded from there. It is very well curated and portrays from the Buffalo Soldiers of the Indian wars to the present. In my opinion it is a must see in Houston. I am so pleased that she suggested it.

Definitely a must see. We need to celebrate history. It's small but that's good because you won't get overwhelmed. They have a kids section that my children enjoyed dressing up. We learned about the importance of the Buffalo soldiers. It was a very informative place.

Staff was nice. Lots of information to read. I loved how our kids were able to dress up and have fun learning. They front desk was able to give the kids some crayons and paper to keep them busy.

Great tour very informative and powerful! To see all of the imperative contributions that Black Americans have provided to the building of America in her military. Brave valiant men and women! I left feeling more pride and a part of the fabric of America! Take your children, all colors and backgrounds to learn more about America.

The Buffalo Solider Museum was top of my list to visit when planning a long weekend in Houston. It didn't disappoint. Rich of history and culture. I showed my 85 year old Mom pictures of the old iron and stove.
