They took my review down that I had posted. My husband was there approx 3 weeks ago. When you call up there, they ask for the patient code. However, they won't let you talk to the patient without the code. THIS, in itself is CRAZY!! How do you get the code if you can't talk to the person you are calling? My husband said the food is terrible, people in prison get better food than this place! When you first enter the place you are put on a 2 day hold. You do not get to speak to anyone for 2 days. They made him wait for 2 days before he could smoke a cigarette. He said the rooms and beds were like jail cells, as he had a 3" cot to sleep on. He is diabetic and could not eat the food they had there, which consisted of Frozen TV dinners, canned spaghetti.... I went up there to take him some food and fresh fruit but they would not allow it. The people who work there are very rude too. The only good thing I can say is that the therapist helped him. No help from anyone else there. It was Easter time and I brought him some Holy water to pray with. They confiscated it and said he couldn't have it. This is against his religious beliefs. If they were so concerned about it, they could have brought the water to him so he could pray, then taken it back whenever he was finished.

Do not take your children to this facility. They will be neglected health wise and be put in danger. They attempt to keep them longer than needed and when their health declines from this toxic environment and you go pick them up they report you to cps. My child was worse with a bad infection when they came out. There are fights and staff has no control over the environment there. Clients abuse other clients and nothing is done. I had hope for some real therapy but all she did was color and this place is a joke. If you care for your child never put them here. And do not stress about their threats to call CPS. CPS thinks the place is a joke. They will visit with you and make sure your child has an appt for mental health and close the case. I will be filing a large complaint on this facility. I will also be contacting media. Your child will be harmed here.

If you care about the well-being of your child, do not place them at this facility. We took our daughter Friday and had to rescue her from this horrible prison like facility last night. First, it took 5 hours for her to be admitted. After doing an initial interview, a ā€œnurseā€ came out (one of the rudest people I ever encountered) and tells my 10-year old that she had to get a COVID test. I asked whatā€™s going on and he said oh sheā€™s needs to be admitted. No compassion or trying to reassure my daughter or anything. They claim that you can talk to your child at anytime and told us that she would receive an evaluation within 24 hours. The next day, we tried to contact or daughter over a dozen times. We were transferred I lost count of how many times and hung up on just as many. When we finally were able to speak to her, she was very upset. They placed her in a room with a stranger who was being aggressive towards her. When my daughter reported it, they told her ā€œjust ignore it.ā€ My daughter stated it was so chaotic and she did not receive any real assistance. After 24 hours, she had not been seen by a doctor. So we decide to remove her from the facility. When we arrived, this male nurse tried to convince us to leave her and started making references to contacting CPS. To which, we responded please do and we will wait right here. After he realized we could not be intimidated, he agreed to release our daughter. He then walked up to my husband and stated ā€œIā€™m not scared of youā€ like he was going to fight. He was upset because we were not going to allow our daughter to stay in this place where she was not receiving any treatment and there sole purpose of existing is to take advantage of vulnerable families in order to collect insurance money. When my daughter came down, I went back in the office to fill out paperwork. She walked up to me and the nurse yelled at her to sit down. I told him that is exactly why we are leaving. This is a horrible place and the psychiatrist she was assigned (and never saw) has horrible reviews. His name is Festus Uzokwe. Please do your research. We just wanted to share our experience, so no other family has to go through this while trying to find the best care for their child.

My Family experience with them was not good for most part. My granddaughter was in there for 5days remember I said 5, the Dr. she had never reached out to the mother about how she was going to treat her. And when she did give my granddaughter Meds she still didnā€™t call the mother to discuss the side affects of the medication given. But when we comes up there to get her because the mother never heard from the Dr. Until we discuss to take her out. Now they say they going to call CPS on us for doing so oh let m back up forgot to say my granddaughter is a minor so by Law the Dr. Or Doctorā€™s supposed to talk with the parent. So why theyā€™re going to do that I will contacting Channel 2,11,13,26,39 News hoping they will listen to our story and experience we had there. The Dr. Never called until we got there to bring my granddaughter home. So Iā€™m going to call someone on them. Right is right and wrong is wrong they need to be better with how they communicate with parents.

This place is a joke. a week and 2 days . The first 4 days patient was not given any of current meds and the clean clothes that were brought to him on arrival. There was not even a call to see if those items were there (which they were). Left in the room where intake occurred.. No communication with guardian except about discharge. 1 day prior to discharge patient had a outbreak but we are still discharging ? 3 days prior to discharge patient still hearing voices. What kind of place is this. We want this patient better and all we get is a possible bandaid. I have one good thing to say, the gentleman that sits with patients during visitation very nice, some of the front staff very nice. But all over how this place is ran is just horrifying. I dont know if there is time limits while these children are here. but to see so many come back with a short time lets me know something is not right.

While I was there I was given some things by family that were never given directly to me before or after my stay. Some, not all, of the workers were rude and were slacking on their job. The kids ran the place more than the adults. They donā€™t listen to you, and I donā€™t recall meeting my therapist until right before I left???

Sun Behavioral of Houston staff were very professional during the admission of our son. I would especially like to acknowledge these two receptionists. Both Latonya M. and Natasha P. because they were uplifting, encouraging, reassuring, and very compassionate about the care and treatment our son was going to receive. It gave me and his mother great comfort when these two staff members let us know our son is in great hands.

My granddaughter was admitted and stayed for 7 days. During that time, the nurse, staff and doctors had great bedside manners. Although it took several hours to get her admitted, it wasn't any different than a hospital emergency visit. They take the time to evaluate the patients. The communication during her stay was remarkable. I have only experienced one other facility, and the other facility did not compare to this facility. My granddaughter felt very comfortable and she said her stay was a positive visit. I would recommend any parent to admit there child here if needed. I pray my granddaughter never has to go back for obvious reasons, but should the need arise, I will bring her back to get great quality care. Sun Behavioral keep up the good work, you are a excellent hospital.

I went for a week, and it was the worst expirence of my life. i arrived at the facility at 3pm and didnt get checked in till 1am. i wasnt given food the whole day, and when they drew my blood at 5am the next day, i had a seizure. my parents were not alerted about the seizure, in fact, they didn't know till i told them once i got out. my psychiatrist told me to my face that i was faking, and there just to be with friends (i was admitted against my will). We got punished for no reason, and they often forgot to release kids from room time. two patients were left in their room for five hours, missing lunch, because the staff forgot about them. when my roommate told the staff that the medication he was being given made his hallucinations worse, they simply upped the dosage. they refused to give me my birth control for 5 out of the 7 days i was there, only giving it to me after i asked six times. i absolutely do not recommend going.

Went there voluntarly seeking in depth therapy & i get put in a unit with a lot of suicidal people and the only therapy is coloring. I requested to be discharged so i could go to a better facility that would better meet my needs Dr.Debba proceeds to call me impulsive & a danger to others & tries to court commit me, thankfully i withdrew my letter. This doctor is super unprofessional and refused to provide his license number when asked i wanted to verify credentials since i had to explained a part of my illness that a psychiastrist should already know. Nurses are horrible & rude. This place is the last resort if you want to be in prison waste about 2,5 k a day for no real help. This place is a joke.

This place is unacceptable. I took my IDD son there for help and they gave an inadequate assessment recommending sleep. Had psychiatrist call and tried getting him help and the turned him away again. So much for trying to get help from them. Some people are fortunate and good for them but others who are in a crisis need they are atrocious facility.

My experience Here was horrible all there was zero one on one therapy and when they brought us into the room for group therapy we just colored. We were only able to call our parents during designated call times like in a prison. The staff were overworked and underpaid and children were brought into solitary confinement for fighting back. We were also never allowed to go outside and we weren't allowed to do anything for most of the day I was thankfully only there for three days but it felt like an eternity in hell.

Hopefully by tomorrow when an actual Doctor arrives Monday I can give a higher star review. Friend of mine with bipolar and schizophrenia has not received any medication for his mental issues while in this hospital stay Friday 6/11/22. Only been given epilepsy medication. Highly suicidal, and being kept with a roommate at this time 6/12/22 today. This hospital are NOT taking this seriously. Have all his medical records from California / Las Vegas / and Reno, NV clarifying his illenness that have been ignored at this hospital at the moment ( Sun Behavioral) Apparently have no Doctors available on Sunday's 6/12/22 until Monday 6/13/22

I was a patient here a couple years ago and I must say that it was a great experience, the girls there were so sweet, well at least the ones that were there when I originally arrived there. The staff was very helpful and it did make me feel better but due to not having access to post facility help I ended up relapsing my depression but I really want to thank the teen girls staff for taking care of us

Excellent Excellent place! Had to admit a loved one and they took good care of him. Dr Barber doesn't return calls or respond to family members. However his medication adjustment was on point. He could embrace family a bit better although I'm sure he has a full plate. Just remember that We have to care for them after release so open communication from the doctor is important. Dorothy at the front desk is an Absolute Angel! Nurse Sam is a God sent that relayed messages to the doctor. Ms Kat is and Angel! The CEO Brennan Francois is extremely communicative and treats the patients and families with the RESPECT they deserve. Mental illness is not a choice. That's why we need hospitals such as SUN to get ppl back on track so they can be productive citizens. Thank you and God Bless each and every one of you!

Edit: no one from the facility has called to discuss major issues. Multiple issues. At first, we were desperate to find a facility for our child who we thought was in crisis. We get her admitted with the understanding that she was safe. The pros outweigh the cons. Trust the process. Well, the cons flipped the scales. Never heard from the actual doctor until after speaking with 2 nurse supervisors, patient advocate and the CEO. Gross mishandling of HIPAA. No communication-returning call with provider. Threatening communication from multiple employees stating if we discharge our child, CPS will get involved. (Please, bring CPS to us, we have things that needs to be reported). The condition of the facility is dismal. Filthy lobby couches covered in debris. The patient stated that her room was filthy and she ended up sleeping on the couch near the nurse station. Daughter had to be a caregiver to her roommate who was in a walker. That patient had her belongings strewn over the room and bathroom, My daughter was not able to shower since the roommateā€™s equipment was shoved in the bathroom. Daughter stated that she witnessed the RNā€™s slapping and grabbing patients. Patients hitting each other. Patients not allowed to comfort each other. Once doctor finally called, she agreed to release our daughter. We arrived to pick her up and was told then that she was discharged AMA. The provider never mentioned this. There are more issues however we are still gutted by the experience of how our daughter was treated and how us as parents weā€™re basically lied to from moment 1.

My precious 13 year old granddaughter was taken here (against my wishes) last Tuesday afternoon by ambulance from Memorial Herman Hospital in Pearland where her Dad had taken her on Monday night when she had came into his room with an empty bottle of Midol and told him ā€œDad I think we need to go to the hospitalā€ and she had been having signs of anxiety, depression and hurting herself! So he rushed her to the Emergency Room and then contacted her mother (they are divorced and my daughter lives up in Spring with us and her other 4 year old daughter) at around 2:45 AM where she was seen by doctors and had bloodwork done. After her mother got to the hospital in Pearland she contacted my granddaughterā€™s therapist who is in Cypress, Texas and my granddaughter had only recently had one virtual visit with her and she had recommended that she get more help (intensive therapy sessions) or a good psychiatric hospital. So after the hospital did their initial assessment and they had my granddaughter talk with a psychiatrist and a therapist she told them that she was afraid if she went Home she would possibly hurt herself again and she was very depressed. So the doctor told my daughter and former son in law that she needed to be taken to a psychiatric hospital and they would have to find one that had an opening to except our granddaughter. So after many hours they found Sun Behavioral and I had read up on the reviews and I have bipolar disorder myself and have been in 2 different hospitals in Houston and I told them I wouldnā€™t take her there because of the terrible reviews! Well they did not listen to me or my sister or her brother so about 2 hours after my daughter got home from admitting my 13 year old granddaughter (her first born daughter) she received a phone call from the psychiatrist nurse and she was calling to get parental consent to give my granddaughter 5mg of Lexapro! A psych medication used for depression and anxiety disorder! When my daughter and her former husband had specifically told them to put on my granddaughterā€™s chart ā€œno medication!ā€ They had wanted her to use talk therapy and group counseling sessions and medication as a last resort!!!!! She had only been there 2 hours and they wanted to medicate her and she is only 13 years old and we still donā€™t know what her diagnosis is or if she has even seen a doctor yet!!!! My daughter told her ABSOLUTELY NOT AND DO NOT GIVE HER ANYTHING UNTIL A PSYCHIATRIST CALLS ME AND HER DAD!!!! Wednesday on my daughterā€™s lunchtime break she has a voice message from the hospital and itā€™s the nurse wanting consent to give her daughter medication 5 mg of Lexapro again!!!! My daughter has a fit and calls her former husband and he has not gotten a call at all and he works from home and has been by the phone all morning! She called the nurse and tells her again until they hear from the doctor DO NOT GIVE HER DAUGHTER MEDICATION!!!!! So she gets home from work and calls up to the hospital to see how her daughter is doing and they said she was fine and asked if she wanted to speak with her? Her daughter got on the phone and said she was ok and she had spoken with a psychiatrist for about 10 minutes today and then she had slept all day! Her mama said ā€œin your room!ā€ She said ā€œno they wonā€™t let you sleep in your room so I slept on the couch in the morning room my daughter asked why she didnā€™t have to go to group therapy and she said because she was sleepy! And she asked was she doing okay and she said yeah Iā€™m just cold because I need some warmer clothes and the blanket is really thin and they wonā€™t let me have another blanket so could she please bring her some warm clothes and a jacket tomorrow. So my daughter gets another voicemail on Thursday asking for medication consent! So my daughter and my son in law are now going to be taking my granddaughter out and itā€™s Wednesday a week has passed and they havenā€™t gained anything from this place, my granddaughter has told them they have girls from 13-17 she is the youngest and some of them have been arrested one for stabbing a girl in the leg!

Not given any of my current medications that I have been taking for 10 years..Very very poor healcare as RNā€™s would not respond to patients needs..Bridges unit..Resulted in a lot of patients becoming aggressive and violent. It took me 6 hours to get 2 Tylenol..Direct care workers therefore had to deal with chaos constantly..One in particular Bobby really stepped up to the place to try to stop the violence on the unit caused by patients needs being ignored by the RNā€™s..The other Direct Care Workers were great and Dr Barber was good as well..Food is wonderful..Overall a horrible experience..I will be contacting the Mental Health Association to file a complaint.. I would not return here if I needed help in the future Second post: Of course you can not respond to itā€¦I think that is Sun Behaviorā€™s core value..Thatā€™s why you have a 2 star ratingā€¦The Nigerian RN who wore the blue beret would not get up out of his seat to help anyone..The lack of health care was the main reason there was so much chaos..And the direct care workers had to try to keep the chaos under controlā€¦Utterly horrible..Basically put 20 people going thru one of their hardest time in their life in a room, locking the door and made their situation worse by not attending to the clientsā€™ needs..This place needs to be shut down or clean house and get some health care workers that care..

OK i was a in the in patient for a week and the outpatient for 6 months i just want to say i have gone to other mental hospitals in the Houston area. i will say this is the best facility i have been in. I believe this is a great place it helped me get threw all my family problems i would recommend. The reason this place has bad reviews is because of the nature of mental hospitals where people don't want to get the help. I will admit it was a hassle for my parents to get me admitted, But thats how its going to be for all mental hospitals. I hope this review helped yall bye.

After being in the waiting rooms for 4 hours, all I had to show for it was a blood pressure reading from a broken machine and a horrible experience. All I wanted was some answers to simple questions but instead I received stress and sass from most of the admin staff. If you need to receive specialized treatment, please go elsewhere!!! Worst patient care experience ever!

Refused to give patient his medication for a medical problem. They were rude when we tried to sort it out and even though he voluntarily went in, he couldn't get out without doctor order, but the doctor only sees you once a week. A nightmare. An actual nightmare. Being stuck, sick, with no medical help and no one to help you.

This place is horrible. I stayed here 13 days this time and it was pretty pathetic. I have a composition notebook with 33 pages worth of complaints written in it. The patient advocate who's supposed to take your complaint and perform necessary actions wouldn't even talk to me. He did not do his job at all. And him along with most of the staff. Doctors, Techs, and Nurses are extremely unprofessional. I hated my stay there! They make up rules as they go. I will be filing a claim when they bill my insurance. Meaning no payment from me! Screw y'all. And I contacting the necessary agency to take action on my complaints. This place is a zoo. Nothing but possums and elks. They suck. Just be smart if you plan on checking in here. Goodbye.

My husband went there a week ago. He said the place was horrible and very unprofessional. No one on one therapy . For group they have you color in coloring books. They almost killed him by miscalculating his blood pressure meds and the levels of stress were overbearing..They would have violent patients on same floor as the non violent patients. People were attacked every day and the employees up at the second floor did nothing to avoid the issue my They kept.Never lol at him know about me e calling him. I could go on and on If you decide to go here your in for a bad experience.

I can't believe the process to get into this center. I have a daughter who was told by her psychiatrist that a bed was available for her and all records had been sent over. After 4 hours waiting we got to go back and speak to a nurse that discovered I was NOT a walk in and arrangements had already been made by her physician. Then I find out that my guardianship/custody papers are no good to this facility, I had to have adoption papers. He mother passed away in 2011. They went behind my back and got a judge to court order her admission after I said no way will that happen. There are more than one of these facilities that I am sure don't have these strict rules and treat parents this way. to to it off, I got out of there at 2 am after 12 hours of waiting. Unbelievable.

I was very happy with the choice we made to take my son to Sun Behavioral Hospital. The staff-receptionist, nurses and doctors did a great job. They were professional and compassionate. My son was very happy and felt safe. I would recommend this hospital highly. Thank y'all for all you all did for my son and I. May God bless y'all abundantly.

Whatever you do-DO NOT EVEN SEND YOUR WORST ENEMY HEREā€¦.. The ONLY good doctor there is Dr Barber. If I could I wouldnā€™t even give them 1 starā€¦.. Superviser charge nurses, AND NURSES will consistently blow you off. The doctor if involuntarily committed WILL keep you like a prisoner. I am not depressed, or anxiousā€¦..And Dr. Choubkha- KNOWING I AM 33 weeks pregnant-Attempted to cold turkey me off my medication putting my life in danger AND Baby girls life in dangerā€¦.A formal complaint was filed against Choubkha, thelma(nurse)ā€¦ā€¦Knowing I am high risk AND pregnant-KNOWING I am NOT depressed or anxiousā€¦.after the complaint was filed someone made it ā€œdisappearā€ it was thrown away from the supervisor box from even seeing itā€¦.and then medical the doctor THEN prescribed legally I am entitled to see a doctor within 12 hours-It was 17 hours before seeing any doctorā€¦.the night nurses are now unplugging phones at night to prevent patients from using phones to call outā€¦.to obtain any helpā€¦.When I was having horrible cramps being 33 weeks-I was told take this tynoel and lay down and you will be fineā€¦..The doctor is holding my hostile there. I am waiting transport to go backā€¦.even though it has been past 72 hour involuntary commitmentā€¦ I havenā€™t changed any medication and I am not wanting to hurt anyone or my selfā€¦.and they will not release me. Worst place ever. This hospital a year ago was ontop of its fans now a year later-I wouldnā€™t send my worst enemy here.

Completely traumatized by this place even months later and I feel like thereā€™s nothing I can do about itā€¦ I will never be the same after my time spent here. I canā€™t even begin to explain the rude, dismissive, and ableist staff they have working at this placeā€¦One example I can give though that I will never forget is that I was admitted in December when there was a threat of another freeze in Texas and they kept the AC so cold you couldnā€™t sleep without covering your face and when I asked a nurse what they were going to do about turning the AC up for the freeze she said she didnā€™t control the AC and I quote ā€œI donā€™t know what yā€™all gone do but I can go home to my warm bed.ā€ to a bunch of involuntary inpatientsā€¦Extremely insensitive. I will never forget her saying that. The staff is there for a check and not to help patients clearly. My mental health is worse instead of better after leaving this placeā€¦Most of the people who are giving 4 or 5 stars are only speaking for their loved ones and not people who actually stayed in the facilityā€¦DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THEM!!!

First off I want to thank the staff in the womenā€™s unit for always being amazing. Especially mrs. Bonnie. I was first sent here in 2021 after almost dying at bay shore for poor care. But Iā€™m glad I was sent there because every time I go I always get the help I need. Itā€™s hit or miss with the women I get put with but I canā€™t control that. But the food is good, they regularly clean the unit, the recreational therapy is always fun, and the phychoeducatonal therapy is what helps me the most and youā€™re able to talk to the therapist 1 on 1 when you need to or the mental health technicians. And I have made friends that are better than the ones I have meet in school. My most recent visit was probably the most progressive one yet. Frustrating at times but I grew more as a person than I ever did before. Not to mention they allow cellphones based on what unit you are on. But one thing they need to regulate people who are under 21 when itā€™s outside time and smoke break. Other than that this is an amazing hospital

I recently checked my 17 yr old Son into Sun Behavioral for psychotic behavior, I had no where else to turn and desperately needed help, the check in could use some improvement but over all the Director, Nurse, Counselor, Doctor and Staff were very courteous, caring and professional, he stayed there 9 days, when I picked him his whole demeanor had changed, his attitude had improved tremendously, I had a plan to move forward with, I had a diagnosis to work with, I can say that Sun Behavioral helped me out in a time of crisis, my Son is on the road to recovery thanks to this facility.

šŸ«¤ My mother was life flighted here after having a large stroke. The doctors are wonderful. But, she received poor quality of care from the majority of the nursing staff.
