Ordered lunch at ‘Ophelia’s’ restaurant during our visit to Independence to see the Truman library. Can a restaurant in Independence, MO serve a good Chicken quesadilla? The answer is yes! The kitchen staff prepared the quesadilla just right, served with a garnish of green onions and cheese, and a small side of guacamole. The guacamole was acceptable (and good), but compared with the fresh version we’re accustomed to ‘out west,’ just wasn’t the same. The ‘Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato’ sandwich was great. Bacon was just right, served in a generous amount, along with fresh Lettuce Tomato. The Sweet potato ‘criss cut’ fries were also good. The restaurant features an impressive bar and furnishings. Seating along the windows looking out on to the street provide an enjoyable view. The entire space is well done. Ophelia’s would be a great destination to enjoy an afternoon or evening meal. It certainly was for us.

One night stays at hotels are me and my husbands regular getaway. This was so much more than a regular getaway. The inn is tucked away downtown independence right next to the most unique shopping - a simple google search of the area does not do it justice. It deserves a stroll down the strip. The sweet manager of Ophelia’s (I’m so sorry I forgot your name) upgraded us to a suite and chatted with us about what to do on the square. We chose to dine in at the restaurant downstairs and it was delicious. I would have never anticipated such beautiful food. Never more have I been more welcomed and so surprised of the hospitality of independence. Staying here has forever changed our plans for future getaways. -Just two hard working kids

We ate here tonight and we will not go back. The restaurant was nearly empty and each table had a different server that wasn't serving any other tables. Despite that, the service was painfully slow. Our menus were spattered with old food. We got a glass of wine, a cup of soup, the cheese plate appetizer, and both of us got the chimichurri marinated flat iron steak. We enjoyed the cheese plate but felt it was very overpriced at $22 for a moderate serving size. The soup was okay. Our steaks were extremely bland, and neither were cooked to the temperature we ordered. My fiance asked for a medium steak and his was very rare on one side and overdone to the point of being inedible on the other. Mine was supposed to be medium rare and it was rare on one side and medium well on the other. Both were served sliced so the kitchen should have been able to clearly see that the temperature was off. The sides were also bland. We wanted to ask for chimichurri to season the steak more, but after our food came out, we didn't see our server for 30 minutes. When we finally requested the chimichurri and tried a bite, it was awful. It was definitely not chimichurri. At that point, we gave up on dinner and decided to just eat somewhere else later. The final bill came out to $130, which we would have been happy to pay if the food had been tasty, but it feels like such a rip off for food we didn't even eat. We left with almost a whole steak still on the plate and the server didn't even ask about it.

We’ve heard nothing but good things about Ophelia’s - we had it on our list to try during Restaurant Week but it just didn’t happen. We have a YouTube channel about all the things to see/do/eat in Kansas City so we’re always itching to try new places…not just to try it ourselves but also to share it on our platforms for other people to check it out too! We had a lovely experience… kinda felt bad that we were more casually dressed, but we still had a great experience. Our food was great, the live musicians were absolutely lovely, and the environment felt warm and magical. The apple crisp was SO SO delicious.

Our Friday night date this week was our first visit to this restaurant and it was wonderful! Our server, Luke, was very attentive and accommodating - took excellent care of us! The food was excellent, especially the Granny Smith apple coleslaw! - was so good we had to take a to go order with us! Will definitely be back!!

Who knew this amazing little gem was tucked away in Independence! This restaurant is worth the drive or, better yet, stay in what used to be Harry Truman's office, now a beautiful suite of rooms after listening to live piano jazz!!! I was so impressed by the beautiful ambiance, but it was the menu that blew me away!! Fabulous food, exceptional cocktails, and a fun historic feel that will make you want to⁹ come back!!

Went there for Mother's Day dinner and the menu said for the Mother's Day dinner they would have lamb and steak but they had neither on the menu when we got there. They also ran out of certain dishes while we was there as well. Then they told me they was low on beer as well. It was far too expensive for the dishes, especially fish and chips at $28. If you're going to charge me that much invest in buying some new tables that aren't all scuffed up. Waitress was very nice though. Needless to say we left very disappointed because I wanted the lamb and my mother wanted steak.

I still cannot find anywhere, where they published the Mother’s Day brunch menu. Do not advertise it as a brunch when there is not a single breakfast menu item available. Do not take reservations at 10:30 AM and off for coffee and mimosas, when there is absolutely nothing, you are serving that makes sense with those beverage items. the menu was very lacking and the steak was over cooked. They were not keeping up with changing out the items that were empty so no one was following a line. If they saw that the risotto had been refilled, people were just stepped right in because they had been waiting. Unlike their brunch we were used to, there was no selection of desserts. In fact, our server told us desserts were included as we asked for a check. The cheesecake we received was warm. Seriously… Warm. Our server was very nice and we didn’t ask for a manager to complain because who wants to be that person on Mother’s Day. But we will never ever go back.

We came in a bit after the dinner rush and immediately loved the atmosphere of live music playing softly in the background. The smaller one page menu was exactly what we were looking for and while the price point was higher, the quality of the food and service felt well worth it. Elaine was an amazing server and when my dish came out dissatisfactory, she immediately took care of it and was so wonderful during the whole experience. My husband's ribeye was stellar and our drinks were delicious. Overall a wonderful experience and I highly recommend.

We had a great lunch here last weekend. It was our first visit to this restaurant and we were not disappointed. I ordered the Oak Grilled Chicken with Havarti cheese and it was fantastic! I got a side salad with it and it was very good too. Only small complaint is the salad wasn't very cold. Maybe it was because it was served on a warm plate. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was great. Everything was nice and clean. I was surprised to see the large banquet room in the back. I liked it here so much I can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu!

Couldn’t believe how great Mother’s Day buffet was. Service was amazing food spectacular. If you went away hungry or disappointed you don’t know what fine dining is. Definitely worth the money and ready to do it again!

Nice place but did not live up to the setting. This was mothers day and they had run out of fried chicken by 1:00 pm. Had the fish and chips and it was very greasey. My wife had broasted chicken. It seemed old, areas were dry and hard. Another had prime rib. Was very rare, not med rare. Lava cake was extremely dry. Very pricey and not worth it. Service was very good and personable. Mens bathroom was very much in need of attention, this was brought to our servers attention but not taken care of while we were there. Very disappointed. No plans to return.

I loved it here! I love to hear so much that it will now be the main spot I visit every time I am in independence! And the hotel room was so classic! It was the first location I've stayed at that had grown people vibes! ❤️

Creative & Delicious The amazing house salad with an in-house lemon garlic vinaigrette began our delightful experience. Brussel sprouts? Done like we've never had them. My steak was done to perfection and was so tender I used my fork to cut it. We experienced the best meal of our journey at Ophelia's. And then there was music. Live music....

Came here for Valentines Day. The hostess did a great job waiting on people to be seated, cleaning tables, and attending the bar as well. Gave her a tip because she deserved it. I gave it 4 out of 5 because even though the food was good, the service was great, but the steak was undercooked. I ordered medium done, and it was more like medium rare.

This review is about the restaurant only. We live in Independence so we haven’t stayed in the Inn although it is something we have talked about. Drinks - amazing! They flavor infuse the alcohol themselves and they pour heavy (strong drinks☺️). The cocktails are garnished simply but in a charming way. The staff is better than average- attentive without invasive. Professional, uniforms are classic and they are always clean. The finishing touch would be if the boxed take-home for diners. The real treat is the food! I’m a picky eater but rarely request something alterations because everything they make is freshly prepared, beautiful, and delicious!! We would really like to have the corn fritters and lemon custard tart back on the menu but also we love trying the new options. The chicken chorizo appetizer is so freaking delicious! It is obvious that there is a true chef in the kitchen. I’m proud to have this level of dining in our home town. About the area around the restaurant/ inn: President Harry Truman was from Independence, Mo. Right across the street from Ophelia’s is Clinton’s Soda Shoppe. Harry’s worked there when he was 14 yrs old. On the opposite corner sits the Historic Court house where Harry was a judge. At the north end of the block is the historic jail which is said to be haunted. Independence, Mo tap water was voted the best tap water in the country. It’s naturally soft as it still comes from a spring. There are several little shops on the square (the blocks around the courthouse) all are charming for different reasons.

Stopped here for lunch on our way to KC. My friends asked me to find a "fun" place and this seemed like a unique option. So glad we discovered Ophelias. Great menu and service. I had the fish and chips which may have been the best I've ever had....and I have the real deal in England a couple of times a year! I look forward to going back next time I'm in the area.

Not a good experience. Went for Mother’s Day, it’s like they didn’t plan for it to be busy. The hostess was rude rude rude. We had to wait for her to stop and yell at the kitchen staff as we passed. I watched them make an elderly lady struggle up a step to her table. Like they can’t accommodate handicap/elderly people..? It was SO hot. It was supposed to be a brunch but there was nothing breakfast related..? The food that was there was okay but it was a buffet and they weren’t keeping up with changing out the empty dishes. A huge fight was happening behind the bar. The staff were screaming at each other and dropping fbombs. So unprofessional. The cheesecake was warm. 48 dollars a plate not worth that at all. Our waiter was stretched between too many tables and he was trying to keep the peace between the staff that were fighting. He was hurrying but everything he did took 10-15 minutes. We were there for two plus hours. When he brought the check he didn’t give us a pen. I had a small child and did not have anymore time to wait for a pen. I went to ask the hateful hostess but she wasn’t there. The line of people waiting to be seated was out the door. I just reached behind the host stand and signed my bill with a crayon. You can tell by the lack of owner interaction on their Facebook and google review pages that the owner obviously does not care. You could not pay me to go back. What a waste of a Mother’s Day.

Stayed here for a wedding that was 2 blocks away. Was within walking distance of the Delaware event space. Has early checkin and late checkout which is nice. Room is a little dated but nice.

Maybe this place once had what it takes to be a good restaurant, worthy of demanding the prices they charge. Most certainly not the case this evening. Read through the other 2 & 3 star reviews from the past 12 months. That pretty much sums up my experience. This is a one and done for me I’m afraid.

I found this restaurant to be extremely non-traditional in their servings. Their food was extremely good though! However, for a price tag of $250 for five dinners, I personally thought that was a little too high, Compared to other restaurants in, and around, the surrounding area. This place seems to be really prestigious to his clients.

I didn't know this place also offered rooms until posting this review haha. A friend and I were in Independence for lunch and were hungry, and walked in, knowing nothing about it before stepping inside. The outside appearance is clean and hip, but the inside is FANCY. The server was great and the food was amazing. It was great to discover this place today.

We were driving east from Utah on our way to visit relatives in Olney, IL and then back to home in New England. Spending the night in Independence. Looked up best restaurants on Trip Advisor and this was #1. Made a reservation. It exceeded expectations. Very nice modern atmosphere, nice vibe. We started with the Fried Brussels Sprouts appetizer ... best Brussels Sprouts that we have had, and we usually order them everywhere.

Don't know if I have had anything less than great here! The fried chicken is really surprisingly good. Also, you have to try the pork belly!

We got the bbq Pulled pork and pressed cuban woth sweet potato fries. They were really good sandwiches. And the fries rock. It was so much food we both were stuffed. No room for dessert. The place was clean, the bathroom was clean and the waitress came over just the right amount. Definitely recommend and Definitely will be back.

Interior is mediocre. It wasn't the same menu as we saw in pictures prior to our visit. It's not actual Italian food, however, the chicken was pretty good. I'd say this is more of a wine and dessert place. The Poliziano wine and others they have are nice. The banana bread dessert was quite actually top notch.

My salmon was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The snap peas were tasty.. I just prefer steamed but did not ask how they were prepared. Caesar salad would have been so much better if they had used half the amount of dressing. Im not a fan of soggy salad. But again, that's just me. Service though was impeccable. Very attentive and friendly. Very clean. They'd added outside seating since I was there last and it was very inviting.

Such a delightful find during our visit to Independence. The whole historic area is filled with wonderful businesses, and we settled on Ophelia's for lunch. Each of us was very satisfied and, honestly, surprised by the freshness of the food. This is a restaurant that could compete with ones in much larger "foodie" cities. The service was top notch as was the decor. Don't know when I'll be back in Independence, but I'll visit Ophelia's again.

Lame bar, they could not fix a bloody mary. They were out of things for a successful bar. Had a great server. Food was hot and plentiful. Will go back.

We ordered from here earlier today and we recieved nothing but hard resotta We couldn't eat this! Even though we didn't spend 20 bucks we can see that our order wasn't cared for in this order. Would love for them to correct it or give us a refund or replacement as of now I don't recommend

I celebrated my birthday with dinner at Ophelia’s last night, and it was an absolute delight. Great atmosphere, exceptional staff, DELICIOUS food. I loved the grilled Norwegian salmon (prepared perfectly!), and my spouse was very pleased with the bison meatloaf. Portions were generous. We had thought we were too full for dessert, but the coconut milk panna cotta was the perfect ending note.

What a wonderful restaurant and inn!! We were lucky to get the suite. It is so spacious and romantic. We were there to attend an event in the conference room. If you are looking for an "all in one" location for a large family gathering, or corporate event, give Ophelia's a try!

Had the honor of being a guest of the Speaks Chapels Christmas Party. Chef's offerings for appetizers where absolutely devine the main coarse was mouthwatering perfection even while serving so many guests! The highly regarded Steak Houses in the KC area have nothing on Ophelia's. If you haven't you must try! Stay Local!
