During
our
stay
in
Jodhpur,
we
were
able
to
go
on
a
safari,
which
took
us
outside
of
the
city
to
catch
a
glimpse
of
life
in
the
country.
We
booked
a
safari
trip
with
Bishnoi
Village
Safari
Tours
and
it
was
fantastic!
Our
guide
picked
us
up
at
our
homestay
(Dev
Kothi)
near
the
clock
tower.
He
patiently
waited
for
us
as
we
were
running
a
tad
late.
He
then
took
us
to
see
some
wildlife
including
deer,
peacocks
and
a
black
buck
antelope.
Next,
he
took
us
to
see
an
opium
ceremonial
demonstration.
The
man
was
also
kind
enough
to
show
us
how
to
wrap
a
turban
and
even
put
it
on
my
husband!
Then
we
went
to
the
weaver’s
house
where
we
were
shown
how
they
make
the
famous
dury
rugs.
The
village
people
and
those
in
the
surrounding
community
spend
a
month
or
more
making
the
famous
rugs
as
a
source
of
income
in
the
desert.
The
people
of
Jodhpur
rely
on
their
handicraft
skills
as
farming
in
the
desert
is
limited.
They
are
absolutely
gorgeous
and
made
from
all
natural
camel
hair,
cotton,
and
vegetable
dyes.
Shambhu,
the
weaver,
gave
us
a
great
explanation
of
the
process
and
demonstrated
how
it
is
done.
At
the
weaver’s
house,
we
were
treated
to
authentic
lunch
and
given
a
tour
of
the
wood
burning
kitchen.
We
shared
some
laughs
and
really
felt
at
home!
Finally
before
headed
home,
we
stopped
by
the
Potter’s
house
where
we
actually
could
try
our
hands
at
creating
pottery
ourselves!
Our
work
was
pretty
sad
compared
to
the
skillful
hands
of
the
pottery
maker.
We’ll
just
leave
that
to
the
professionals
in
the
future.
We
had
an
absolute
fantastic
time
on
this
safari
and
highly
recommend
it.
We
felt
at
home
on
the
trip
and
complete
comfort
with
Om
and
Shambhu.
They
welcomed
us
into
their
homes,
showed
us
the
beauty
of
the
country
and
gave
us
a
peek
into
their
crafts.
A
trip
well
worth
it!
