I'm always on the lookout for a German restaurant that my hubby would enjoy, and this place lived up to the expectations for sure! Large menu, huge portions, and a generous bread bowl to start. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the food tasted amazing! Save room for the delicious cake if you can! Couldn't have asked for more ☺️

I consider myself a connoisseur of all things German and this is bar none the best place for German food and culture it's ever been my pleasure to visit ... it's cultural center so it's a bigger building than you would expect. The food itself is outstanding and authentic and the beer is pure Deutsch. I've spent enough time in Germany and I felt right around home there

The Rathskeller serves up a delicious assortment of authentic German fare within a warm and inviting atmosphere. When we went there was a live band playing in the outdoor garden, a wedding party in one of their big halls and cozy home dining in another segment, not to mention a cozy bar vibe down the hall. Plenty of room for all sorts of gatherings! Will definitely be coming again :)

I came here for a wedding. Beautiful facility and the staff did an absolutely fantastic job. The food was tremendous as well. The stuffed mushrooms were out of this world, the German potato salad was amazing, and the Wurst was fantastic; really, everything was great.

We had a fabulous dinner for a business meeting. I honestly cannot think of anything negative about this place. My favorite dish was the Hot Wurst plate is huge, with a ton of variety. Warning - do not take a large slab of mustard, you will get an instant sinus drain. Ask me how I know. It was painfully pleasurable. Honestly I could have just ordered the Hot Wurst with a couple German beers and be done with it. But nooooo, I cannot go to a German place without partaking in some Schnitzel. We ordered family style, Jaeger Schnitzel and Schnitzel Cordon Bleu. The Jaeger was excellent, brown mushroom gravy on point. I really did not like the Cordon Bleu, just lacking flavor and to dry for my taste. Also, you have to get the hot bacon salad dressing, holy moly this is good stuff……I would have like to try the French Onion, next time. Service was outstanding A++++++. We will be back.

Great German food downtown Indy on Michigan, just off Mass Ave. All the classic German dishes, cooked just right. Great beer menu, and warm wood all around you - just as you would imagine a good German pub should have.

We checked online before going to the restaurant to see if there were tables available. Which turned out there were options for reservations at anytime. We were coming on a Thursday evening at 4:15 pm so we figured why bother making a reservation. When we arrived the restaurant was empty, as expected considering the time. The host asked if we had reservations which we didn't. He then proceeded to tell us that there were no tables available because they had reserved tables and we could sit at the bar area. That seemed skeptical but we went along. Once seated at the bar area we checked online again and there were still tables available all evening. We could have booked online and gone immediately to the host and tell him we now have a reservation. But we were already seated and didn't want to bother moving. During the approximately hour that we were there, only one table had been taken in the restaurant area. I would have given a one star for service but our server at the table did a good job. We've been here several times in the past and the services had been pretty good, until now. Not sure why the host didn't want us sitting in the restaurant area but the atmosphere and experience is just not quite the same at the bar. We were a bit disappointed with the overall experience, not what we came to this restaurant for.

We had dinner in the Rathskeller tonight, the appetizer wurst was good. Me and my friend studied in Europe country and my friend is actually from germany, so he was little picky about making decisions, but he enjoyed the appetizer and Riesling wine. Main course were pretty big portions but not that good as much as we expected. .Patricia(hope i spelled correct) was good at giving us informations about the restaurant.

Food was great. Grilled portobello mushroom was fantastic! I could have literally just ordered more of that. Beef roast was good but different. Chicken Diane was good but little dry. Service was good and atmosphere was great!

Everything you could ever want in a German establishment. The portions are large, the service is excellent, and the food is fantastic! There's a rotating selection of German imported beer, a solid selection of German wines, and the waitstaff was the right balance of attentive and engaged! I cannot say kinder things, it's certainly a hidden gem, and I look forward to returning in the future!

Amazing german restaurant!!! Mushroom allergy people: many many dishes here have mushrooms. The schnitzel is amazing. Potato pancakes are wonderful and flavorful. I had the best Riesling I’ve ever had here. The service is good and it’s in a basement. All the best restaurants are in basements lol. We didn’t have to wait bc we had a reservation at six.

We came for the live music and drinks. Our first time. They have some good German Bier on tap. Nice, casual atmosphere. The historical building is impressive. Great location to enjoy outdoor music.

Authentic building, authentic food, authentic experience!! So much positive German experience that I couldn't even fit into a single review. This is a place you have to see for yourself. We went on a weeknight and ate in the bar lounge area. The appetizers were so amazing we didn’t save much room for entrees or dessert.. but we ordered them anyways. Left happy and more than satisfied. Gute Arbeit, Rathskeller!

The Rathskeller is one of our all time favorite German restaurants! The food is always to die for and they have a large beer selection. Their French onion soup and potato pancakes are a must have. I love that the bread baskets are warm pretzels with spicy mustard 💛 this time I had the schlacht platter and it was very tasty!

Huge place with a variety of seatings inside and outside. Great selection of German beers, delicious food. I like the beer garden atmosphere the most: with live music, fresh air, shade of trees, beautiful view on a cathedral.

Very cool German themed restaurant with great service and the food was amazing. They give you a lot of food, we ended up taking some back with us to the hotel. If your in Indianapolis and in the mood for German food and an extensive beer selection, this is the place for you.

When we arrived there were people eating in the dining area, but none in the Rathskeller. It was a very unique room, quite beautiful, with ornate wood and windows from a by-gone era. The food was plentiful and quite tasty. Service was ok, however the waitstaff was not familiar with the menu choices, One server appeared to be chewing her own meal as she re-filled our glasses. Felt more like a diner than a restaurant.

We had a really great experience. The service was spectacular with multiple staff attending to us without delay. We had a variety of tasty German dishes and beer. Our kids mostly enjoyed the kids menu.

We've eaten here many times over the years to celebrate my husband's birthday. It never disappoints. The pretzel appetizer with the wasabi mustard is our favorite. I always get lemon pepper chicken and my husband gets jagerschnitzel. The black forest cherry cake is the best dessert. Tonight we called an hour in advance and were able to get a table, even with a large wedding party arriving. Our server, Jane, was top notch and we enjoyed a great meal in a wonderful atmosphere. There is plenty of street parking outside the restaurant, but be prepared to walk a little and pay a meter.

Fantastic food, great staff and beautiful atmosphere! The authentic German food was delicious. Really good drink selection especially if you enjoy a good German beer. If I am ever back in Indianapolis I will definitely come back! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Food was good. Beware of the spicy mustard they bring out with the pretzel- it'll literally take your breath away it's so strong!! Service was very slow and we waited for quite a while before getting any service. Staff wasn't overly friendly either. It was a decent experience but probably wouldn't go back.

An incredible event, the German food is just delicious. The variety of beers is great , the servers always pleasing, and the atmosphere was just perfect!, today they had a band in the biergardem and the young people were having a lot of fun( I stayed inside comfortably seated and enjoying as well!

My wife and I came to the valentines special with 6 foot blonde last Saturday. It was a fantastic experience. Waitress was top tier, the band rocked, the portions were generous. Blew my expectations out of the water. We will be back. Side note, I just finished the left overs and that’s what sparked this review. Very delicious even two days later.

This is a decent restaurant with good service and ambience. But there are very few vegetarian options. The bread was served cold. The Pasta and Salad were decent. Our server was very good and knowledgeable though.
