I wanted to see this war memorial ever since I heard of it. It was beautiful. It's located next to a canal and the memorial is surprisingly interesting learning about this ship and it's crew. Definitely check it out.😊

Great memorial, very moving. If you’re into WWII or American history it’s a must see. Best part… it’s open 24/7 and it’s free!

These pictures are actually of downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. Includes the gorgeous and beautiful Canal Walk. Include some pictures from the state fair that's held in Indianapolis right outside of Indianapolis, Indiana. The city, and area businesses, along with the entire Indianapolis, Indiana Community have come together and made a beautiful, welcoming, and unique downtown area. They have horse-drawn carriage, to peddling beer bars smiley. :-) :-)

I love military history. Seeing the monument for the USS Indianapolis was truly humbling. To learn a brief history of the ship made the journey even better. To know the USS Indianapolis was the flag ship of the 5th fleet and earned 10 Battle Stars is something I will not forget. Seeing the ships bell is at the Indiana War memorial was a treat not expected.

Well done memorial to the USS Indianapolis and her crew. Etched into stone of the memorial is a history of the ship, the sinking, and terrible experience of the survivors over several days. The memorial is outdoors next to the canal. Parking: there are a few spaces along Senate street - I did not see a parking lot for the memorial (nearby lots are reserved/gated for other businesses).

Well represented memorial with pic of ship and its history. A LONG list of names who sacrificed for our country on its last voyage when it was sunk and an accounting of this event engraved at the memorial. I visited this memorial after listening to an outstanding account of this ships last voyage on Audible entitled “Indianapolis”. What a story these men have to tell and few have heard! There’s a playground just next to memorial or walk down the man-made canal.

An emotionally moving memorial site, imo. A highly condensed summary of the main narrative inscription reads: "THE WORLD'S FIRST OPERATIONAL ATOMIC BOMB WAS DELIVERED BY THE U.S.S. INDIANAPOLIS TO THE ISLAND OF TINIAN ON 26 JULY 1945... THEN... ON 30 JULY 1945 SHE WAS HIT BY TWO TORPEDOES... OF THE 1196 ABOARD, ABOUT 900 MADE IT INTO THE WATER IN THE TWELVE MINUTES BEFORE SHE SANK... SHARK ATTACKS BEGAN WITH SUNRISE OF THE FIRST DAY AND CONTINUED UNTIL THE MEN WERE PHYSICALLY REMOVED FROM THE WATER... ALMOST FIVE DAYS LATER... THE SURVIVORS WERE ACCIDENTALLY DISCOVERED... OF THE 900 MADE IT INTO THE WATER ONLY 317 REMAINED ALIVE. AFTER ALMOST FIVE DAYS OF CONSTANT SHARK ATTACKS, STARVATION, TERRIBLE THIRST, SUFFERING FROM EXPOSURE AND THEIR WOUNDS THE MEN OF THE INDIANAPOLIS WERE AT LAST RESCUED FROM THE SEA."

Children memorial on an amazing AND CLEAN canal walk. Indy is truly the cleanest city I've ever been to and I'm looking forward to visiting again. I am from Nashville and wish like crazy they took as good of care of the city and public spaces as Indy does

It's a beautiful park right off the canal. My girlfriend and I were visiting from San Diego and found it was a wonderful place to stroll through. There is a zoo however it wasn't open when we pass by. Maybe it was a little early in the morning. But the canal and river area are both very beautiful.

Beautiful memorial with an extremely descriptive story written on the front and back of what happened to this Naval ship. Also a list of all the names on the back as well. My daughter loves seeing all the memorials and is very curious as to why the memorial is there and the history of it.

This is a beautiful but small memorial. A memory that should not be forgotten. The story is very powerful. Take the time while visiting the Canal and remember.

Beautiful monument to the crew of the USS Indianapolis. Tasteful and moving to read the story of the ship. Beyond the story in Quint's JAWS film.

Beautiful sight and display right on the edge of the canal. Very tasteful and beautiful memorial to a ship and crew that served a very important part and time of the world.
