Eight
single
professional
non
coupled
women
went
to
the
Karoo
festival
in
Cradock.
7
shared
rooms,
I
slept
alone.
The
booking
was
made
en
bloc.
While
my
room
in
a
well
kept
property
was
decorated
with
exquisite
rare
porcelain
plates,
R1500.00
for
two
nights
later,
with
no
breakfast
included
in
that
price,
I
had
a
room,
literally
5
steps
away
from
the
front
boundary
fence
with
a
double
bed,
annexed
by
opaque
glass
and
wooden
door,
without
a
bolt,
to
the
main
house
which
is
located
between
a
municipal
supply
depot
opposite
the
road
and
railway
shunting
yard
some
audible
distance
behind
the
house.
No
patio;
no
patio
or
garden
furniture
for
me.
My
7
friends
were
housed
in
an
adjacent
property
with
a
closed
boundary
between
the
two
properties.
Despite
not
being
coupled,
4
women
had
to
share
two
double
beds.
One
woman
slept
in
a
walk
in
closet.
No
windows,
no
ventilation
for
her.
No
attempt
to
house
me
closer
to
my
friends,
except
when
I
insistently
asked,
in
a
room
with
a
single
bed
without
a
reduction
in
fees.
Reason
given?
I
must
pay
a
single
supplement
for
a
room
in
a
guest
house.
I
insisted
on
being
given
access
to
the
adjacent
property
without
having
to
ask
a
friend
to
open
their
locked
manual
motor
gate
for
me
and
without
having
to
walk
on
the
pavement
at
night
alone.
Only
with
much
reluctance
was
I
shown
an
interleading
garden
door.
Inadequate
numbers
of
chairs
for
8
people
in
a
beautifully
manicured
garden.
No
patio
furniture
for
a
myriad
of
other
rooms.
The
braai
area;
five-miles-no
-smiles
and
no
lights
away.
I
had
to
simultaneously
single
handedly
field
a
manual
motor
gate,
prevent
an
ill
trained
Jack
Russell
from
running
out
and
run
the
gauntlet
of
a
broken
slab
of
drive
over
a
veritable
sloot
with
a
loose
lump
of
concrete
covering
the
sizeable
hole
in
my
very
wide
vehicle
whose
tyre
needed
to
go
over
that
lump
to
get
through
the
gate.
The
positive
side
to
the
story
is
that
the
garden
is
immaculate,
the
property
is
well
kept.
The
place
is
spotless.
