I was scammed here tonight. I got talking to a guy who was pretending to flirt with me. The barman kept bringing him drinks which I said I was okay to pay. Until he said he wanted champagne. At that point I realised what he was doing. Then I went to the bar to pay and they charged me 2000 lira. Obviously this is the business model for this place. I feel like an idiot but you live and learn I guess.

I visited this place on my first night in Istanbul (November 3, 2023) after seeing that the reviews weren’t as bad as other places - it was a mistake to trust that. I only went to grab a beer or two because I was a little tired from the trip, but it was Friday night after all, plus the day before my birthday. There were around 6 people there, including customers and employees. One of the latter approached me (at first I didn't even know he worked there), he seemed very friendly and asked me to buy him a glass of whiskey, to which I accepted. He was talking to me about having sex but I told him that wasn't what I was looking for that night. After drinking a second beer and buying him a second glass of whiskey, I decided it was time to go and asked for the bill. Between fatigue and my lack of experience with the local currency, I decided to pay the bill with a credit card (including the tip) without checking in detail or converting it to the currency I know, trusting in the apparent kindness of the owner or manager of the place. Serious mistake! Upon arriving at the hotel and checking my account statement, I noticed that what they had charged me was equivalent to about 50 US dollars and of course it didn't reflect the prices I saw on the menu.. I had no desire to return after this terrible first experience in Istanbul. I don’t recommend going to this place, especially if you go alone and if you do, I recommend that you pay close attention to the prices and what you pay on the bill. Don't trust the apparent friendliness of the staff. Many places in Istanbul are like this and this one is not the exception.

The Google address shows building #17 it’s actually located at #26 at an unmarked locale, the shop owner next door helped us to find it. Up the dark staircase, we were met at the entrance with a welcomed approach. Instantly We noticed 90% of patrons were females—puzzled at what we thought was a gay bar there was only ONE young man in the room, a server. We ordered two local beers that came quickly at a steep 410 Lira each. The music was good but the place was small and dark. We felt watched by bartenders, servers, and what seemed to be the bouncers at the door—who immediately asked repeatedly if we needed to purchase “anything special”? Suddenly as if on que, two middle aged women plopped down on our corner sofa and asked my friend and I to buy them drinks. Thinking of the previous Google reviews, we knew this was a setup to potentially engage us in procuring a “good time” with girls or boys. Our only gay bar experience in Turkey and we are glad we made the journey to get there. Found off of the busy Istaklad Street, this little unassuming gay bar had beautiful energy, and very welcoming staff, even though we spoke only English. It was great to get some rainbow of Turkey in what is quiet a conservative country. Just be aware, like all of Turkey, smoking in bars is a thing, if it wasn’t for this, it would be perfect place, be that’s Turkey for you.

Beware, this place will take advantage of you especially if you are a tourist. We went in for a few drinks and the next day there was a large balance charged. More than you would pay the UK or USA. The bad reviews are very accurate and we should have listened to them.
