It is a very very beautiful cafe which serves I think the best breakfast so far we tried in Istanbul. It is a cozy one, it’s not a touristy place which is great as you can enjoy your time.

Velvet Cafe offers incredible food. This is hands down my favourite place to eat in all of Fatih and Istanbul. Reserve in advance so you can sit outside. All the menus are created handmade and there is a beautiful family feel to the place. The food is made with love and care and the staff are always smiling and delightful. I had the turkish breakfast and it was insane. The honey was the best I had ever tasted, and as well as the usual food served (cheese, olives etc), there was also personal touches such as the onion bread and dough ball. These were so delicious. I shall be back once I am in Turkey again!!

I FELL IN LOVE♥️ This place is very lovely their delicate details tell a lot. You have to book a table before you go there, we went for breakfast, I loved how their menu is; very creative. The cafe’s interior is beautiful lots of trees and antique tables and chairs such a great vibes. Food is simple and limited but, well prepared and delicious. Service here is outstanding all the staff are so friendly, considerate and professional, also they spoke great English. I totally recommend this place, truly worth the experience.

I will remember this place as a beautiful memory from Istanbul. It was a snowy day and we were looking for a coffee place to go inside and warm up a bit and we found this place, which is the definition of coziness. I enjoyed very much their products, everything was tasty and warm and good. The atmosphere was very peaceful and we had a great time there.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting this family owned business, and I must say, it was an absolute delight. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the warm and inviting scent of freshly baked bread, spices, and espresso. The menu was filled with a variety of traditional Turkish breakfast dishes, all made with the freshest ingredients and served in generous portions. The star of the show was the pişi, a classic Turkish frıed bread that was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was served with a variety of spreads and sweet and savory toppings, including garlic and herb butter, , orange butter, honey, kaymak, and an amazing peanut butter sweeter with dates. Another standout dish was the menemen, a traditional Turkish egg dish made with tomatoes, peppers, and spices. The eggs were perfectly cooked and blended well with the rich and tangy tomato sauce. The breakfast also included a range of cheeses, olives, and fresh vegetables, which were beautifully presented and added a refreshing element to the meal. The homemade jams and marmalades were also a highlight, with a wide variety of flavors ranging from tahini with molasses to a carrot and orange marmalade that was to die for. To accompany our meal, we were served a traditional Turkish tea, which was the perfect complement to the rich and hearty breakfast. Overall, I would highly recommend the Velvet Cafe to anyone looking for a unique and satisfying dining experience. The food was delicious, the coffee was fantastic, the atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was above and beyond with a most friendly and attentive staff. If you're a fan of breakfast foods (or just good food in general), or just looking to try something new, this restaurant is definitely worth a visit.

It was my first time trying Turkish Breakfast so wasn't sure what to expect and I was excited to try Velvet Cafe given all the positive reviews. Unfortunately it didnt live up to our expectations and other reviews. The food came out very slow and they forgot our eggs which we only realised at the very end, once everything else was finished. The eggs were very salty and so couldn't finish it. The quality of the food and taste of the different spreads was okay, not heaps of food just lots of bread. Not worth 400 lira per person in my opinion. The fried bread was tasty though. However, the wait staff were really lovely and friendly. The atmosphere was quite nice. Maybe the other food options might be better.

It is my first day in Istanbul. I happened to see the Velvet Café on Google maps near my Airbnb. It looked intriguing and I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed. I am a solo traveler and they seated me in the lovely garden. The traditional Turkish breakfast was suggested and I took the suggestion. If ever there was a time for mindfulness when eating, it was here. The food was a kaleidoscope of color and an explosion of flavor. I savored every bite. The wait staff explained each dish as it was set on my table and they checked in with me to make sure everything was okay even with a full house of customers. Truly an experience in eating. I highly recommend it if you are in the Balat area.

The best Turkish breakfast we had in Istanbul! This place is so lovely with a perfect ambiance. They have a beautiful wall of vintage teacups you can have your tea in. The service was top notch and many of the breakfast spreads (jams, butters, etc) were made in-house, they even spent time explaining the Turkish names of the food to me. The quality of everything was really good. It’s definitely worth a visit and a trip to Balat!

Only had drinks and dessert. The orange cake was decent (a bit on the oily side) and the halva tasty. Service is young and not very attentive, and the decor is your hipster overly kitsch vibe. It is what you expect from a hipster cafe. Their breakfasts looked legit though.

Good traditional Turkey breakfast place. Group of six on a short trip to Istanbul had breakfast hear multiple times. Place can get busy on the weekends, so if you have a group you might want to make reservations.

This might be the ONLY cafe in Balat that comes from the original cafe culture and not from insta copy paste types one sees around. Its a delightful little find. The garden is the overall winner, its a gem! Great interior but could have housed some more comfy seating arrangement. Menu is a little dull, but they do it well. Service is great and not in your face, which is a relief from so-very-eager-to-please-kind-sir-madam type of suffacation one experiences all around. Cake selection could be more tempting! It works for me as I am trying to curb my sugar intake. This is the kind of place, one comes to breathe, chill, read, perhaps make new friends. Come and see it for yourselves

Nice historic restaurant in the middle of the old Balat Neighborhood. It’s 10 minutes drive from Sultanahmet. All the furniture are antique and renovated. The dishes are remind me of grandmamas. Velvet Cafe is a hidden gem in Istanbul, a cozy cafe with a warm atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. The friendly service adds a personal touch, and the antique cups add a unique charm to the experience. A perfect spot to unwind with a cup of tea and enjoy the inviting ambiance.
