We ended up at this restaurant based on the reviews and the closeness to our hotel. Our experience was a lot different, first of all the staff at this restaurant was a bit rude. They have some tables setup in front of the serving/ dirty plate lift and trays. We requested to be moved to a different table with a few empty tables but the staff denied our request. Next the food quantity also seemed low, but I am not completely sure if there is a difference in food quantity being served in Istanbul. The order that came out seemed to be cooked from stale ingredients (chole were sour) and was really oily with no real taste. On complaining they offered to replace the dish, but the replacement that came out was tasteless as well. I would not recommend this place to anyone. In fact the worst Indian food experience for me in Turkey so far. (This was my 5th Indian meal so far)

Lentil soup was very very tasty but the rest of the order didn't meet expectation, the Parathas were deep fried ,oily and lacked taste.Kadai paneer gravy had a burnt smell emanating from it. Overall food or service didn't meet the bar given the price is on the expensive end of the spectrum, we spent 1300 tl on the food.

We were very hungry as it was night time and already other shops were closing so we only found this restaurant with acceptable reviews only to find out those reviews were literal fake. We entered and there was a lot of people. We thought that means food is good but when we took our seat they took our order but never noted it down which means our order also got mixed up. When we got our order we did not even enjoy it it tasted very bad and they charged us a lot. There was also too much heat over there as well. I do not recommend coming here at all

This restaurant has really good Indian food in Istanbul, it’s so flavorful and pleasing. The place is very warm and quiet, the staff is super friendly and good. We were 4 and we ordered 5 dishes, which were all flavorful and we wiped up our dishes 😁. The service is really good but our food took time to come, however, I really recommend it especially for vegans in Istanbul. Loved it and good luck fir them.

Best Indian restaurant in Istanbul. Wonderful vibe, just the right amount of spice and friendly service. So if your heritage lies with the Indian subcontinent and you’re palate is missing home, give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

Reading the reviews thought this place would be good. Service was very slow, food came after 40 min wait and it wasn’t even busy. Staff were just miserable ! Place had a weird smell and so many flies put me off my food. We ordered a few starters, the lamb chops were really chewy and felt like it was microwaved and the malai tikka had so much salt couldn’t eat it. The biryani’s were ok but not that tasty. Everything was very dry and wasn’t fresh at all.

Great location busy area easy to get to,4 stories currently with 3 levels of dining space and a roof terrace coming soon. Very friendly staff and lively atmosphere, authentic Indian/Pakistani cusine, fresh and tasty with very quick service. Mixed Grill , Karahi Gosht, Butter Chicken, Chicken Karahi and Lamb biryani was excellent very tasty! I had sweet lassi to drink was superb! Made from fresh yoghurt just like back in Pakistan! A must visit restaurant in Istanbul if you’re wanting some Pakistani/Indian food which is just like home! Highly recommend to all

After spending 20+ days in turkiye, we were craving for some desi food so we googled and found this place. The restaurant claims to serve both Pakistani and Indian food which is not true at all it may have Indian taste but not Pakistani at all. So not recommended if you are searching for Pakistani food. I don't know the reason but the lady attending the guests were forcing people to wait at the entrance for like 10 to 15 minutes saying no table is free although on 2nd and 3rd floor they were almost empty, at few rables on 2nd floor guest were eating separately ( not family, no hall booking etc). We had to repeat our order 3 times which was served wrong again and again then they served gravy only let us wait for chapatis for good 15 minutes. Later as compensation they served 1 gravy extra which was of no use to us ofcrs. Prices were quite high as compared to the other restaurants.

My parents decided to celebrate my birthday at this restaurant. The food was excellent and ambience was nice. We were the only persons at the restaurant at 1:45 p.m. The wait for food was not too long. Very disappointed because the server told us we didn't pay correct amount of 1232 lira when both my parents counted the money before paying him. So guys please BE CAREFUL and CHECK the money IN THE PRESENCE of the waiter. First time this is happening to me and this is my 5th time in Turkiye.

Simple but extraordinarily flavourful! Good prices Good service Good tips When you knew I am vegan they told to change some dishes because they contained a kind of animal product, and that was extremely amazing! I am in love with the place and the music in the background makes you want to dance and eat! Recommend… Ps. The mint sauce was removed once they remembered I am vegan and apologised for it as well!!! I’m fond of the whole-package experience I have just had!

Chicken masala does not even have an average taste and it contains only three small pieces of chicken. The Butter nan bread was great but they charge it you separately. According to the food they serve, it’s a bit overpriced place. Would not recommend.

This was some of the best Indian food I've had outside of India! I'm not sure what some of the reviews are talking about, the food was delicious! We had four different dishes, all of them really good and perfectly spicy. It might seem a bit pricey, but the portions are quite big, we even had some leftovers. The naan was good, although a bit thinner than regular Indian naan. Mango lassi was incredible! The service was great, the waiters came to check on us multiple times to see if we needed anything. If we're ever back in Istanbul, we're definitely eating here again!

We came to Türkiye for our honeymoon. Our resort food was so bland and tasteless we were craving food with FLAVOR. We found this wonderful restaurant to satisfy our cravings SO DELICIOUS!! They even had my favorite appetizer papad (spicy too). Thank you for a wonderful experience, there is yummy food here!

Quick service, delicious taste of food, and reasonable prices. There are two stories, so even on a busy night many can be accommodated. If you like lassis, the mango lassi is to die for. Easily one of the best we have had anywhere in the world, so smooth and delicious. Only downside for us was the naan, a little thinner and more dry than our liking. If you’re craving Indian food, this is definitely a worthwhile spot.

We visited here for dinner looking for Indian food in Istanbul. The food is okay. Not good and not bad. The quantity served is very less in proportionate to charge. It is a bit on the pricier side (think overall Indian cuisines tend to be expensive). The service was not too great too. We did see some angry customers complaining about their food or wrong orders. Would not recommend this restaurant if you are going out with friends or special occasions. But okay if it’s for a single person by himself. Quality of food is okay.

👎🤮 They asked us to move to a smaller table though they didn’t have any reservations and other tables were empty. They give you such a tiny portions and rip you off for that. Literally a portion for a cat! this is ridiculous(!!!) You leave hungry, the food is not great anyways. Choose another Indian restaurant, there’s much better out there and not that greedy with much better customer service

Got 3 Gajjar ka halwa from them! 30Tl/ serving! Serving was quite small for 30 lira! And the taste was bad too! Did not even smell of gajjar but of bread! So the smell, taste, and even the sight of it is not close to Gajjar ka halwa and they charge 30Tl for this small portion! Neither quality, nor quantity! Advise against eating deserts at this place. I do not know about main dishes but I would not be willing to try it anymore!

Just been to this cute little restaurant in the heart of Fatih. The place is lovely and very welcoming. A good selection of Asian food and a few non Asian items for the kids (nuggets and chips). We had the famous biryani which was very tasty and a fab portion size (ideal for two people). Highly recommend the chicken soup and pani puri ended the evening with fab kheer and chai!! Overall, a wonderful experience, delicious food and lovely service by the waitress Ferwa. We will surely return!

I saw this restaurant whilst staying in the area and was eager to try it out. Asked genuinely if they had everything on the menu and the server (turkish chap) haughtily confirms. I then order Pav Bhaji. Being a Bombay boy, Pav Bhaji is dear to my heart. What comes along is a turdy-looking puree, served with burger buns dabbed with oil. Doesn't taste good either with raw masala smell coming from the "bhaji." The sweet lassi was okayish, nothing to talk about. Lastly, customer service needs to be improved. The apathy of the local staff towards customers is not good.

Visited this restaurent today and ordered a chicken biryani and hot chicken soup. Biryani was good and my son enjoyed it. The hot chicken soup was so hot that we couldn’t even drink it. I tried removing a lot of the chilly seeds (check image) to try and drink it but couldn’t. Then I called the waiter and told him. He took it to the chef and returned saying this is how the soup is supposed to be and nothing can be done. This was really disappointing. I’m a South Indian and I love spicy food. This soup was inedible (check photo). And even if it was supposed to be that way, basic service courtesy is that you at least acknowledge what customer is saying. And I clearly showed my soup saying I tried having it but couldn’t. I had found this Indian restaurant after a lot of search and this experience made me leave the place disappointed.

In these Covid times, it's not easy to know what's open or not but Bombay Masala is indeed open for business and gave us just what we needed after a day of sightseeing and shopping through hot and muggy Istanbul. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was quite tasty, exactly what we needed. Highly recommend to Istanbulites and visitors alike.

The food here was absolutely delicious and the portions are generous. And the service is SO much better than any service I've received back in London, where I live. I ordered their tandoori roti and chicken with daal, and rounded off with their Indian masala tea. I can say that my tummy is satisfied and I'm full! I plan to visit here again before leaving Istanbul.

1/5 bad customer service and 2/5 for not having authentic bombay special biryani taste. My friend recommended me to try this restaurant as he was fed up having Turkish kebabs everyday. Ordered 50 lira bombay special chicken biryani and got boneless hard chicken rice with cashews fried onion. Biryani authentic taste was missing, although the taste of rice and presentation was satisfactory. I ordered spicy but nowhere it tasted like spicy. I'm giving 1 star just because it is not having authentic biryani taste, otherwise if i rated that rice without considering it biryani, then its 4/5. customer service 1 star due to lack of interest in getting feedback from customer. They didn't ask me how did i like their food, and when a person came to take out empty plates, he just said "utha lon" ,like seriously? are you kidding me? this restaurant is opened in main sultanahmet area and customer should be treated equally. please educate your staff as well.

Hidden in the streets near the Grand Bazaar, Bombay Masala was definitely a treat to stumble upon after a long day of shopping. If you're looking for something spicer than a doner, this is your place. Hospitable staff and nice hot food. We came during covid so can't really review service. But we got our food fairly fast. Enjoyable take away experience with good food.

Need to improve service. Real bad service as well as big attitude. No onion and pickele were served. Had to wait for naan which was at 3.30 pm ... not busy even then. Male toilet - there is no toilet seat on commode. Toilets roll paper does not work and toilet is not maintened. You don't feel that foreign feel ..like clean and hygin.

Fairly palatable, is how I would describe the food at Bombay Masala. Not exquisite but not half bad either. We went in on a rainy afternoon and the restaurant wasn’t operational at 12:30 pm (could be abecause of the religious holiday). We went an hour later and ordered the below - aloo chana chat - a first copy of the original chat- it missed the vital ,date/ tamarind chutney (sauce). When we asked the owner/ manager for it, they offered a pomegranate sauce as an alternate. To our surprise it worked - Lamb Biryani- the flavours were right, though the lamb to rice ratio was abysmal. For most part we ended up having morsels of biryani rice without any meat. - Chicken Karahi- I struggle to find a good adjective to describe this one. Not a dish I would re order. Overall Experience- we noticed couple of table around us waiting for a long time to get their order however we received a prompt but a cold (in treatment)service. The staff missed to extend the city’s vibe of being friendly and welcoming. Nevertheless we don’t regret giving it a try.

We tried their Biryani. I would rate it as am 8/10. Balanced spices. Great quantity. However, its incredibly overpriced. Cola alone is 40TL which is ridiculous for the kind of setting and ambiance the place offers. Food is nice but too expensive!!!

The curries here are the best, and better than any restaurant I've tried in London. After a chat we learned that they were a small family business who have brought over their authentic and original recipes from Pakistan. The food was impeccable. Service very friendly. Particularly Nimrah, who was so sweet and made us feel very welcome. I have visited twice already and plan on going again.

Unfortunately being the first review I write it is a negative one Paying 1800 Turkish lira for a bad service (spraying windows close to the table, I didn't eat a whole plate because I didn't like it and no one asked me anything about the reason or anything else) So the interest is coming in and paying, nothing else Quality inside restaurant but inexperienced staff. I leave a photo here with 5 fries also😂 a tip for you it s better not to put it at all because some other people might say it s disrespectful to put 3-5 fries in a plate

Enjoyed Veg Thali. It had Dal Makhani, Naan, Jeera Rice, Paneer Butter Masala, Papad, and Salad. Just enough quantity for 1 person. Food was tasty and spicy enough to find Indian taste buds satisfiable. If you are in the old town area, then this is a good option to explore. I went in for 2nd time, and this one completely changed my opinion about the food taste and quality and quantity. I ordered Bhindi Masala, Paneer Kadhai, and Garlic Naans. Omg, I was super happy to enjoy perfectly cooked to light crispy texture of Bhindi with Onions and Tomatos perfectly added spicy level.. Paneer was super soft and bell peppers, and Onions were so fresh and well cooked, still having light, crispy texture to enjoy it. I didn't expect this authentic taste like Mumbai at all. So, hats off to chef it to make it to perfection. Quantity was also more than sufficient for an individual dish. Last time, I had a limited Thali, so that could be a reason for lesser quantity in it. But if you are in Istanbul and craving for good Indian and Spicy food. Don't miss Bombay Masala.

Food was good but bit expensive compared than all other restaurants around sultan ahmet. The amount of food is also small. You can see a sample price in menu that shared here.

First time in this restaurant and I can say the food was delicious. Went there with family. I'm very fussy because I'm such a good cook myself. There was a 20 minute wait but that's acceptable when you know the wait will be worth while.

Called Bombay Masala Fatih and asked if they would deliver to me in Kadikoy. Sadeem took a ferry ride to come deliver the food to me. I couldn’t believe it. The best restaurant the best service!!! Sadeem delivered a slice of home away from home THANK YOU BOMBAY MASALA! YOU ARE THE BEST!

Absolutely top notch Indian food in a heart of Istanbul. One of the best Lamb Rogan Josh I have ever tried. Chicken butter was also very good. Service was great and I would recommend this place for all Indian food lovers. Place is located in alcohol free area and don’t serve any alcohol, not even bear. Only soft drinks, tea, coffee and water available. Otherwise great place to visit and eat. We paid 160 liras for the dinner for 2 people including two main courses, two nans, rice and a starter.

After eating burgers for a week I found this restaurant and had very nice achari chicken and lamb achari, brilliant food and service, would definitely recommend, price is reasonable too, £20 for two curries and 7 large naan breads

Worth the price as the food is quality and make it desi style if you ask. Clean and staff friendly. Visited twice

  • 4/5 mahbuba a. 3 years ago on Google
Food was good and tasty. close to the tramway station which is a plus. However the food was quite pricey. Especially if you are a student and would like to eat desi food regularly, this would be hard to afford. A small water was apparently 5 liras, exorbitant if you ask me. But the student menu is affordable.

We originally visited in September 2020 and were very disappointed . I described the location as brilliant, but unfortunately were very disappointed. I suggested that they look into couple of suggestions, and fortunately my friends and family visited Bombay Masala and I am delighted to say I have deleted my review of Sept 2020 and definitely looking forward to visiting them in May 2021 , travel permitting. Well done ! Bombay Masala , for providing expected service .

Food: 5 / Location: 4 / Service: 5 A symphony of spices! I had a chicken palak with Naan bread and a Mango Lassie. The Palak was amazing and perfectly balanced of many spices. Medium spicy was the right choice for my western taste. The Mango Lassie was fresh and very delicious. The Restaurant is close to the Gran Bazar in a Food Area. On two floors there are a lot tables and everything is very clean, even the bathroom. Top service and very friendly team. 👌

This was the second time at Bombay Masala restaurant in Istanbul after being recommended by Wasim in Gaziantep. I am an Indian food lover and I have tried many Indian restaurants and this is in my top three and certainly number one in Turkey! The Lamb Karai I had today was amazing, the best I have tasted ever, and the sesame Nan bread, Mango Lassi and Biriyani rice were all wonderful. My wife had a chicken with rice and she also loved it. We will come back as often as I can although it’s a bit far from where I live. (The pic is from the previous visit)

Very tasty curry and fresh naan. We ordered the palak paneer and butter chicken, both curry's can be tailored to your spice level, but be warned that mild is still spicy and spicy is very spicy! The onion seed and garlic naan's were fluffy and fresh. We saw many people order the Biryani which was a huge portion and looked great (although didn't appear to come with any curry sauce). Service was friendly and attentive.

Great news for our Desi food lovers… Want Desi food in turkey then Bombay Masala is here to help. They have authentic yummy, full of spices food.. We had Vegetarian Biryani, Garlic and Cheese Naan {if you are vegetarian and doesn’t eat eggs then do inform them, they will give you Naan without eggs}. It was little pricey but it was worth the food.

I just wanted to try some Indian food in Istanbul. I have checked the reviews online and thought I will give it a try. To be honest the food was not tasty at all. Myself an Asian from this region and I have been working in Indian restaurants for more than 13 years. The Sheek Kebab was really chewy. The quality of minced meat was not good. Too much fat in there and it was already pre grilled. Food came 5-6 minutes after the order was taken. The vegetable Samosas taste was ok but nothing special. Just stuffed with potatoes and a bit of spices. The garlic Naan was freshly baked and was the only thing with a decent taste. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for some nice Indian food in Istanbul. Better stick to all the Turkish food you have here.

We had dinner here twice, Restaurant staff is kind & good, Tried there dal makhani, paneer butter masala and naan were thicker we didn't like it. Taste was somewhat between good & average. Quantity is good enough for 2. Prices are on little higher side.
