Authentic Jamaican 🇯🇲 food!!! We shared orders of curry goat, jerked chicken, rice & peas, and beef pies! Everything tasted fabulous!

Order oxtails they were stiff and hard compared to being tender like I have had in the past. Large plate over 20$ the owner is nice nasty I told her my oxtails were hard and I have came to this place for years. She asked if I wanted scraps or soup of oxtail in front of other customers like I was suppose to be embarrassed . No ma’am I don’t want hard oxtails that taste like grizzles. She gave me 3 bones on a large plate. No customer service. Won’t me returning ever again. Oh did I mention she stated they lose money when the meat is tender falling off. Customers scream and fuss they they see bones no meat. Which is being extra. But I know oxtails they can be tender and still barley hanging on the bone I make them this way all the time. Like the other reviewer said she acting like ppl dogs and want slope. Never again maybe for a smoothie but I’m over the energy of being nice nasty

Certainly a must go-to place. Friendly ambience, excellent service and tasty menu items. Every single thing was fresh, flavorsome, and really yummy. The service was also exceptional and everybody was charming. This was my first time here and I will most definitely be returning. I'm really satisfied with Island Tropics. Its the atmosphere that wins me over here. Everything we bought was terrific and the menu itself was to die for. And workers were really pleasant and courteous. Island Tropics = Top quality.

Love this place and girls behind counter are super sweet! I love the Rice & Peas & Cabbage! My husband is a huge fan on the Oxtail! Portions are generous and priced fair!

Really tasty food. It's a must try. I had the curry goat, I loved it because the curcumin is so healthy for you and it was seasoned pretty good. My boyfriend loved his jerk chicken. We also tried a smoothie. It was delicious. This place gets busy. The portions are good. Food is hot like it was just cooked. We stopped by on a whim from out of town, we have no regrets.

Last night, I purchased a medium plate of jerk chicken, peas with rice, and mac n cheese as my sides. I also ordered a side of cabbage. While eating my plate once I arrived home, I was eating my macaroni and it smelled sour so I couldn't eat it anymore. Also, the cabbage I had was not all the way done. I called the restaurant at 1p today, spoke to the husband of the restaurant to let him know about my issue, he put his wife Sydney on the line, she got defensive because I told her that it was sour. She then told me that they use all kinds of cheese or ingredients, never had a complaint, but it could be the kind of cheese they use. She made an excuse instead of saying sorry, let me know they're busy, asked it I wanted cabbage, I sad no but she also didn't allow me to continue to express my concerns. All I wanted was to possibly replace it but since her attitude was not professional, I would never go there again or refer anyone to them. Never had a problem until then but they must remember that we are the consumers. Customer service is very important. Before I left last night, she was cursing the employees out about leaving unclean chicken in the sink as to where people may get sick which was so nasty because those could have got upset and did anything to our food due to how they were treated or talked to. Maybe I should reach out to BBB about food handling.

When you walk in, it is clean and open format. Very nice staff, fresh hot food, dinning available inside. Food was amazing ! We got oxtail, rice and peas, cabbage and fried plantains . That place should be packed everyday! Great food !

This is my top favorite place to eat at. The staff is always friendly when I go inside, I’ve found some great drinks inside, but the food and the overall feeling of the business is what keeps me as a customer. The flavors are a prize within itself. My last visit here was June/2 and I ordered the brown stew Snapper🤩🤩🤩 best decision.

Everything in this place is good. I get an all natural fruit smoothie made with real fruit. For you smoothie lovers try this place just once. You will be glad you did, my last smoothie was Pineapple/ Kiwi. Walk in and tell them Peaches said try a smoothie. Once you sip it take a picture of your expression I'm sure you will come back again.

The food was great, my husband had the curry chicken and I had the veggie plate!! I read the reviews and decided to give it a try and I was not disappointed.

A couple years ago, this spot was light year's ahead of its competition in food quality, quantity, taste & price. At that time the food was fresh & robust, colorful & bursting with authentic flavor. Unfortunately today, the food was bland, overcooked to the point both the veggies & the meat was all the same color... Green peppers, onions, carrots etc were all the same shade of brown & very limp. The cabbage was watery, limp & lacking color & integrity, as well. The rice & peas tasted similar to 'Knorr/Lipton PastaSides', & the mac & cheese was dry & not well mixed... A thick hardened layer of cheese on top & only unseasoned noodles underneath. The only redeeming part of the meal were the well seasoned stew beef chunks which still melts in your mouth like I remembered. 2 stars instead of only 1 because I'm rooting for this place to succeed. This was my favorite Caribbean spot. I'm hoping they were just having a really off day, but regardless, after a 30 minute drive & $24 spent for the one plate, I still expect the food to be edible & cooked on the same day it's purchased, at least.

The food is delicious! The gravy on the oxtails was perfect! I also got the jerk chicken with bbq sauce and Mac and cheese… the flavors of the food were bomb! This lil hole in the wall is LIT 🔥. I’m going back to try the curry shrimp next! This is a large oxtails and a small chicken meal!

So happy we decided to not just pass this place again. The hubs and I love Jamaican food and this was pretty good. We started basic on the first visit to get an idea of the food. We both got the med Jerk chicken plate w/ 2 sides. I got the cabbage and rice and peas. I also got a side of the oxtail gravy to pour over my rice. The chicken was grilled perfectly with a nice char and the jerk sauce was delicious. The rice and peas with the oxtail gravy is my new favorite side. The cabbage was good, but nothing spectacular on that. The hubs got the Mac and cheese instead of cabbage and that was the star side for us. There was a good noodle to cheese ratio and it paired well with the jerk seasoning. Looking forward to getting the oxtails next time if the gravy was any indication of what’s to come! Also, their prices are more than reasonable, a little over $20, for our two full meals and side of oxtail gravy, and the team members were all friendly and helpful.

This is my favorite Jamaican restaurant in Jacksonville. Don't waste your time going anywhere else. The food always tastes good and they give you plenty for a great price. Got the express stew chicken for only $6. I've been going here for years and I've never been disappointed and they have THE BEST oxtails!

Outstanding Jamaican food. The best i've had in JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA. VERY CLEAN, friendly, respectful environment. The food is cooked just right. The way the food is prepared and served will take you to the island of jamaica itself. Yeh Mon. What are you waiting for? Not too expensive...I was surprised at the pricing of the menu. This is my favorite spot. I order fresh from the kitchen and they’re jerk shrimp spicy just don’t miss. Baby girl wanted jerk chicken. Her plate alone was enough to easily feed 3 adults. Service and conversations are always pleasant and homey. The reggae jams make you want to dance as you wait for your food. Ladies if ur looking for an island boy (lol not like those rappers) this is a pretty good spot to find them 😂 Thank me later.

This food makes me so happy every time I go and I've been going here for my oxtail, curry goat, and jerk chicken for 12 years (and beef patties!!) The food is always delicious and their portions are heavy.

Take out order for lunch. Wrong order received. Order brown chicken and was given curry chicken. The curry chicken was dry and bland in taste. Unfortunate because I’ve heard great things about this restaurant.

The BEST food I've had in Jacksonville!! It was exactly what I had the taste for, and it did not disappoint. The oxtail was falling off the bone, and the mac and cheese was almost as good as my sister's (and hers is to die for...like no kidding). Rice and peas were perfect. The amount of food for the price...yeah...I'm DEFINITELY going back!

By far better than Caribbean 🌅 down the street. They have improved greatly. I will return whenever I get hungry for island flavor again. May 2023 post. The only downside is parking not so good.

Oxtail was amazing. I drove out of state to come to this place and it was worth it. Staff was very friend6and welcoming. Will def come back when I come back to Florida again. Highly recommend.

Was low key disappointed. I ordered oxtails with rice and peas and cabbage. Cabbage was crunchy and flavorless. Oxtails werent terrible but could’ve been a lot better.Very flavorless for island food. Staff was nice but I expected better after waiting over 30mins. I would not recommend or return.

This is some of the best food I’ve ever eaten, hands down. I wanted something homey and comforting and THIS IS IT. We had the jerk chicken and the stewed chicken and honestly both were amazing. We had the cabbage with stewed gravy, rice and beans, and mac and cheese. I would eat here everyday because it seriously is incredible. Everyone was super nice and our food was ready quickly. They pile the food on so you will get plenty to eat.

The food at Island tropics is fantastic. The first order I had was the goat curry and it is awesome. Recommended by a friend. I thought I would never eat goat in my life. It is similar to beef tenderloin or pot roast. What a great place and great food. I highly recommend. I will definitely be back.
