This is a great experience! A very charismatic tour guide named So. He was so adorable I could take him home. Very knowledgeable also and kept us very entertained. Our sword teach was also great. Could spot each person's "weakness" and how to help them cut better instantly. The whole thing took about 3 hours for us. We had bought tickets ahead of time on trip advisor. Tickets were sent to us via text and were easy to access.

It was a pretty good way to spend an hour or so but the price is far too high in my opinion. The museum is VERY small (basically just one large room split up into 4 sections) and they let WAY TOO MANY people into our group. For the price we paid I would have expected maximum 20 people per group. Our group had around 50 people in it (rainy day so very busy) and it was such a squeeze to get everyone into the small space. When the guide was explaining things there were people who couldn't even fit in to the room to see what he was talking about. It was a cool novelty to try on the costumes and throw the ninja stars but again due to the amount of people in the group it was pretty rushed.

This small museum showcases samurai armors, weapons, ninja outfits and several artifacts. The basic ticket comes with free tours in EN, training like a ninja (throwing shurikens) and trying samurai costumes. For the latter activity, one have to change the venue (short walking distance). We had a lovely and very amusing guide, and the experience was truly pleasant. If you plan to visit the museum, it is advisable to purchase the tickets online, especially when the weather is rainy and people tend to find indoor attractions. When we attempted to visit the museum for the first time, all tickets were sold out and we were send away. The tickets purchased online are also cheaper.

Excellent spot and a must stop if you’re visiting Kyoto. The staff have English speakers and are incredibly knowledgeable about everything...I ask a lot of questions. Thoroughly enjoyed both the historical knowledge, the fun activities, and the great conversation.

Absolutely loved doing this with my family last week. Tess was full of energy and worked week with my children (4&6 year olds) and their constant questions. They loved dressing as ninjas and samurai and of course, learning about how to use ninja weapons. Definitely a fun Kyoto memory.

Small and a bit gimmicky feeling, but if you look past that you will actually learn a great deal about Samurai history and culture. More impressively, there are over a dozen full suits of Samurai armor on display along with several katanas. The entire tour takes around 30 minutes and is a bit pricy all things considering. None the less, I am happy I dropped by for a bit.

We came as a family on holiday from Australia with our 8 year old son and 6 year old daughter. Our son was not keen to come to another “museum” but absolutely loved it. Our daughter was a bit sugared up but the 2 hosts dealt with her well and all 4 of us had a great time. Highly recommend for young and old

The experience was below my expectations. It was not really a musuem but more like exhibition with posters. The space was really small and nothing much. Didnt even get to really read through the details. Began with a briefing session by a lady and then we wore the samurai attire and then threw the ninja blades. Not recommending this for future visitors. Better to go explore other parts of Kyoto

This museum was so fun! We got to throw ninja stars, and we got to dress up! We had no wait, and this place was filled with mannequins, and clothes. I really recommend this ninja musuem.🥷 I really recommend this museum. One of the best museums I ever visited! Our tour guide was also very funny and realistic. If you post a google review, you can even get a free ninja star!🥷⭐️

The museum was a great last minute addition to our itinerary in Kyoto! My family and I visited last July 2 and we decided to stop by and visit the museum. Our experience was amazing. Our guide, Taku, is knowledgeable about the history of the samurai and ninja, he speaks very good and understandable English, he had a great sense of humor and made sure everyone was involved in the experience. Highly recommend it even if you have an itinerary planned. A visit to Kyoto is not complete without a visit to this museum.

Visiting the Samurai and Ninja Museum is a lot of fun! I was impressed by my host, Tess-san, as she was energetic and radiated excitement through the entire experience. I got to throw shuriken and play with other Ninja weapons, including a photoshoot of my best swordsmanship with a Ninjato. We then did a tour of the museum focusing on old to modern Katana and Tashi swords. We saw several other weapons including Naginata and Tanegashima (Japanese matchlock arquebus). We got to see several historical suits of armor and received a history tour of the samurai, focusing on the Sengoku period. I ended the tour doing a photoshoot wearing real Samurai armor, wielding several weapons. I highly recommend this tour for anyone with a passion for Samurai and Ninja!

Very informative and excellent experience. Very reasonably priced in my estimation. The added activities were an awesome edition....even won my souvenir Ninja throwing star in a friendly competition. Our guide, Tsuyu, was awesome. She was very knowledgeable, pleasant, humorous, helpful and did not hesitate to assist guests with requests....like photo taking, which I was one. Would highly recommend this fun, informative tour. Coming from the United States, I found it a great way to discover a piece of Japan!

My family and I had a wonderful experience at the Samurai and Ninja experience! We got one on one training with a Samurai master and she also taught us the history of Samurai and Ninjas. I would recommend this to any English speaking families as they have English speaking guides. It was also well worth the price. If you have small kids under 2 this may not be for them. Our youngest was all over the place which are it hard for one parent to remain focused. However, the guide was very patient and accommodating to our youngest,

Excellent tour for the family, especially if you have kids. Quick history lesson about samurais & ninjas and how Tom Cruise is not the last samurai. You get to throw the Shuriken and also take photos with Samurai armour. Amazing tour provided by Nobu and SO.

Good experience not only for history fans. There is a lot of information provided about Samurai's lifestyle but also many interesting facts I've never heard. In the ticket price, you will receive short ninja experience - a lot of fun with competition - as well as a samurai outfit rental for photo shoots for free. Additional options available. Booking in advance recommended.

We visited this museum as it had good reviews. We found it to be very expensive and very small. There are basically a few samurai suits of armour and some weapons. A talk about the history of the Samurai and Ninjas was interesting before we went upstairs to throw ninja stars which was good fun. It also said that you could dress in costumes but it turns out you have to go to another building to do that, so we didn't bother. The whole thing took less than an hour and cost about £18 each.

The museum was interesting, and pretty visual. As someone who likes the history of the places I visit, I can assure that this tour is nice! The best part is the activities, in which you will throw ninja stars and also it makes the experience really worth! Would recommend this place! The instructor was really awesome and funny!!

Tour guide Saku and Kai were very informative and humour about explaining the samurai history and culture! English is well spoken too. Loving the shuriken throwing and samurai costume session! They don’t pressure you so you can take time to try it out (except shuriken throwing has limited time and throwing frequency).

This was a lot of fun and really interesting. I learnt more today about Japan's history and the Samurai and ninjas than I had understood before. The Samurai sword experience was worth it and our teacher was both entertaining and a great instructor.

Great experience however a bit overpriced. The historic facts was great and the tour guide was incredible but as stated before, I think it 2as abbot overpriced. There were some key pieces of information about the ninja history as well as having few historical pieces which makes it a museum but it is far from being a detailed museum. We got to throw some ninja stars as part of the ninja experience and we had the opportunity to wear the traditional ninja attire at a different location but we decided to skip that part due to the size of the group and having limited equipment, it made the waiting time a bit excessive.

$22– Samurai photoshoot+ tour+ ninja star throwing Tour was done in English and is extremely informative. They give you time to explore the museum after the tour is done before proceeding to the ninja star throwing. You do have to travel short distances to get in between the museum, star throwing and the photoshoot but it’s a 1-2 minute traveling time. The tour guide Kai made the experience better with their great sense of humor. It seems like the overall establishment is fluent in English and is very foreigner friendly. 10/10 rating- a bit pricy for me but the experience is enjoyable and you get to support a museum

Before going to the museum, I had zero to little knowledge about samurais and ninjas. But, after this tour, I am well informed of them. The tour guide was interactive and fun. It didn’t feel like a very long tour even though it was an hour. We didn’t reserve a tour yet, when we arrived, we had slots to choose from and we even had an English guided tour. Special shout out to Kai, our tour guide, who was very informative and entertained all of our questions. I will highly recommend it to anyone who’s interested to learn more about samurais and ninjas.

One of the best and most fun experience we’ve had in Japan. Way way exceeded our expectations. The added sword cutting experience was way harder than it looks. Highly recommended. Our guide Sato was amazing!!!

Cost was over $ 20 usd each and worth the visit if it was about half that price. I/we are still glad we went to learn a bit of the history of Japan and the area but we are talking 3 simply rooms with basic displays and then a ninja throwing room with plastic fake stars thrown at a styrofoam wall. Either add high tech interactive displays and high end historical and immersive elements to make it worth the price or cut it down to $ 10 usd which is in line with what is offered.

My son had an absolute blast on the Ninja Training and Samurai Tour! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Yuma was an incredible sensei, combining ninja skills with tons of fun. Her energy was as sharp as a katana, and we couldn't help but get caught up in the excitement of this shinobi adventure. My son followed her like a devoted apprentice, fully immersing himself in this thrilling dojo. On the flip side, Saku delivered an engaging and informative Samurai tour that was incredibly interactive. We were amazed to discover that we had transformed into full-fledged samurai by the end of it! If you're looking for an unforgettable and action-packed day, this tour is an absolute must for all you aspiring ninjas and samurai out there! 🥷⚔️🤩

The museum is a little small, but it is wonderful. Teppei did an amazing job explaining the history of the samurai. Definetly will come back if I'm in Kyoto again.

    - Son loved the sword cutting portion (Extra fee ~$80.00) - Shuriken throwing was fun - Museum was very touristy and the guides seemed to think the history of Feudal Japan was amusing. I understand the need to keep it light for younger guests, but there is a difference between skipping the gory details and talking jokingly about Feudal Japan/the history of a nation - One guide, perhaps new, started us out but seemed to lose her train of thought and just walked off leaving the tour to the other guide - If there were a way to skip the kitschy museum and just do the sword cutting, I would. The museum has some awesome artifacts, but the only way to view them is part of a rushed "guided" tour so you cannot really enjoy the artifacts. I would rather they just let us wander for a few minutes after the tour but they rush you out the door. - I would rate the museum a 3 star but my son really loved the sword cutting and that earned the 4th star

As a first time tourist to Japan this may have been my favourite experience of my time in Kyoto. While not having a reservation they were able to get our group in on the next time slot. Definitely something to do even to pique your interest in samurais, ninjas and the imperial system of Japan.

Very fun experiences! My group came here for the tatami mat cutting experience, which came with the samurai museum tour and ninja experience. The instructor for the tatami cutting experience, Takuto, was very clear and helpful and took the whole experience seriously. On the other end of the scale, the tour guide for the museum and ninja experience, So, did a great job of being entertaining and funny! They both had good English as well. Super good tourist experience for grown up weebs. I recommend making a reservation online beforehand.

Can't go to Kyoto (or even Japan) without participating in this hands on, friendly, educational experience. Not really a museum! I don't really have time to observe the details of the swords and helmets in there. However, it is fun. They lead you from stage to stage. And in each stage, they tell you about the history of samurai and ninja in a fun way. Not only children, adults will have fun too. There are many questions to be asked and you will never get the right answers unless you are really familiar with the history. Most importantly, there is ninja experience! And after finishing these all, you can put on samurai costume and take photos.

  • 5/5 Aidan U. 9 months ago on Google
There was a little bit of a wait to enter. Upon entering, you wait for your tour guide in a museum with some interesting pictures and facts about Ninja and Samurai. Our tour consisted of three rooms: the first contained samurai armor and a chart of the cultural hierarchy, the second contained a bunch of different weapons, and the third contained art, armor, and the different family crests. The guide provided information about where the samurai are in the hierarchy and explained the social dynamic between the emperor and the shogun. She also discussed the different weapons that samurai used, highlighting their usage of guns. She also explained the eventual reform that ended the era of the samurai. There was also a portion where we played a game to guess which armor was the most expensive and which weapons were the oldest. Afterwards, we learned how to throw ninja stars as well as use a blow gun. We even got to compete against our fellow tour members for a chance to win a souvenir ninja star.

A very fun, interactive, but informative peek into the history and culture of samurai and ninja. Sota was our tour guide and he made it really fun for kids there, but still taught everyone a lot and ensured everyone could see. He asked us questions and was super enthusiastic when we knew, but was able to tell us what we didn't know in depth also. I wouldn't describe it as a museum as such — there are some informative plaques, but it's primarily conveyed through your guide. It's a great time and worth the hour, if you enjoy more interactive education.

  • 5/5 Sarah W. 9 months ago on Google
This is essentially a guided tour through the museum but is quicker and more interactive than reading all the information for yourself. It was very interesting and informative. I would have liked a little more time there so I'd advise arriving 15-20 mins early so you have more time to read the information boards in the first room before the tour starts. It's a small museum but definitely worth the basic admission money. Gives you a taster of Samurai and Ninja life without spending a lot more money and many more hours on other experiences that we considered. You get to practice being a real Ninja by throwing the Ninja Stars (Shuriken) at a target wall, which then turns into a little competition. Dressing up in replica gear was fun and our photos turned out really well. A great thing to do in Kyoto and if done in the morning, you'll have the rest of the day to explore the city. I'd definitely recommend going. Visited Thursday 18th May 2023.

Fun and informative! Tour guides provided a basic overview of Samurai history and had several examples of armor on display. The museum collections are spread out a bit. Have to go up one floor to the ninja-star throwing experience, and you have to walk through the market a few blocks for the samurai dress-up photo op, but it was worth it if you are interested in Samurai culture.

The show was great, and there was a lot of information being told at the beginning. It seemed like it was a bit overbooked, and we were waiting on the team before us in order to progress. But it was interesting stories and information, as well as the activities were very fun. The experience was a bit ruined by a few too young kids who were noisy during the explanation. The show is every 30 mins, and you can be lucky like me and just rock up and get in, or you can book in advance and save 10%.

This experience was such a treat! The museum tour with Kai was so fun and informative; I learned so much and the collection is amazing. The ninja training at the end was great. My siblings and I also booked the sword cutting class and SHINYA went above and beyond with his expertise. He was so patient and explained everything no matter how many times we needed it. The staff is so personable and easy to talk to. Enjoyed my time here immensely. We even wanted to book another day in Kyoto because we didn’t want to leave!

If you want to be a samurai for the day, this is the place to be. Also a very cool tour and you get to take as many pictures as you want - at the end you even get to dress up as a Samurai . Perfect way to spend and hour and change in Kyoto. The best part is a small Ninja Star throwing contest... may the best ninja win.

Had a great time! Informative and fun too. The museum may want to consider a group maximum as we had over 20 people in our group and it was hard to see everything from the back.

Great museum. The tour is quite short but contains all the most important information about samurai and ninja. The guide tells in a funny way, easy to understand. I think that throwing shurikens and dressing up as a samurai is a very good idea to diversify your stay in Japan.

Amazing! It was amazing!!! First we got a small mini game where we had to find answers to get a secret code. Then we had an history tour which was very fun, I think his name was Pepe. Was really funny, made jokes and answered our questions. Then we threw some surikans and had a competition. And at the end we had a 200m walk to dress like a Samuri :) We had fun, it was cool and even our parents loved it!

In this experience, you get to learn about the history of Japanese samurai, see authentic samurai armour, an impressive sword collection, practice shuriken throwing, and wear samurai costume with swords. This is a guided group tour in English. The upside is that it is in English, and the guide speaks clearly and also incorporates humor, which was fun. The only downside for me was the large group we were in, which didn't leave much time to look around, and the whole experience felt a bit rushed. Other than that, it was much more informative than any other museum in the area, so I still very much recommend it!

September 2023 - booked this on a whim when my family had a 'free day' and what a great little find! I found it informative, fun and interactive (ninja star throwing!). Special shout out to Saya who was a fantastic guide on the tour! Our kids loved it - especially putting the samurai outfit on. I would recommend this for families with young children 100%!

Such a fun family experience. Star throwing is fun and the dress up part is also cool. They don’t rush you and you can take as many as you like. Guides are cool and informative. We bought tickets on the spot and had to wait an hour for the next session which isn’t too bad since you can walk around the market.

Exciting Ninja Museum Experience! We had an unforgettable time at the Ninja Museum! From donning samurai armor to wielding a samurai sword and trying our hand at throwing shurikens, every moment was filled with fun and excitement. It's a truly unique experience that allowed us to immerse ourselves in the charm of traditional Japanese culture. The staff was welcoming and friendly, and the facilities were top-notch. If you're looking for a distinctive and enjoyable activity, I highly recommend the Ninja Museum!
