When you come from the railway station to visit Nara, this may be the first interesting stop on your trip. The place is very nice during cherry blossoms and I consider it the entrance to the classic Nara. Why? You will see the first deer crossing your path ... ;-)

A very colorful, bright red temple at the top of the stairs! But before climbing up the stairs, we also visited the "pond" right across the street to view the "Longevity Turtle" at the 猿尺池. Another pretty photo opp.

Many great historical pagodas A bit hot on sunny day as not many trees around the main entrance However, walking street before the temple is a MUST for foods, sweet and souvenir

It was at the top of the stairs when we came up from Sarusawa Pond. It is a shrine with bells so when we went around New Years there was a line for people to ring the bell. It is just down the street from Five-Tiered pagoda and Kofukuji.
